So true-this is a topic that so many people shy away from, but it’s such an important conversation to have. 🖤 Grateful we could dive into it openly on this episode. Let’s keep normalizing these deeper discussions-it’s where the real magic happens! ✨
My favorite guest in months on this show. GREAT CHOICE Soul Boom team! Absolutely thrilling conversation and as a Christian I thoroughly enjoyed hearing this different perspective.
Love this! Went and listened to his audiobook immediately. It’s so hard to discuss this topic and debate it rationally. His view as “idk what this is but it happened” without getting too mystical is great!
I feel like what Sebastian described as disassociation and the fear and everything that came with it was a process of ego death. My take on him is that if we could show each other “feelings” objectively one could show him the “feeling” that is god to them, and he would also acknowledge he has that “feeling” but he doesn’t personally equate it with god. We need different kinds of brains all over the place describing their experiences, amazing how we all are interfacing on the same plane but with such vastly different words and interpretations!
I loved so much this interview. There are several great intimate moments of understanding between you two that make me feel I am taking part of an authentic hearted conversation. Thank you. Also, I can't help thinking that his refractory attitude towars God is a reaction against dogmatism, not God Itself
I needed this talk. I really relate to your guests view and way of asking questions, so thank you! And thank you for pushing back on the word spiritual for clarification because im spiritual in the way you seem to find common ground on (as a word to describe the realm of unmaterial things that exist and we dont know enough about)
So glad this talk resonated with you! 🙏 We love exploring these big questions and finding common ground, especially when it comes to the "unmaterial" things we’re all trying to understand. Thank you for sharing!
I don’t really think or talk about it a lot, but a few years ago I had a near death experience. It was like I woke up in the infinite black void that Sebastian is describing.
Thank you for sharing that! It’s incredible how personal experiences like that resonate with what Sebastian described. 🌌 NDEs are such profound and mysterious moments that often leave us with so much to reflect on. 🙏✨
"Remoulade" is a noun that refers to a pungent, cold sauce or dressing that's similar to mayonnaise and typically includes savory herbs and condiments... The Remulate Group (UK) offers financial advice and programs to protect and grow wealth. I like Rainn's potential definition of the word much better.
Great interview. Meaningful. I read Junger's excellent book, In My Time of Dying a few months ago, and got a lot out of it (thanks Rainn, for recommending it)
the primordial abyss has a strong relationship to ego. You sense a sense of self the same way. When that sense of self has nothing to stand on, it feels like extending out into infinity, and the father is there as the original man, and the mother is there as the guiding light to future progeny becoming the mother and father. This is an experience separate from faith, though religion knows of it all the same, and clearly considers it sacred.
Also jungian individuation happens primarily between 23 to 55, 50 is a prime age for this experience. The abyss is a realm of the dead because within that "infinite ego" and its associated "union with the godhead" you process with a projection of that person to you. Whether or not that connects to anything supernatural is up for debate and research. But that's the way jung's work outlined the connections to a cultural history of concepts like Sheol.
Wow, what a profound take-thank you for sharing! It’s amazing how these experiences go beyond individual faiths yet are honored as sacred across so many traditions
20 minutes in and its interesting to see someone so unhappy about having to deal with an NDE. He seems uncomfortable with anything spiritual, especially the terms or that he even had to deal with it :D I hope he cheers up later in the interview.
Right?? Everyone’s journey with this kind of topic is so unique. It’s part of what makes the conversation so compelling. Hope you enjoy how it unfolds! 🌟
Rainn, how about a guest from the Institute of Noetic Sciences, i.e. Dean Radin? If you're familiar with the 2004 docu-movie, "What the Bleep Do We Know"...really interesting, lots of fun...he was one of the featured scientists. Btw, one of the co-founders of IONS was astronaut, Edgar Mitchell.
Agree with rainn on the pet grief issue 100%. Yes grieve your pets, but it shouldn't put your life on hold for weeks or months on end. We anthropomorphize them too much IMHO.
I remember his nde can't forget it he's the only one that comes out still an atheists but it didn't last that long so understood and love that he sticks to science and sort of agree about agnostics
Imagine being that ER doctor, working on a patient that's bleeding out like it's viking thanksgiving, and they go "excuse me, you need to step on it, i'm going." My theory on the dead showing up: it's not so much about them being dead, but people upon whose personalities one's own personality is formed. Usually one's parents, as they affect one the most in one's formative years. In Westworld, they said "they're just emulating," but we're all just emulating. I'm not me, I'm a medley of those I emulate. When you're dying, the mind is falling apart, but the brain is said to fire on afterburner generating a level of clarity normally unachievable. It detects imminent death, and overclocks/cooks itself to make you supersmart for a tiny bit of time to maybe come up with an idea how to wake up and not die. With this clarity, while your own mind is falling away, you get to see the underlying scaffolding of the personalities that you're made of. Hmm. Maybe there still is something to this clarity and dead component personalities specifically... Let's say you had this formative person in your life, and they've been dead for a while. As they are dead, and time goes on, you start losing detail in your memories of them. They get buried deeper and deeper. By this death clarity, everything that's buried, gets pulled back up and lit up like a christmas tree. Your trusty patternmatcher does a quick "which of these is not like others" query, and focuses on the dead personality because they're formative to your own personality (a pillar, if you will - so never actually forgotten), and that "hey, you don't belong here." And they can speak, because you have a working model of their personality hardwired into your own. I dream of my dead grandpa and grandma(s) all the time, for decades now. First it was my great grandma, then my one grandma that died, now it's the last grandma to die that's been recast into the role. And it's always "hey, weren't you dead?" And as the dream goes on, I begin to remember that they didn't actually die, we're just living in different cities and have become estranged over the years. Always an uncomfortable minute after waking to sort out the mess, and get it straight who's actually dead and who's not. You're never alone, for you are legion. I wonder if there's a correlation between people with NDE-s and people who lack the (or rather have a handicapped) visual mind's eye... If you're not used to seeing shit every single time you close your eyes, suddenly getting ultraclear inside your own mind with the near-death overclock, must be shocking. While "casually mind-sighted" folk just experience that "it was a bit trippier than a regular shut-eye."
it's nice to actually be talking about this topic instead of avoiding it as many people do
100% agree!

I just love these conversations so much, thank you 🥹
we're so glad to have you in the soul boom fam, Alexis!!
Absolutely loved this! For so many reasons... We need more intelligent 'near death' conversations like this! Thank you!
Glad it resonated with you! 🌟✨
I am loving how much life comes through the podcast episodes. I look forward to them every week! ❤
this means so much to us! especially how much life came through an episode about death! 😅🦄
I love Sebastian. Real legend. Thank you for having him on. I’m going to pretend the universe made this happen just for me.
It was an amazing conversation. There's so much to think about after that. Thanks for the inspirational time.
Thank you! These are the discussions that stick with us, and we’re so glad it gave you something to think about. Stay inspired! ✨

Great conversation. As an ”agnostic” it was really interesting to hear your views. Greetings from Finland

Oh wow, how can someone go through this and still be an atheist? But it was great to hear his experience. A lot of great awareness in this interview.
Beautiful conversation, you two got along nicely even where viewpoints did slightly deviate. Nice to see and I got a lot out of it.
Very great podcast! Been interested in this since my own NDE and always looking for atheist/agnostic accounts.
thank you! NDEs are such fascinating experiences, and hearing different perspectives, especially atheist/agnostic ones, adds so much depth. 🙏✨
i like this pod, should have more views

I believe Death is the most effective motivational speaker.
Rain Wilson has a podcast?🤯
There are also many Baha'i physicists. (As well as more from other religions)
I love rain
