    I'm in the middle of my 6-month retirement trip around the world (currently in Thailand), and after watching your videos, I've put Antalya on my list of possibilities! I had no idea it was so beautiful and full of history. And besides history, food is my #2 enjoyment so that great, cheap food appeals to me.

    • @OurFreedomYears
      @OurFreedomYears  2 года назад +2

      And you might be pleasantly surprised to know that the food in Turkey is often cheaper than the food in Thailand! Of course, Turkey has so much to offer in the way history so I think you'll find it to be a very rewarding destination. 😊

    Great video! The bazaar by our apartment (Fridays and Sundays) is great for fresh produce, cheese, olives, dried fruit, and more - its become our go-to for weekly marketing. For comparison's sake, we are staying in a 3-bedroom apartment in a residential area. Fully equipped kitchen, big corner sunroom overlooking the city, plus two other smaller terraces (!), though the decorating leaves a lot to be desired (in other words, its mostly non-existent, except for two quite large framed puzzles, one depicting half-nude mermaid-sirens creeping over the side of a boat manned by some rather alarmed sailors!). Most utilities included, though we're splitting the electric with our sweet landlords since that's sadly unpredictable given the runaway inflation plaguing Turkiye. Our rent is $850/month. Caveat: this is not an Airbnb property; we found it by making local connections our first week here. Also, our apartment isnt in the charming Old Town or coastal areas, but tucked back in the city with an expansive view of Eastern Bloc-style concrete apartment buildings (and a small park with fountains - its not all bleak). The coast is about a 20 minute walk.
    Thanks for all the great content! Love your vlog!

    • @OurFreedomYears
      @OurFreedomYears  2 года назад

      That's impressive - both the price and the amenities! You did really well with your apartment. It really pays to take the time to investigate the local market and try to find a deal outside of Airbnb. It's a little more challenging for us when we're juggling two poodles but definitely worth thinking about if we're spending a few months in a location.

      @@OurFreedomYears Sooooo happy to hear you are well! I have asked this question before while binge-watching ALL your videos but then could not find the place where you might have answered that question...... When you rent a car do you get ALL the available insurance, just some, how do you handle that issue? Thanks and keep enjoying Turkey! Your posts have made us totally put that country on our soon to arrive 'freedom years' list!!!

    • @OurFreedomYears
      @OurFreedomYears  2 года назад

      @@ingridfranze2010 For short 1-2 day rentals we always pay for full insurance to have that peace of mind. When we have a rental for a few weeks or a month, we are willing to accept a collision damage waiver less then $1000. This means if something happens, we'd have to pay that amount as a deductible. It is a risk to take but full insurance can add up very quickly for longer rentals. We mainly use a site called Qeeq.com to find our rentals. Hope that helps!

    Lovely place- worth it! What were the differences for you two between Fethiye and Antalya? Which one would you go back to? Was there a preference?

    • @OurFreedomYears
      @OurFreedomYears  2 года назад +1

      Great question! Fethiye has the more enjoyable waterfront. The city has done an excellent job creating a lengthy, attractive pedestrian area. However Antalya is also very beautiful and is a much larger city, so generally has more to offer by way of restaurants, stores and attractions. Antalya is likely the one we would return to although I would never say no to a trip to Fethiye 😂

    $2000 for the airbnb is outrageous! Compared to the ludicrous cheapness of everything else. And the entrance vestibule on the ground floor is nothing to write home about (which is a pity as Mother looked forward to those letters). It actually turned what could have been a super budget month into a regular month. Everything else was fab though. Just that price tag. It's now on the visit list though,so thanks one again. And now it's time for me to wander into town for some churros and choc.

    • @OurFreedomYears
      @OurFreedomYears  2 года назад

      We couldn't agree more - and we even tried to negotiate! 😂 If we were staying in Turkey longer than a month, we would definitely look around for a place at a local price. But do put Antalya on your list...it's a beautiful city with a great lifestyle on offer.

    • @TK-qv4xh
      @TK-qv4xh 2 года назад

      Well 2000 dollars a month AirBnb may sound like a lot for the other cost of living in Turkey. But the rent prices have gone up significantly along the Turkish coast after the pandemic and Ukraine war with the rich Russians Ukrainians etc moving to Turkey. for a while and 800-2000 dollars a month rent (on a yearly contract, sometimes all paid upfront) is common in Konyaalti and Lara areas in Antalya, Bodrum, Alacati and other places and some parts of Istanbul. So 2000 is not that high considering the current long term rentals. Also prices in supermarkets and local markets are no longer that cheap by any standard.
