For me Mystic Quest was my introduction to JRPG, i was like 6 or 8 yo when played this game and i love it, of course couldn't defeat a boss and quit it. This game has a special place in my heart for love the JRPG genre, and for that is a tradition to beat at least 1 time every year. ❤
To say Monster Hunter is 90% gameplay and 10% isent true att all! its less then 0,5% story :), i like boss fights so its my drug of coice but full understandebul that ppl dont like it, every game is not for everyone and thats ok. /thumbs up
I played The last Remnant on Steam. I really liked the Battle System. It was fun to flank and ambush Enemies, manage Army formations to try new stuff and break enemy morale. I really hope for a Remake and Sequel.
Same, the only thing i didn't liked was the level scaling which was terrible. I still don't get why devs periodically push level scaling in their games when it literally have zero positives and no one like it.
Battle system looks random only on first glance. On second and third - its actually amazingly deep(its pretty much whole point of the system to lower number of random commands). I still think this system is actually most interesting and satisfying of all tactical games i played(and i played a lot). Main negative of the game for me(outside of horrendous plot and characters) are technical problems. Game poorly scales on modern PCs with a lot of issues.
I like Ryza, maybe for the lack of the deadline system, even if people say it's hard to miss, my life is full of deadlines, I don't want them on my games
May I recommend the Dusk series for Atelier, Atelier Escha and Logy will start strong, but I think the best is still Atelier Ayesha for the emotional storyline.
Love/hate with atelier games, i like some of them that have time deadlines like mana khemia and the dusk games since they share the same fun battle system (starting from escha and logy), but hate others like the Arland games which dead ass almost made me drop the Atelier as a whole with how bullshit they are. Interest only got revived due to the dusk games, also the Mysterious and Ryza games which removes the deadlines, hence more cozy collection/exploration.
Threads of Fate is basically Squaresoft taking XenoGears's annoying engine and making it into an action RPG lol. I agree with all the games we played in common except for Vagrant story I freaking love that game.
To be honest I do enjoy Engage. I played through it 3 times so far and had a good time. And yeah honestly I do like the characters. The game is also easier for me to return to then Three Houses although thats becuse of a bit of a silly reason on my end. But part of it is also how long the monestary stuff takes.
I kinda agree on phantom brave, because the gameplay is very complicated with annoying mechanic with time limited allies that can be O.B. if not carefull, althought Morona is the only one that can be on the field forever she more of a healer than anything so yeah if she die might as well get a game over unless you kill all the enermies in time, but this game have a super good story, there where is recomanded
Episode III PSO is strange and very complicated. XD It's one of those games that's loveable when you understand it, but getting a grip on it takes too long, and in modern terms it has the problem of being too slow-moving. Best-case scenario for learning is probably playing the third 2-player mission multiple times while figuring out how to work with what you've got. I wish it had come with a much more robust 2-player mode, because that could be really fun. Cards have a ton of interesting strategic effects to work around, and are surprisingly balanced such that medium-cost cards usually perform well against the low-cost ones, high-cost cards do well against medium-cost cards, and yet low-cost cards are often useful at dealing with high-cost cards, using special effects and hit-and-run tactics. Likewise, some cards seem fairly weak, but can become extremely effective with the right uses, like Long Arm. Incredible soundtrack too. There's a reason its final boss theme reappears in PSO2. :D
You're a bit too late to be "the one guy who defends Mystic Quest" anyway.... Stop Skeletons From Fighting, back when he was called The Happy Video Gme Nerd, already defended that game, and I seem to recall he was not alone.
I'll never understand how they went from Three Houses to Engage. Like...did they just fire their entire writing team and get a bunch of edgy zoomers instead or something?
The reason was that since Engage was an anniversary game they wanted to make a story similar to older FE games with having a simple plot of “slaying the dragon”
I kind of disagree with Fire Emblem Engage. Sure things about Engage are questionable, i admit, but there is so much good about it. In my opinion, Engage is not the worst Fire Emblem game in the Series and all this hate by JRPG fans comes from not giving this game a chance but that's just my opinion.
I actually really enjoyed Phantasy Star Online Episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution. I think it took me a while to fully understand the rules, but it has some cool mechanics for a card game. The Gamecube had a few cool games that used cards for their gameplay, actually. I love Fire Emblem, but I've never been that fussed about their stories, and Emblem Engage has some of the best gameplay and visuals in the whole series. Three Houses was fun for me as well, but the maps didn't seem very interesting. Also, I hardly ever replay games nowadays because of my huge backlog, especially if they have a lot of busy work like the monastary, and so I feel like I didn't really get to experience the full game for Three Houses. I personally think it's very sad to see Engage's user score on Metacritic be so low because of spiteful people that are disappointed it wasn't more like Three Houses, when a lot of the series isn't really that much like Three Houses either. I worry that this will still happen to future Fire Emblem games, even if they have decent stories, because a lot of the newer fans seem to really want that specific Three Houses formula again.
Video didn't really start good for me since mystic quest was the very first rpgs i ever played at my grandmother's house, just before FF4, lufia 1, and super mario rpg. It's simplicity made it good as a kid's first rpg and i un-ironically do enjoy going back to it from time to time. The story flow is whatever but the concepts it had has me looking out for it in other games since i do want to see them in order games, i got overly excited when shadows of adam had the jump mechanic and a similar battle flow with enemies slowly falling apart the weaker they get. It's basically my comfort game. Phantom brave i neither like or dislike. It was different from Disgaea but unlike disgaea where you can setup and end stages fast, Phantom Brave ended up being a bit too slow since you have to manually assign spirits to objects that may or may not be out of immediate reach, and i got too uninterested in anything post game after immediately finishing the final story fight so that was the end of me playing it. Monster Hunter for me is just very samey, you are in the first town, do missions in the wilderness nearby, create armor with those monster parts, resume in the next town, repeat for around 10-15 locations. Tried one of the games but nah. As for games that i myself want to like but for one reason or another makes me quit playing: - Mystery dungeon games of any kind, because nothing says fk you quite like a random enemy sniping you from off screen instantly killing you and you losing everything you went in with as the game tells you to try again... with none of the items you had... that you farmed up... that you failed WITH them so be damned if you try without them (or spend a few hours farming up the items again just to maybe lose it all again due to something out of your control), they just don't feel fun like other roguelike games especially with Shiren or Izuna that makes damn well sure that you don't cheese deaths. - And any Experience inc dungeon crawler or anyone who tries to replicate them. Perma-death on level based units with steep experience requirements to level, instant death mechanics to go along with that perma death, and the thing i hate the most being progressive mechanics like kidnapping and team swapping. You know that healer you need to stay alive? yoink, not anymore, mine now, with limited amounts of one-time use items you can find to stop it. I always like to start these, but as the mechanics slowly seep in it just gets more and more painful to play.
I don't consider the monster hunter series to be rpg's, not really. Rather I consider it and it's clones to be a genre all their own. I love Monster Hunter, can't wait for wilds and I would kill for a new God Eater. Freedom Wars is one of my favorite games too. I bounced hard off the earlier MH games, namely because playing on the 3ds was awful. World/Iceborne is an absolute masterpiece. That being said, your opinion is yours and I respect that. Edit: Just finished your MH segment after posting this... you should really give MH World a try, its a completely different experience compared to the old games. The sense of adventure and exploration is greater than any other game I've ever played, bar none, and I'm 40 years old. Every inch of the world is so alive its awe inspiring. I should also add that I played through the entire base game and iceborne SOLO. I tried playing with my nephew a few times and found that multiplayer severely lessens the experience. The sense of wonder, danger and even fear disappears entirely. tldr: Play MH: World, it is entirely unlike any monster hunter that came before it.
Fire Emblem is my favorite series of all time and I agree with you about the story in Engage. But I truly think that the gameplay is easily one of the best in the series.
Phantom brave is difficult to like, yeah the limited time is a hindrance, so much i just used the weak item with infinite duration on Maron the only permanent charact and just grinded for status and healing steps, what kills it for me is the multiple paths but NO CICLE SYSTEM! i wont be grinding everytime i want to see a different route! arc of the lad end of darkness is truly bellow average, the big point is even the option to summon characters is wasted, as they work more like a skin and ONE special skill, even ARC that has all magic elements only can use total healing, the most useless spell, i dont remember much, but i think i found a thing that made summon disabled but made MC 10x stronger and just chessed the entire game. I quitted Rogue Galaxy on the tutorial, i died in 5 seconds in the first battle, it was already a troublesome game with with DVD of double layer, being that hard from the get go, nope.
14:30 when somebody who has dedicated years of their life playing these games drops a jrpg for cringe and poorly written characters , a trademark of jrpgs , then it must have been especially bad
It's a very strange answer, but any RPG published by "Square Enix". I've beaten no single of them yet. - "Final Fantasy's VI and VII gameplay didn't appeal me. Random encounters also bored me. - Old "Dragon Quest" games felt just like bland storywise and also random encounters existed. Idk if XI fixed it. - "Star Ocean: The Divine Force" made me quit to the first boss. - "Octopath Traveler" series had very frustrating bosses which made me quit. - Same goes for "Bravely Default". CrossCode is the game which I can also share the same experience. Too many puzzles for me which distracted me from enjoying the actual great story. Lea is one of my absolute favourite RPG protagonists.
You are what I call a “New Gen-Player”. You Never Grew Up with any of these games, so any of the Classic Turn-Based RPGs that existed don’t appeal to you lot due to what Other games you may have played first. I’m not here to insult you, just telling it like it is. You’re molded by different stimulai then me since I can play this Those games you mention with ease. As for the Majority of Games on this Video that were Listed! Yeah, I played some of these, and they don’t click with me either.
@@danielramsey6141 Considering the content and audience of this channel, I can't deny it. I'm younger generation who started with RPGs about ten years ago, and most of them were new at this time.
the problem of vagrant story is the complex system, until you understand it, the game is very punitive, it also make the MC too weak from the start for a legendary Risk breaker, it is very easy to shoot yourself in the foot, if wasnt enough to start with weapon affinity zero or negative, the game soon gives you combo to do more damage, but affinity is gained by complete attack, so by combo every enemy to death, you dont build up affinity, making them take less damage, forcing to combo more and the cicle goes on, so until you realize you should just normal attack common enemies and only combo bosses, you are many hours in and suffering a lot. I guess in the last revision before shipping, they saw how unbalanced it was, so there is a lot of pity chests near the end of game.
Yep! That Game is a Menu Scroller Game! You are Constantly Kitting your Gear for Bosses and Monster you have to Fight! Especially IF THEY are Tough! What I like about Vagrant Story Though is how unsettling and Horror-Based it’s storytelling and Game elements are! You kinda have to think about it that way in order to Properly be at an advantage against the Majority of the Antagonists you fight against. But I’m just glad I had an Old Tips and Tricks guide book to help me on what I was to expect from each Enemy and boss.
I loved the character design in The last remnant. That sajd it's definitely one for me too. With the exception of FF8, any game that punishes the player for leveling up ALWAYS ruins the vibe. What are the devs smoking!?
I can usually play any JRPG from start to finish but I couldn’t do it with Bravely Default 2. The pace is too slow and you need to have the RIGHT combination of jobs for every SINGLE boss. And if you discover you have the wrong combination of jobs mid-battle, you can’t change them without closing the game because you can’t return to the main menu from the pause screen. The story was uninspired, it’s the 30 something years old classic but overly used story of saving the crystals with the usual heroics without adding anything different. I liked the visual style, especially the towns, but it was simply not enough. I tried liking it for 49 hours but couldn’t. Maybe if I was a die-hard Final Fantasy fan I could have tolerated it better but alas, no.
I disagree with alot of your complaints of the last remnant. You are a general that is not on the battlefield telling the different unions what their tactic is as a union. It isnt meant to be micromanage every soldiers on the battlefield as they dont attack individually, but as a union. The battle system is great, you are looking and expecting something else from the battle system and not letting yourself see what it is for what it is. I agree with the leveling, it was convoluted having 2 leveling system at once that requires the opposite battle state to level, and can result in you being to high a BattleRank to increase your individual stats, resulting in you being too weak and the inability to get stronger.
I understand why people dont like Monster Hunter. It takes hours to really get into a flow with it and is kind of overwhelming, but i got into it as a kid and had nothing but time. Rise really fixes a lot of those issues and its what I recommend first timers or people who didnt like the others. 4 Ultimate was probably my favorite though and i really did not enjoy World at all.
I remember crosscode was great and the concept was fine but yes the puzzles are what lost me. Had such great mechanics but was tooo heavy with puzzles. It felt like such a chore doing them.
Finally someone that agrees with me on CrossCode. That game has way too much puzzles. If they just cut down on them a little bit then I’d probably have bothered to finish it. 😂
Man, I thought I was alone in this. The puzzles are the exact reason I stopped playing, too. I was expecting an action-RPG, not a puzzle game with an action-RPG on the side.
Agree 110%. I rarely quit on games, but I dropped Crosscode after about 12 hours. If there were a balance of action, story, and puzzles I would have liked it, but it's 85% puzzles with a bare sprinkling of action and story.
I tried play using a vídeo walkthrough but even with that the huge amount of puzzle make me quit. One dungeon has two hours of just puzzles, and this was the guy from the video who already know what to do...
What sucks for me is I loved the art, the combat was incredible... I would have preferred more combat to all those puzzles. I like puzzles, I'm a Zelda fan but this was a whole new level in terms of the amount and difficulty of puzzles. I'd call the game a puzzle game/RPG hybrid more than a standard action RPG.
Meanwhile being in the minority of genuinely having fun with solving the puzzles as I felt like Albert Einstein the moment I figured the solution out on my own.
I LOVE Metal Max Xeno Reborn on the Switch. However, the original did not need to be remade. It should have been ported to the Switch and save Reborn for a new game.
The points at the end are something a lot of people don't get. It's 100% possible for a game to be good but you personally don't enjoy it. A game could be incredible, 100/100, but it could also simply not be for some people. Elden Ring is a great example of this. Great game for those that like that kind of game, but it's not for everyone.
Too true. If you don't like a game, it's still possible to respect it, still possible to admire things about it, and at bare minimum, understand that there's a reason other people like it. Not liking a game doesn't require justification every time. It's not like you'll be a bad person if you don't prove the game is bad somehow. Idk why people often act as if this is the case. I'm still hoping to get properly into ER someday. Just isn't a good time for me now. Everything's such a mess. :/ But I'm hoping I might take another dive into it after a couple other action title later this year that I REALLY want to try. A game I'd probably put on a list like this though is Astral Chain, despite how much I like a lot of things about it and was sure I'd be into it. I wasn't expecting to dislike the mission structure/content organization of all things, and I can't outright fault it for that. I just don't like it.
The thing is he said its 90% gameplay 10% story that make no sense how can you be more into story than gameplay this is video games not movies books@@theoaremevano3227
@@rjproduction486 It was worth it to me to push through. Puzzels do not let up though. There is a puzzel timing slider in the options I recomment everyone try. Far from a masterpiece to me.
I have been mostly enjoying Fire Emblem Engage, myself. Not a *bad* game, but definitely not for everyone, though. It just seems like a culmination of all of the quirkiness that past games had, and it's kind of like one of those animes or other media that just have *no* Fourth Wall, in the sense of the quirkiness being almost *everywhere* with no break from it. Some people might like it, and I like some of the characters, myself, or at least find them interesting, but the problem with them may be that they cranked the quirkiness up to 11 in a shift that seems too sudden from having come from Three Houses. As for Monster Hunter, though, I very much agree. I've always wanted to get into the series because I love Mizutsune, but the quest-driven nature, having to grind to get anywhere, and seemingly being one of those games where the multiplayer is very much where you'll ever actually enjoy it, it's very difficult to get into. My problem, alongside not having friends to play with, is being way too busy to even be able to play with friends in the first place. I also tried to get into Palworld. I'm not sure how good Palworld is to solo, though, even with settings set up to decrease grinding as much as possible.
I could never get into that one either. Even after multiple tries, I just could not understand some of the systems in it, or how you're expected to beat a certain golem enemy early on who takes chip damage from any attack and hits hard while there are limited restoratives (unless there's a shop later on?).
hey I tried to like fe engage too, I even finished the game, eventually. I actually liked more the uh, alternate dark story, it was far more interesting and challenging, and the story wasnt as bad.
UGH! You can't be serious??? Mystic Quest? The game is so simple, easy going and not even difficult plus has a little platforming. Nothing is complex about it. You-You've hurt my feelings you hurt my soul and have greatly offended me. Sir, I am not happy today because of you. I hope this has affected you and made your day bitter to have not liked the best Final Fantasy ever. 😢 OMG Vagrant Story too!?????? You are a monster!
I was really pumped to play FE Engage. Was immediately turned off by what they call a story. Somehow finished the game but I will never touch it again. Unlike 3 houses which I have played through several times.
My exact feelings on the Monster Hunter series. I just cannot get into them at all. There's just not enough story and I'm not interested in playing online. I also don't find the combat to feel especially good. I've tried the original, the wii, the 3DS, Rise, and World. They just do nothing for me.
Imo it should be considered it's own genre at this point (hunting genre for example describes it perfectly). Granted with World they added a bit more story than past games did but it's mostly not a jrpg in terms of if you consider a jrpg to need to have a decent sized story focused on cutscenes and the like and not just any game that has builds/leveling system/etc that some peopel argue is all you need for an rpg (those were more for tabletop rpgs though). Even Souls barely makes the cut as an rpg imo and definitely not as a jrpg as I consider Jrpgs to need more focus on cutscene driven main stories than just quests/a short main quest/builds/open world aspect/etc so i classify all Souls games more as wrpgs if anything (less focus on main story and more on an avatar character than character with their own backstory for most wprgs...Witcher is one of the few wprg exceptions that has an established character)). As for existing genres action game may also fit more so than rpg for MH.
I consider them more instance based mission games with collection elements, basically instead of just going to an area to do your own thing and maybe competing missions along with way like most rpgs are, you instead talk to someone to spawns you on the map where the mission is, and instantly ends after you finish the objective list and the game sends you back to town. Granblue relink is another one that comes to mind that does this.
I agree with monster hunter series. It felt very repetitive to me. The way you fight from the beginning of the game is the same at the end nothing changes. If they could add a skill tree to spice things up it could be more interesting. If they have a interesting story like God Eater I dont mind the repetitiveness.
Not to be a 🤓 here but CrossCode was developed in Germany and was publushed by a major German video game company (Deck13) so technically it would be a "GJRPG". Still though, I'm in the minority in where I loved the puzzles so my experience with the game was flawless at least for me. Currently my favorite "indie"? game of all time.
Mystic Quest was one of my first role-playing games and I loved it. It was challenging but always fair and I liked the damage models of the opponents. Even in 2024, there are hardly any games that have such models.
There were a few things it did that I was surprised other games didn't use more- enemy sprites change when they are progressively more damaged and some change to telegraph attacks too. Also the use of various weapons in puzzle-solving capacity like the Dragon Claw and bombs.
Shadows of Adam takes inspiration from this, though not every enemy slowly changes as they take damage, really just the bosses. But its obviously inspired from a lot of games including other final fantasies.
Excuse me Eric but I don't agree with you at all about FEEngaged! The story isn't anything incredible, true, but this is a "real" Fire Emblem unlike other failed episodes (did someone say "F.E.Echoes"?). The combat system is fabulous and the idea of "combos" with mythical characters is exciting. Definitely in my top 5 Fire Emblems.
Bravely Default 2 and Ni no Kuni (the 1st game, haven't touch the 2md game), for BD2 the enemy counter mechanic just turned me off and for Ni no Kuni, the battle system despite being more action oriented it felt so slow.
I recommend Toukiden over Monster Hunter. More story and party members that can decrease the difficulty. If you enjoy the gameplay, you can move on to Monster Hunter.
I really wanted to like Xenoblade chronicles X, i played through the other games and loved them, but the fact that the player character is a personalityless build a character turned me off, i know Elma is a great character and i would've enjoyed it more if she was the MC and not Character cutout #53.
Tales of arise. It had a good idea but bad execution on both story and gameplay. Same with zesteria. Fe echoes. So void of content and good idea on post game but that's it. Shining refrain resonance as I wish they had all the team gain exp so the guy part of the mission isn't a grind that completely destorys the pace of the game. Tokyo mirage sessions. Game was so messy designed on how side missions work. Almost as bad as the paper Mario ttyd mission set up. Shadow the hedgehog. I like the idea that shadow is the main character but not this game or how they had shadow do his story. Feels like a mess overall.
Don't worry, I don't like tales series too. I only completed Arise, but it was more like a chore than fun. Tried also Berseria and Vesperia but I couldn't last longer than 10h. I also didn't like Bravely Default, and Neptunia main series (spin-offs were pretty fun), despite them having a lot of fans.
@@ZER0lPT Eh I liked Arise but I'd still put it in the middle tbh...combat may be 2nd best after Xillia/Hearts R's system (which outside of the gimmick for each game play mostly the same) but the story is around 5th or so for localized games, maybe 7th or 8th if they ever localize the non localized games (Rebirth could probably beat it from what I played while watching a fan sub but never finished it, Destiny DC probably as well and maybe Destiny 2 and Innocence R as well is up in the air). Overall I put Arise at about rank 4 or 5 depending on my mood it'll swap with Xillia. 1 is Symphonia, 2 Berseria, and 3 Abyss when considering all aspects of the games together (of all games imo Symphonia is the most well made one as it has the least amount of plot holes/inconsistencies, best pacing, probably the best story if not tied with Abyss and Berseria, solid characters (not the best in the series though), good puzzles, good map/dungon design, solid music, and so on. All the other games I can think of at least 3 huge aspects that bring the game down overall (Berseria would be i don't like the arte tree combat, Abyss would be the story felt like it added a bit too much more than necessary to make the 3rd act work and imo Luke got a bit boring after cutting his hair and anise was annoying as fuck, Vesperia (the fan favorite) had the worse act 3 in the series and a final boss that didn't make sense (in fact outside of Zestiria I consider it closer to the bottom overall with Zesty and maybe Dawn being the only ones worse due to how badly act 3 dropped the ball), and so on for all the other games). But ya Zestiria is the worse hands down (granted had a better choice for final boss ins some ways than Vesperia and even Arise but his motives were meh, the fight kinda meh in the dragon phase, and he did almost nothing the entire game until the 11th hour...if he was more active/menacing in the story I may have been able to bump it up a few points/places but the camera being trash and 4 player co-op being impossible would still be a big issue to bring it down, not to mention the obtuse skill system on the equipment).
You Know! This is My kind of Video. I can relate to how some RPGs just don’t click. And since I’m here, I might as well share what RPGS have caused me headaches. I can think of No Better Example than FINAL FANTASY TACTICS PSP Version! Not gonna lie, it’s an Unplayable Mess! With the Original Game, you can at least Cheat the system to earn crazy amounts of JP to get the Job Class Abilities you need! But Playing the game as it was Originally Intended to…. WAS an UNFAIR Nightmare Gauntlet of Bad Design Decisions! TIME WASTING Grinding, and Over all a SUPER ANNOYING DIFFICULTY with The Enemies and BOSSES you had to fight! Don’t Even Get Me StArted ON the GOD DAMN Random CHOCOBO FIGHTS! EVERYTHING in the Game Is a Chore to deal With! Always Play the PS1 Version to Cheat the System!
Oh, The Last Remnant... just couldn't understand the shitty battle system, the main character is boring... and when it didn't start anymore, I just put in the bin, and I'll never care for it again. And Monster Hunter. I don't like Monster Hunter.
Glad to be *not* the only one who found Phantasy Star Online Ep III CARD Revolution very dull and annoying. *If* only it was like EP I and EP II, it would’ve been a better game.
Last remnant? Agreed Fire emblem? Totally! Briliant gameplay just ruined by idioticy Vagrant story is a masterpiece, can't have myself beat it too. Guess it's just long and boring Monster hunter - well, Erick I too, was this game hater at first. It was... MHFU for psp. First ever dragon ripped me apart and I, because have no idea droped this game coz "too hard!". I give up for 3-4 month and give it anither chance. I read A LOT OF TEXT ingame about how to play, and go on with it. So it's happen - the first dragon WAS NOT supposed to be killed! And after it - games oppened for me. It's RPG about being a hunter who getting good.
The first time it actually click to me is when I finally beat a monster called Rathian in MHGen. Back then, I just consider this series a slower God Eater. Its just weird that something change when you realized you defeated something on your own. Learning the enemy's behavior felt engaging. Its hard to describe why I enjoy MH but ever since I gave hundreds of hours, I crave something similar to it.
I admit there's an absolute f**kton of puzzles in CrossCode, but the story is amazing :D Besides, it's fun figuring out how to make stuff work and the satisfaction from solving it is especially great in this game.
I am currently playing one of your favorites: Super Mario RPG remake and it's putting me to sleep man. I play 20 minutes and I feel like turning it off and taking a nap, it's like going back to RPG kindergarden. I should've played it when I was 9. I missed the boat.
PSO Episode III was an immediate skip due to the card based system. I enjoyed the first one on the Dreamcast. Off-line was a bare-bones dungeon crawler, but I still had a lot of fun with it.
Mine was tokyo mirage sessions, same reason of yours on fire emblem engage, too much cringe! How do they get two serious series of RPGs, merge them, and turn that into that cringe fest?
I didnt have anything to do so i beat the game, but i hated the part where the story started with tsubasa as story focus and later, the main character was the focus at the end
I agree with CrossCode. Awesome idea, the game is decently fun, but they always have to ruin the recipe with something, and in CC, it's timed puzzles. The game would have been 10x better without so many ludicrously complex timed puzzles, and if you fail you have to go way back around several rooms to try again in some places, and also some other places it suffers from "where the frick am I supposed to GO!?" ... and also the overworld maps are ludicrously hard to find any of the stuff you're supposed to find in them, and the trading system is just stupid too. Shame, because I was interested in the story and general battle mechanics of the game, but the puzzles and other problems just turn me off on it entirely.
Fire Emblem Engage is a so so Fire Emblem, if you want some decent maps its fine, but the story is kinda trash as are a good 90% off the characters, but on the bright side romance is gone so a mild improvement

mystiq quest has a phenomenal soundtrack.
that "combat" gameplay of the Arc the Lad sequel legit caused me pain, wtfff
Agarest: Generations of War is definitely one of them. So much going for it, but it's bogged down by a lot of its systems.

yeah, i hate level scaling in General as well. It never makes you feel stronger, so that you can steamroll through Enemies.
@@BeatmasterAC That's the point.
The Atelier series in general.
No matter how hard I try, every time I try to start it again I always end up quitting after less than an hour.
How? The Ryza trilogy are hella fun what you mean dude? It baffles me.
Man, what a heartbreaking birthday present
I read this at that part 😂😂😂
I have fond memories of Threads of Fate! I can still remember the OST !
Threads of Fate is basically Squaresoft taking XenoGears's annoying engine and making it into an action RPG lol. I agree with all the games we played in common except for Vagrant story I freaking love that game.
my dude sounded like Gollum "our birthday present!"
Guess whose video this: convoluted this, convoluted that, convoluted, convoluted. Just kidding, like the vids. It just was very prominent again.
For me it was Rogue Galaxy and Resonance of Fate. Tried them each for a few days and gave up on the both.
You're a bit too late to be "the one guy who defends Mystic Quest" anyway.... Stop Skeletons From Fighting, back when he was called The Happy Video Gme Nerd, already defended that game, and I seem to recall he was not alone.
For me Astral Chain was the one that I really wanted to like.
Mystic Quest was the first game I ever owned and I still love it to this day. And the soundtrack is absolutely amazing!
Have Phantom Brave for the psp. Never got into it either.
Wow,…Arc the Lad caused you severe emotional damage 😮
I'll never understand how they went from Three Houses to Engage. Like...did they just fire their entire writing team and get a bunch of edgy zoomers instead or something?
I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that they hired some company to do a "cool story and characters".
It was on purpose to attract more simpletons to the series.
They tried to get younger people in the game... despite plenty of Gen Z already being interested in Three Houses...
I Like Engage but not on the Same Level of the MasterPiece Goat of Three Houses
The reason was that since Engage was an anniversary game they wanted to make a story similar to older FE games with having a simple plot of “slaying the dragon”
I also wanted more for PSO 3
I kind of disagree with Fire Emblem Engage. Sure things about Engage are questionable, i admit, but there is so much good about it. In my opinion, Engage is not the worst Fire Emblem game in the Series and all this hate by JRPG fans comes from not giving this game a chance but that's just my opinion.
Now play FE Engage and this is 10/10 game!
9 for gameplay and 1 for story 😂😂
Threads of Fate is great, but only Mint's route.
As for games that i myself want to like but for one reason or another makes me quit playing:
- Mystery dungeon games of any kind, because nothing says fk you quite like a random enemy sniping you from off screen instantly killing you and you losing everything you went in with as the game tells you to try again... with none of the items you had... that you farmed up... that you failed WITH them so be damned if you try without them (or spend a few hours farming up the items again just to maybe lose it all again due to something out of your control), they just don't feel fun like other roguelike games especially with Shiren or Izuna that makes damn well sure that you don't cheese deaths.
I always like to start these, but as the mechanics slowly seep in it just gets more and more painful to play.
oh man, I though Last Remnant was just me, but I guess not. Had the exact same reaction!
Grats on 100k
I'd love to see a video about best RPG's that aren't super long. Like
I got you. You playin console or emulator?
How did nippon ichi make so many games
They're a developer AND publisher. A lot of the games you might attribute to them weren't actually developed by them, just published by them.
@saintfayde4438 I mean I kinda knew they did both, but I never like games they personally made. Disgaea was just not my cup o tea
no tendras un top de los mejores rpg en steam?
The Final Fights in that game are super Annoying.
I 100% agree with Crosscode. game is a puzzle RPG and i can't cope with it while at the same time gameplaywise it seems f****g GOAT (god) tier
You talk like a villian from a kids cartoon. It's awesome.
for fire emblem engage, you can thanks your translator because they change an atrosious amount of dialogue from the original
14:30 when somebody who has dedicated years of their life playing these games drops a jrpg for cringe and poorly written characters , a trademark of jrpgs , then it must have been especially bad
Me seeing the thumbnail "who hates pso?"
Then I saw episode 3 and fully understand.
More like 10 jrpgs that need to change to your sensiblities
The donkey ass graphics is still the best.
Kinda agree, love pretty much everything dragon quest. Almost everything outside of that from square is not my thing.
I love PSO1 ep 1 2 and 4. PSO2 is..not bad. PSO ep 3 though...Never played it and something tells me...that's for the best.
the problem of vagrant story is the complex system, until you understand it, the game is very punitive, it also make the MC too weak from the start for a legendary Risk breaker, it is very easy to shoot yourself in the foot, if wasnt enough to start with weapon affinity zero or negative, the game soon gives you combo to do more damage, but affinity is gained by complete attack, so by combo every enemy to death, you dont build up affinity, making them take less damage, forcing to combo more and the cicle goes on, so until you realize you should just normal attack common enemies and only combo bosses, you are many hours in and suffering a lot.
I actually really liked Engage **because of** the silly characters and campiness of it. Sometimes it is nice to have something lighthearted
Same here, also they *could’ve* possibly done three houses *without* turning it into Persona lite. That’s what I don’t like about 3H.
Me too
The Last Remnant ❤❤❤
I've tried monster hunter a couple of times, but never connected with it.
Played second g in psp and got world in ps4
100%agree about cross code. I did force my way through to see the end. Even navigating through some towns was a puzzle.
Is it worth it to push through the game? I see some yt video the story of Cross Code is some kind of masterpiece?
Understandable list. I will just pretend that part where you mention Vagrant Story didn't happen.
I could never get into that one either. Even after multiple tries, I just could not understand some of the systems in it, or how you're expected to beat a certain golem enemy early on who takes chip damage from any attack and hits hard while there are limited restoratives (unless there's a shop later on?).
I beat the game more than 3 times.
I loved that game a long time ago,but i know its way hard to like it
I recomend metal max 2 and 3 on the ds they are amazing games that never left japon now with a english fan translation
hey I tried to like fe engage too, I even finished the game, eventually.
OMG Vagrant Story too!?????? You are a monster!
I was really pumped to play FE Engage. Was immediately turned off by what they call a story. Somehow finished the game but I will never touch it again. Unlike 3 houses which I have played through several times.
My exact feelings on the Monster Hunter series. I just cannot get into them at all. There's just not enough story and I'm not interested in playing online. I also don't find the combat to feel especially good. I've tried the original, the wii, the 3DS, Rise, and World. They just do nothing for me.
Is Monster Hunter even an RPG? I guess it has elements, but I never thought of it as an RPG.
It Is it's own genre now, Hunting action game. But most people need a friend who' into MH to explain it's corks to then get into it too
He could play the stories ones they are rpgs with rpgs elements and monster hunter things
@@ookamibr1918 it should be called "hunt-like"
I consider them more instance based mission games with collection elements, basically instead of just going to an area to do your own thing and maybe competing missions along with way like most rpgs are, you instead talk to someone to spawns you on the map where the mission is, and instantly ends after you finish the objective list and the game sends you back to town.
Where's your accent from?
Not to be a 🤓 here but CrossCode was developed in Germany and was publushed by a major German video game company (Deck13) so technically it would be a "GJRPG". Still though, I'm in the minority in where I loved the puzzles so my experience with the game was flawless at least for me. Currently my favorite "indie"? game of all time.
Biggest disappointment for me was Kingdom Hearts 3. We waited too long for what we got. I won’t be buying anymore KH day one ever again.
I really disliked crosscode too. I know everyone loves it, but those damn puzzle just got on my nerves.
Threads of Fate was one of those games that made me want a playstation but I never actually bought it.
I loved Threads of Fate. The princess girl reactions were great
I really wanted to like Xenoblade chronicles X, i played through the other games and loved them, but the fact that the player character is a personalityless build a character turned me off, i know Elma is a great character and i would've enjoyed it more if she was the MC and not Character cutout #53.
Glad someone does not like Last Remanent
Have not liked a Fire Emblem post SNES era.
Monster Hunter Stories are really the only MH ones I have liked.
Can agree on cross code. I know it's not an RPG but have you played inscription, it's amazing
It hurts me seeing you're comparing one of the best Tales, Arise with one of the worst Zestiria.
Arise and zestiria are ❤❤❤
Don't worry, I don't like tales series too. I only completed Arise, but it was more like a chore than fun. Tried also Berseria and Vesperia but I couldn't last longer than 10h. I also didn't like Bravely Default, and Neptunia main series (spin-offs were pretty fun), despite them having a lot of fans.
@@akuwdf8057 amazing games
Fire emblem engaged was so censored I couldn't even consider it.
Cross code is amazing
Monster hunter is't for you saddly loved that you mentioned cross code i love it so much
How you can be so wrong about Engage is remarkable 😂
I love this videos. But hate how hard games over those games
I couldn't get into Fallout New Vegas.
Glad to be *not* the only one who found Phantasy Star Online Ep III CARD Revolution very dull and annoying. *If* only it was like EP I and EP II, it would’ve been a better game.
Not all games are for everyone. A lot of these seem to suffer from the common denominator of bad writing.
Last remnant? Agreed
Fire emblem? Totally! Briliant gameplay just ruined by idioticy
Vagrant story is a masterpiece, can't have myself beat it too. Guess it's just long and boring
Monster hunter - well, Erick I too, was this game hater at first.
I just enjoyed MH starting with World so you can try that.
I tried to give this one a chance 20 hours in I had to walk …
Shame, because I was interested in the story and general battle mechanics of the game, but the puzzles and other problems just turn me off on it entirely.
seeing PSO and MH on this list hurts, but you have the right to not like them ^^ great list overall :)
Fire Emblem Engage is a so so Fire Emblem, if you want some decent maps its fine, but the story is kinda trash as are a good 90% off the characters, but on the bright side romance is gone so a mild improvement
