    I NEED THIS! I develop on Linux and have been using Thinkpads and the trackpoint forever!

    This is beautiful. I wish I hadn't missed this drop. Btw, I've never seen someone fold their laptop that way. What computer is that? ; )

      Thank you very much! The laptop is the HP Spectre x360. I got it specifically so that can fold and use my mechs with it!

      Yeah once I discovered Apple's bluetooth trackpad I gave up on this idea.

    $300? At least give it some thick double shot/dye sublimated keycaps. Also the way they make the trackpoint can be improved a bit by mounting it on the case rather than the PCB. And even if it adds to the price if someone were to care spending $300 on a keyboard they won't argue if you raise it to $350 with improvements

      I agree this wasn't a great value product.
      The price of a lot went down considerably after the video, and a kit with a gmk doubleshot set became available but that was very very expensive

      At that price point, PBT keycap is a must

    as an exclusive mouse replacement or for precise work, a trackpoint is a total pain in the ass.
    but for long hours of text work, it's a blessing, saving you hundreds of times of having to reach for the mouse.

    • @SkepticalCaveman
      @SkepticalCaveman 5 лет назад +1

      Really, I prefer a track point over a mouse. I have close to maximum sensitivity and use a light touch.

    • @spockthelogical
      @spockthelogical 5 лет назад +1

      They're worse than a mouse, far, far better than a trackpad.

    • @SkepticalCaveman
      @SkepticalCaveman 5 лет назад

      @@spockthelogical Worse than a mouse? I haven't used a mouse in 10 years, they are annoying, because of all space that they need. I only want to use the trackpoint. I have a small drawing tablet also but that I only use for drawing and I still navigate the menus with my left index finger while drawing with my right hand. I actually use both hands equally well and often with the trackpoint. I just set the pointer speed close to maximum and use a light touch, what a joy.

    I learned to play WoW on a laptop that had a track thingy back in 2007-2008. Now I play with a 20% board and an MMO mouse.

    You could sandblast the dedicated keycaps to leave room for the trackpoint.

    Perhaps you should check out "Ducky Mini". It has mouse-movement-control with Fn+WASD. And compare with Tex Yoda II

    • @JYMV
      @JYMV  6 лет назад +2

      I tried this out with the Mousekeys function on QMK on my Planck, and I think the trackpoint on the Yoda is a little more natural. I think I can get used to WASD mouse control, but it's a little more digital-feeling than a regular mouse if you know what I mean.

    Now I just want to see somebody make a high profile, Ortholinear version of this with good quality double shot PBT keycaps. I feel like I would happily pay $500 for all those criteria to be hit.

    If you like the high quality design of this, but don't really need the trackpoint - what would you recommend?

    • @JYMV
      @JYMV  6 лет назад +1

      Tex makes regard 60% cases of a similar design over at MechanicalKeyboards.com but they're a bit pricy
      You should check out case options at kbdfan

    No Cursor Keys ? How do you navigate the text?

    • @JYMV
      @JYMV  6 лет назад +1

      So the board is fully programmable so you can map whatever key to be arrows
      The most common way is the map some key to FN and IJKL to be arrows when pressed along with FN

    $300 and it's not even built? What? I'm all about high quality products and stuff, but this is overpriced for sure.

    • @JYMV
      @JYMV  6 лет назад +8

      The unbuilt kit versions have been available for anywhere between 200 and 250 through different outlets so that's a little better. Also the built versions were available in the 250-300 range
      Generally, boards being built or not isn't a big factor in pricing since most people will want to build theirs with switches of their choice, and probably even enjoy the experience
      In the highest end markets (1k+ per board), unbuilt kits are actually worth much more than built ones

    • @ThisMayContainNuts
      @ThisMayContainNuts 6 лет назад +1

      JYMV Well, yes sure people find enjoyment in building them as a kit, but it’s still cheaper for the company who’s selling them.
      But anyways, people buy them, so why lower the prices further
