Just like he said, its a game changer! I was carrying buckets for 4 years and constantly tried to find excuses to skip a water change or two cus it was just so much work!! But after I got my python I find my self doing more water changes then I need cus its just SOOO EASY now and I really enjoy doing maintences now when everything is soo easy :D If u have a decent size tank and ur still carrying buckets GET A PYTHON!!
Got my first Python clean and fill system (50ft with two 25ft extensions ) in 1990 when I started a aquarium maintenance biz. Love it. only wish the snap adapters were still offered in plastic. Cheers!
Great tutorial/showcase and editing! I’ve been doing waterchanges like this on my cichlid tank for YEARS and adding dechlorinator directly to the tank has never given me any problems.
7 tanks here. 3 upstairs and 4 in basement. This changed my life. I do all tanks same day and it’s so simple now. 75 foot hose reaches everywhere no problem. I can also water my outdoor plants with the waste water thanks to this system.
I feel like a veteran in the hobby now since I started using a python about a year ago and that was about a year and a half after getting into the hobby best invention by far 👌🏼
First of all glad you are back doing youtubes. I have a Python but have never used it but after seeing this vid I will use it on the next water change this coming weekend. Thanks!
I used the Aqueon Water Changer for yrs when I had bigger tanks and had no problems with it. I loved it. Definitely made water change days easier. I have smaller tanks now so I don't use it any longer.
Interesting method , good video , I use a submersible pump (2500 L an hour) on my 75 gallon , it's usually used for a water fountain in a pond , but a friend has used one for years and its just as effective for water changes in an aquarium , drains 50% of my tank in about 6-8 mins. Then when refilling i just put the pump into the bucket in the sink , run the hose to the tank , turn on the mixer tap , gauge the temp and then just turn pump on , its easily halved my water change time. Also no more heavy buckets 👍
That's what I was going to try. I don't like that with the Python your tap has to be running in order to suction the tank water you're already wasting. That's super wasteful, convenient but most things that are convenient end up being wasteful unfortunately
@@NxOxOxDxLxExS It doesn’t work like that. You just run the water for a second long enough to gain suction. After it starts pulling the water out of your aquarium then you turn off your water and it will continue to syphon on its own. You don’t have to continually run water the whole time.
Over 20 years ago when I was fit n able I kept fish but as time went on I became unable to physically lift heavy buckets etc. I discovered the python water changer by chance and bought two from the USA, before I even got a tank or fish. They cost a lot with shipping but worth every penny. I can now do water changes without any lifting of buckets etc and really enjoy the hobby. I have four tanks now and could not do without the Python water changer, quite simply it makes it possible now.
I’ve never owned fish, but I can tell what a game changer this was. The thing I would dread the most about having fish would be the hassle with carrying buckets, etc. This completely removes the tedious aspect.
I love the quick disconnect adapter. Got mine at Home Depot & it has a screen in it so you don't have to switch it every time. Makes it really easy just snap it on & off when done.
I just bought one of these in November and before that I was using the ole bucket train to empty and fill my aquariums. Mind you I live in a one bedroom apartment and only have a 55g, 29g, 20g, & 2 10 g set up currently. Even with so few tanks and not very big ones this thing still makes the maintenance so much easier and quicker! I don't even know what I was thinking and why I waited so long to get one of these things. I've been looking at getting one for over a year now and finally pulled the trigger in November. If you have a very large tank or many tanks you won't regret getting one of these. The only thing I wish I would have done is get the 50' version instead of the 25' version. Oh, I also recommend getting their hook adapter for filling. I hooks right onto the side of the tank so you don't have to worry about the hose falling out while filling.
As a goldfish keeper that performs weekly 75% water changes, I wouldn't consider the hobby without a Python water changing system. I started the hobby with a 20 gallon tank. Once I discovered the Python, upgrading to a 30-gallon and then a 55-gallon was not longer daunting. I can't say enough good things about the system. A few recommendations: 1. To save wear and tear on the system, I invested in Python's brass quick disconnects for every place in the system where I screw/unscrew the the components every time I use it. It's quicker setup and break-down, and eliminates the risk of cross-threading/damaging the parts. 2. While the pump at the sink works well, it wastes a lot of water. A while ago I figured out the how much water I used pumping water out of the aquarium. I seem to recall there was at least 50% water overhead. That is, for every gallon you pump out, you waste at least 1/2 gallon of tap water. For a smaller tank, this probably won't be of concern to you. But, for larger aquariums, it will impact your water bill. So, when removing water form my tank, I put an Eheim pump inline with the system. I prime the system with the water from the sink, then I turn the water off, and use the pump. If you choose to use this approach, you'll need to remove the electric pump from the system when you refill your tank. I learned the hard way, these pumps are not designed to handle the water pressure from your tap. :-) 3. Python sells gravel tubes of various lengths. So, you can buy one that is well suited for the height of your tank, that won't require you to have your hand in your aquarium while vacuuming the bottom. This isn't necessary to operate the system. But, it does make life easier.
You shouldn't need a pump anyways if you run the sink water for like 40 seconds then shut it off the tube should already have a siphon and flow to the sink
It all depends on the height differential between your tank and sink. When I turn off my water, without using the pump, water does trickle into the sink. However, it's not enough flow to vacuum the substrate, and would take me hours to do what takes about 20 minutes.
Thank you for the info. I save my water for my plants from my fresh aquarium and I could use it on my 150gal reef tank to tank water out but I still have to use a bucket to put it back in
I have been a fish keeper for most of my life and I have done buckets countless times I have had my water changer for over 2 years and by far the best fish keeping invention ever
Your absolutely correct been watching your videos for along time and your suggestions have yet to fail. I made a collage of the competitions parts that I’ve replaced over the years it’s on my wall of shame.
I blew my low back out at work when I was 28yo & had 6 back surgeries, was forced to retire & am in pain literally all day even with the 3 diff pain meds I take. I ABSOLUTELY COULD NOT get back in the hobby without the Python System let alone have more than 1 tank!! Getting up in the morning & getting outta bed is a job so no way could I do the bucket brigade.
I know it back pain is like my friend, I bottled it for many years but I found something that changed my life. I played lots of hockey and boxed for many years and I'm a heavy duty mechanic so I don't need to tell you how hard that stuff is on your body. I found out that meat and dairy cause inflammation in your joints so I eliminated them from my diet and I'm no longer in any pain and it is awesome not to mention all the health benefits thought I would let you know as anyone I encounter that goes through some of the same things I try to to help.
I have the same issues. I have put off getting back into the hobby for many years because of my back. The Python was one of the 1st things I ordered. Best thing ever. Not just for people that don't want to carry buckets, but for people like us, that cannot. :)
I have cerbal pausly, before they made the python. I save my milk jugs and was going to have dirty water drain into the milk jug. When it got full put the lid on dump it out. Fill the jug with clean water. But now, i don't have to do that. So yay!🙂🙃🙂🙃
Another great video. Keep up the good work and always nice seeing a local doing their thing on RUclips. I seen an episode you did with Cory on quarantine. Could you do a video on how you do it because I don't have no room or way to set up a quarantine tank. Thanks again!!
Awesome information!!!! Thank you! One thought though, I don’t see a lot of people mentioning about one thing: “Check your water parameters before filling up your tanks.” Not all tap water out there is safe for fish. I installed an under sink filter first.
Oh brother i just got mine in today and did a water change and I can't believe how much easier this it. I have a 120 gal and I would empty it out the window with a hose but filling it was with buckets. . . . Man Idk why I took so long to get this. Thank you thank you thank you
How do you empty the old water from the tube and the new water from the tube. Can’t seem to figure it out what’s the trick? I have to take outside to empty all the water.
Very good product…been using both Phtyon gravel washer siphon and No spill water changer for over a year now! just wish they could improve somehow by not wasting water faucet!
I wish they made a larger version with larger tubing, I believe they use 3/8 tubing on all of them. something like 1/2" or 5/8 would be more useful for better flow.
You can make your own vacuum. Go to the store and buy the desired tubing and attach it to the neck end of a plastic water bottle and cut off the bottom. Vola...instant vacuum. And because the intake end is so big, it is great for vacuuming carpeted plants.
3:15 "What about de-chlorinating the water" ? Yup...that was my question, thanks. My only comment...turn off your heater !!! I learned the hard way when I left it plugged in and did a 30% water change that exposed most of my heater. You guessed it, my heater cracked. Fortunately I had a back up but learn from my mistake. BTW I enjoy your videos.
Here’s a new one I just learned you can get an extra connector to the top of your fluval add 25’ of hose attach it to the outflow of the fx6 and run the filter it will drain your tank In A few minutes I’m thinking of trying the opposite attaching to the intake side to clean my gravel. The drain version works great. I’m fearful the cleaning method might be way too strong. I know fluval makes a gravel cleaner but this sounds like it’s a good DIY Sincerely Chris
Hi John, this was another great video, and I must say, you look quite distinguished with that touch of gray in your beard 😆. Thanks very much for sharing, and I will share the video on Ben’s group 👍.
I have a syphon system which I clean the tank and this goes into a bucket. I don't like it has its a pain. I connected an extension hose to direct the flow outside of my house which was great at first. But it had a drawback as it gets plugged up with debris. So I am asking the question with that system does it get plugged up or is the system strong enough to overcome any blockage especially if you have some distance to the sink?
HI! I’m a brand new fish keeper. I just got a new beta fish from Pet Smart a couple of weeks ago and I am trying to learn as much as i can to take care of my fish. So, I want to get a Python system but it looks so intimidating! After watching your video, I was wondering..... how do you warm the water to the right temperature when you run the water back into the tank? I’ve enjoyed my fish so far and taking good care of him BUT I feel so overwhelmed by all the stuff to learn! 😱 I don’t really know anyone who is knowledgeable about fish keeping. I would appreciate any help i can get from an expert! 😁 I will check out the link.
do you add conditioner for the whole tank or just the replaced water? say if you have a 400 gallon tank and replace 200 do u add conditioner for 200 gallons or 400 gallons?? thanks
Hi, not sure where to post unrelated questions so please point me in the right direction if I have got it wrong. How do you feed a mixed African Cichlid tank if they have different dietary requirements
Top fin has a water changer now. I unfortunately use the aqueon on if I leave the oring in water sprays all over the floor if I take it out it pops off the tap so I’m getting the python water changer in a week
Just got mine today and the suction isn’t very strong, like some of the fish food won’t into the hose but it’ll kinda just float in the siphon. Is my hose maybe too long? It’s 25 ft and it wraps quite a bit
I wish my kitchen sink had the capability to be hooked up to this or the "other brand" one I have. Unfortunately, I have to use my hose faucet through the window behind the tanks. it definitely makes it a lot easier to drain and fill the tanks; my only complaint is this ends up mixing the tank water and hose water so I don't know if I'm killing all the bacteria in my filter when I wash it off.
I assume that when you start syphoning out of your aquarium, you fill the tube with water from the faucet, then close the faucet and open the bottom tap so that the water would start flowing from the tank - right? so it's just the hydrostatic pressure that empties the tank and you cannot go below the level of the green tap, can you? or is there an active part involved in the system?
im doing a tank swap on saturday. when i add the tap water to my tank do i add the prime after the tanks filled up? im a little nervous im going from a 20 gallon to a 36 bow front.
Hello! I have a question. Is it safe to use warm tap water directly ? I heard that warm water has heavy metals from using the heater. I am living in Canada. Thank you for help !
I want to get the python it seems like such a great investment but all my tank water in changes goers too my garden, its a pain carrying buckets through the house to different garden beds nearly tripping over my animals each time and having to check the outside door is closed as my cats arnt allowed out anymore. The python seems like it will work amazing but do you know of any other devices where the tank water goes to the garden instead of down the drain?
Get a hosepipe, start a suction from the tank and let it drain on the garden...once you done draining to your desired amount lift it up to stop the suction and connect the other end to your faucet to refill
You know I tried using a gravel vaccume for my 7 tanks but I feel it only useful to remove the water for changes. If the water starts to smell my betta. I used the gravel vac to take out all the water and then I go into the and I literally rub the gravel with my hands and rinse it. Because when I add fresh water it doesn't smell. But if I fill up my 3 gallon tanks with new water and the gravel has only been vacuumed it smells like I didn't even change it
Does anyone have any ideas on what you can do if you have a faucet that has a sprayer hose on it? Otherwise I would have to buy the 100' one and run it all the way to my bathroom... Then I would be afraid there wouldn't be enough pressure.
Can I use this with my turtle I just got or will it put salmonella right into the sink? I love my turtle and am desperately trying to find a way to keep his tank clean not being able to lift a 20gal tank by myself and I have a child so don’t want spills all over the house. I’m trying to think- could I empty into a large bucket. Stop part way through and dump it outside and do that a few times? So it doesn’t go into the sink?
I have only two aquarium 10 and 5 gallon plus bad back by carrying 10 lbs of aquarium gravel rocks walking to and from bus stop. Now my back can’t hold 50% water changes on both tank.. Which is better for me? Aqueon or Python.
Hey Fish Fam, I'm still doing the old school large trash can water change method along with buckets. I have not fully tested out the effects of using a python/sink/vacuum hose to add water to my tanks. My question is after adding tap water directly to a Aquarium, just after the water change, would plants, fish, snails, shrimp, bacteria, from "normal" tap water (City water not Well Water) containing Chlorine (Cl) and Chloramines (NH2Cl), (sorry I do not know the PPM of my CL, NH2CL for this QnA), and then adding a water conditioner like Prime for example. Would treating the tank after or while doing (example: a 10gal USA fish tank, doing a 10%, 1 USA Gallon "easy math" water change) prevent the (Cl, NH2CL) from causing harm to the Bacteria colony in/on the (substrate, surface areas, filter media etc), or any other livestock in the tank? All of my tanks have Sponge Filters and some have HOB'S. I have always been worried about harming my BIO, and Fish Tank Ecosystem, that is why I have always Pre-Treated buckets of water before adding water to my tanks.-------> SHORT READ!!! QNA!!! Will dechlorinating the tank water (with prime) before or during the water change (adding water) from a Python/Python Hook Prevent any harm to live stock?
Is this a bad idea if you have well water? I have Discus that like softer water but, I'm sick of going to the grocery store to fill jugs of RO water. Plus, the cost of it.
I watch you along with others fish tank aquarium care takers. Here is a Question for you. This question is to you solely no one else have got this question from me. Right now I have a 15 gallon fish tank or you got 2 fishing it the main purpose was to save my shiner's for fishing fishing it's a throwing them in the water and go out by more every time I go fishing. What do you think of the idea of adding water to continuously continue as I purchase at a fish store to store my water and letting it distill I'm adding chemicals in the water Ahead of time instead of putting in the fish tank all at once. I know I'll have to irritate it to get the air back in the water to help sustain the fish I have. But anything else pro or con.
What if my sink is more than 25 feet from my tank? Are there extensions or something so I can add length to the hoses? *edit* My bad. I should have clicked the link first, there are longer sizes. Thanks for the link
Here's a quick Amazon link if you'd like to pick up a Python and change your life!

why are you spamming stuff here

I almost spit my drink out when I heard “ain’t nobody got time for that “ 🤣

John, loved that this video was short and concise. Great job Buddy!
How do you empty the old water from the tube and the new water from the tube. Can’t seem to figure it out what’s the trick? I have to take outside to empty all the water.
I agree! Very good addition to any aquarist tool box. Thanks for the video
Got one, Use it, Love it. Never going back to the bucket brigade.
@3:33 I see smoke in the right lower corner👀 John has that good good
On saltwater tank put a nice sump pump in your water mix bucket. The python works great for that.
Just got one of these. I have to modify how it connects to the the tap but works great.
Very good product…been using both Phtyon gravel washer siphon and No spill water changer for over a year now! just wish they could improve somehow by not wasting water faucet!
Glad I found this! Wondered about dechlorination!
a Big AMEN! I know have two. One for the main fishroom and one for the outside pond. :D It is a live saver!
Totally agree! It was the best purchase I could of made in this hobby.
Absolutely love my phython!! ....he's not lying folks....it works just like John showed....I've got 6 big tanks...the phython saved my back !!
Omg...love it.... I was trying to create my own thing haha but this is worth it.... thanks man!!
I had to do 3 water changes yesterday LOL and I am getting one today! Sold !

I have to get a Python I’m tired of the buckets happy new year John
Ok I’m convinced! I’m getting one. Hope this works well for me!!
Sure is I just done a water change in half an hour quicker then using my fx4 to do water change love it
Thank you for the Python information...just got one and it works wonderfully. Appreciated.
The python is worth every penny, you will make water changes and tank cleaning so much easier and less stress. 💕
3:15 "What about de-chlorinating the water" ? Yup...that was my question, thanks.

BTW I enjoy your videos.
As soon as i got the phyton i got more tanks because it makes maintenance so much easier. Lol
Agreed! This makes my life so much easier!
Same happened to me, I now have four.
Me too
Literally me too. That’s the only reason why I bought a 220
Here’s a new one I just learned you can get an extra connector to the top of your fluval add 25’ of hose attach it to the outflow of the fx6 and run the filter it will drain your tank In A few minutes

I have to aqeon water changer and its great ! Its only a 25 ft so id need to buy a longer one if it were to do all my tanks 😂
Ain’t nobody got time for that 🤣🤣🤣🤣 y’all made my day 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I use 20' half inch PVC pipe that leads outside with the aquarium vacuum and water hose from shower head.
😁 I will check out the link.
do you add conditioner for the whole tank or just the replaced water? say if you have a 400 gallon tank and replace 200 do u add conditioner for 200 gallons or 400 gallons?? thanks
Okay okay the last 25 videos/reviews I've seen have finally sold me on it 😂 My fish will thank me I'm sure
I really need to get one of these. Great video as usual 👍
Hi, not sure where to post unrelated questions so please point me in the right direction if I have got it wrong. How do you feed a mixed African Cichlid tank if they have different dietary requirements
Thanks to this video, my mom finally gave me permission to put my tank upstairs😊
works with nano aquariums? I am afraid to put the water directly into smaller aquariums without first dechlorinating. Thank you!
Top fin has a water changer now. I unfortunately use the aqueon on if I leave the oring in water sprays all over the floor if I take it out it pops off the tap so I’m getting the python water changer in a week
Omg 🎉🎉🎉👍👍👏👏 You sabe my life !!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
So true about waiting 24 hours, thank you!
Didn’t know this existed thank you John
I assume that when you start syphoning out of your aquarium, you fill the tube with water from the faucet, then close the faucet and open the bottom tap so that the water would start flowing from the tank - right? so it's just the hydrostatic pressure that empties the tank and you cannot go below the level of the green tap, can you? or is there an active part involved in the system?
Which gravel cleaner are you using, been sesrchin for a while for a good one with a flexibele hose
Thumbs up just for the "ain't nobody got time for that" lol!
+Anthony Deleon lol, I love that woman
im doing a tank swap on saturday. when i add the tap water to my tank do i add the prime after the tanks filled up? im a little nervous im going from a 20 gallon to a 36 bow front.
Just ordered one will see how it works
Is it easy to find adapters for different taps? Seriously contemplating this now I have 8 tanks (only restarted the hobby again in May 24 🤦🏻♀️🤣🤣)
Hello! I have a question. Is it safe to use warm tap water directly ? I heard that warm water has heavy metals from using the heater. I am living in Canada. Thank you for help !
Please note python won’t work well if u don’t have water pressure in ur faucet lines . Poor pressure won’t clean
How does it work for sand substrate? I’m concerned about sand in my drain.
Awesome video buddy thank u👍😎
Thank you. I just ordered mine for my 40-gallon tank because my baby red ear sliders are messy asf LOL
will these still siphon water out if the tank is WAY lower than the sink in height??
Got mine yesterday. 👍
Nearly a year old video. Hope somebody looks at my comment xD Thank you all for any and all responses
What size hose is that in this video
How much dechlorinator do you put it? Based on water removed or total capacity?
Do you know if it would fit European kitchen taps?
I love my python 🐍 I can’t see doing water changes any other way since getting one years ago.
I just ordered one. I can't wait for it to arrive. :D
Does your tank have to be higher than your sink for it to drain with python?
How much do you dose when you do a 30 percent water change the whole capacity of the tank ?
What if my sink is more than 25 feet from my tank? Are there extensions or something so I can add length to the hoses?
*edit* My bad. I should have clicked the link first, there are longer sizes. Thanks for the link
I was just about to say they have diff sizes when I hit da read more lol
They have 25', 50', 75' and 100' versions available:-)
