    A HUGE part of Howard’s magic was to find and abuse, on air, low to medium talent. Gary, Stut John, Jackie, Gange, Grillo, KC, Sal, Richard etc..the list goes on.
    He kept them there because they were great show filler.
    It got old after 20 years, but filling the void has proved unlistenable for most fans.
    I wish Howard would have retired the contract after Artie was gone.

So happy my son wasn’t star struck ( the guest not Stern). I would imagine people like Gangi stayed for minimal pay. They didn’t even offer my son car fare to come work for free as Howard makes his Millions. Howard cried about giving his first wife money when they divorced. The wife who had more money than him to start. A better job too. The Alison bore Howard three Beautiful daughters. That he barely helped with. • @jeremiahjohnson1513
    @jeremiahjohnson1513 11 месяцев назад +4

    I have to add a different perspective here. A lot of ex Stern employees rip Howard after being "fired" but what really jumps out at you when you look at the history of the show is just how stable Howard's employee base has been. The radio business is notoriously unstable and unpredictable, mass firings are common and few shows have employees that can say they were a part of a team for 20+ years. Howard has had a lot of them and most of the employees are not really Stern employees anyways, they are employed by Sirius or whatever radio station he works for. The management of those companies is always looking for way to cut costs and Howard has been known for going to bat for employees and keeping them with him when management was trying to cut them loose. You can't be on the air for 40 yrs. and not have some attrition, even with the star of the show trying to keep a team together long term there are times when certain employees are going to be let go, it's just a part of business, especially the radio business.
    Also, the only reason we know about employees being fired, or laid off, on Howard's show is because he weaves employees into the show itself so they become known to his audience. Most radio stations people get fired and the audience has no idea it even happened. So why are Stern show employees somehow exempt from the volatility of the radio business but not other radio shows employees?

    The best thing about the show left when Alot of the originals left
    When it was Howard, Robin, Jackie, Fred, Gary, Ralph, Stuttering John, Gange, the early versions of the wack pack, the wacky guests he'd get (some from calls and some off the street) ect...ect...
    Then he started running his show like it's a professional show and not what it was .... It was a comedy show with a host who went against the grain and didn't give a f*ck what people thought. Then he cared what others thought about him and his reputation and now the shows not even that funny anymore

    Howard made semi stars out of all the guys. Gange, Grillio, Stuttering Jon, KC and others. I thought they were all pretty funny and seemed to understand to show dynamic especially when Howard and the core group would goof on them. The story about Howard ending the relationship with the Howard Tv guys is kinda disappointing. If that is the way it happened I feel like Howard should have talk to them before dropping the bomb on the air. After Artie left and the show was evolving into a more PC climate I lost my taste for it and canceled my Sirius. Anyways love the old stern tapes on You Tube and these interviews with ex staff members.

    Howard kept the interns because it was cheap or free labor. Regardless of what their jobs were in the office, their real value was what they brought onto the air. They were characters on the show. Unpaid actors. They were at fault for that as well though. They weren’t paid and made no effort to leave.

    Say what you will of Howard and his staff. But he is the only radio performer where anyone ever even so much as reviewed their practices as it pertained to their staff, firings, etc. Never mind having dozens of different people trotted out to talk for an hour about it. Not to mention as a guy doing radio, you're not the sole arbiter of who stays, goes, gets promoted, etc. Either way, there's nothing to compare it to since Howard is apparently the only guy who is on the hook for life for all these people's occupational trajectories.
