    I was confused when the Blu guy said they targeted old divers that want to go back into the water … no real divers will go for that … and then he mentions SpareAir… 😣!!! Oh and nobody will mess with it 😆 Can’t wait for your review of the Halcyon Legend Wing … I’m not sold yet … even if I can get it customized.

    So the best things on BOOT for a GUE diver…. A beautiful camper, a boat cleaning tool, and halcyon fixing a problem that doesn’t exist :)

    • @DoktorBEN
      @DoktorBEN  Год назад +1

      Well…I’ve hoped for more innovative things. But unfortunately, many manufacturers are apparently out of the game and didn’t even show up at all…. Oh and at least, the problem Halcyon tried to fix is very real. One may discuss the solution, but the problem is there.

      @@DoktorBEN I have to use a tail weight to stay trim so I have the heavy head problem. Will the Legend help me eliminate the tail weight or at least reduce it some?

    Hmmm i use a 2 lb tail weight to be trim.. will this help?
    And the cutouts… what if i cutout my wing? To let thru the spg?

    • @DoktorBEN
      @DoktorBEN  3 месяца назад +1

      That might help. You can try, but maybe it doesn’t fit well if you cut it out yourself

  • @bradleykiller31
    @bradleykiller31 Год назад +1

    To be honest the story about the twinset being to topheavy is treu, however this is easily countered with a tailweight that wouldnt cost you more that 40 euro's maximum.
    Compare that with that halycon wing that would easy cost you a couple of hundred euro's.
    The problem with the hoses cutting into the wing is treu however i dive this way 4 or 5 years and my wing (Agir) doenst have damage or any isseus with bouyancy.
    Then the wing hitting the backside of the head i never ever seen or heard before.

    • @DoktorBEN
      @DoktorBEN  Год назад +1

      I like the idea with the cut-outs. It’s not the hoses would damage the wing…it just looks nicer…

  • @TheLoosenit2

    Halcyon sounded a little bit like they were pushing an equipment solution to a training issue....exact opposite of what GUE preaches.

    • @DoktorBEN
      @DoktorBEN  Год назад

      Yeah I thought that first, too. But I find the argument with the short backplate legit. Getting well fitted equipment is not equipment solution to skill problem. It‘s well fitting equipment. There are students I push to the Tecline Donut 22 SE - if they are truly feet heavy. And now there‘s a fitting wing for head heavy divers…

    • @TheLoosenit2
      @TheLoosenit2 Год назад +3

      I’m not entirely sure I’m on board with you. One of the simplest solutions to being head or feet heavy is to move the tanks up or down relative to the divers body. With my backplates this is easy, I have 3 different top placement holes to choose from. Halcyon backplates do not have this, only one placement. So in order to compensate they have developed a new wing. Simpler solution is to drill a few new holes in a backplate and adjust center of gravity, not buy a new wing. At the very least a new backplate costs 100 dollars vs 500 for a new wing.

    • @DoktorBEN
      @DoktorBEN  Год назад +2

      Even simpler…make the shoulder straps longer and the crotch strap shorter…anyway…besides the shape I like the cutouts!

    • @TheLoosenit2
      @TheLoosenit2 Год назад +2

      We agree then, equipment solution to a training problem. And the cutouts aren’t anything a pair of scissors or a sharp knife would not fix.

    • @DoktorBEN
      @DoktorBEN  Год назад

      Well…where to draw the line? Is getting a fitting dry suit over a sh**ty one an equipment solution to a skill problem (because one can dive with that dry suit)? Means having skill to dive always with the worst possible equipment? I understand your argument, but there’s a difference between a wing with more lift in the upper part and an automatic buoyancy control device…

  • @lingen2193
    @lingen2193 Год назад +2

    I see absolutely no use for that surface supply thingy.
    It's obviously useless and too dangerous for real diving (no redundancy, no buoyancy compensation, ...). And for boat inspection/repair: An old BC jacket with a 7l tank and OC reg will do the job cheaper, more reliable and probably much safer. Of course you need to be certified open water diver to get your tank filled at most dive shops. But as you said: Nobody should dive SCUBA or with a surface supplied breathing apparatus without at least some days of practical training.

    • @DoktorBEN
      @DoktorBEN  Год назад

      Quite frankly…nobody ever ask me my certificate. Not even for Trimix fillings, not to speak about air fillings…yeah it‘s a gimmick for the boat owner who already has it all :)

    Honestly, there comes a point where “if there’s smoke there’s fire”. The relationship between Halcyon and GUE makes me uncomfortable.
    It’s my biggest hurdle to GUE, being peddled a brand in any way shape or form, and I can no longer just tell myself that it’s a myth that GUE pushes Halcyon.
    GUE should have ONE relationship with products and manufacturers, to promote the best product at all times, with no regard AT ALL to manufacturers.

    • @DoktorBEN
      @DoktorBEN  Год назад

      GUE does and so do I as GUE instructor. One side of the booth was GUE, one was Halcyon 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @christopherthomas8722
      @christopherthomas8722 Год назад +2

      @@DoktorBEN so you’re saying that GUE and it’s instructors push Halcyon equipment?

    • @DoktorBEN
      @DoktorBEN  Год назад +2

      No, I’m not. There are instructors who either work for Halcyon or own dive shops and sell Halcyon equipment. They for sure push Halcyon - not because they are GUE instructors but Halcyon employees or retailers. And there are GUE instructors (like me), who have nothing to do with Halcyon besides owning equipment eventually. These instructors are not pushing Halcyon particularly. In turn, I show Halcyon alternatives regularly on the channel.

    • @christopherthomas8722
      @christopherthomas8722 Год назад +2

      @@DoktorBEN it’s interesting how you worded that. You show Halcyon “alternatives”. At least with what you said it could appear that Halcyon is the assumption, but you give “alternatives”.
      Sorry I don’t mean to criticize.
      I really do want to be a part of GUE but the amount of restrictiveness added to the Halcyon thing would start me out of uncomfortable footing.

    • @DoktorBEN
      @DoktorBEN  Год назад

      Well…you threw the “GUE divers only Halcyon”-hat in the ring. And quite frankly…Halcyon was the assumption for many years before other brands came into the market and they’re still developing equipment. That’s where the wording came from. There’s no obligation to use a specific brand - the standards define properties of the equipment but not more. I personally use for my OC setup no Halcyon equipment at the moment. For my CCR setup I use Halcyon equipment, just because there is basically nothing else available for the config I dive.
