Build quality is really good! It feels solid and there’s no creaky/flimsy feeling parts like the msi gs65. The keyboard is well spaced and the RGB is powered by Corsair so no complains there. It has gsync and the screen is really good

Good job :) If you have g-sync enabled you can often undervolt cpu cache a bit more than core, on my setups I have a 30-40mv higher undervolt on cache, helped achieve a 2-3C degrees lower temp :) Have you tried undervolting GPU with Afterburner? Would be interesting to see how high you could get it with a flat line or at low voltages and how it would impact performance\temps. Another reviewer tried with flat line at 1320MHz@700mv, temps seemed up to 5C lower and performance about the same but did very little testing with this, however, same GPU can differ big time between to laptops :)
Love this laptop same specs as you my undervolt is -128 and couple other tweaks and cpu runs about the same as yours my gpu runs around 76 74 consistently when play max settings on modern warfare with rtx on but very good laptop did you do anything to your gpu or did you leave it stock
nour ahmed i downloded throttlestop and watched a bunch of videos on youtube about throttlestop i started my undervolt at -125mv and I actually have mine at -146 now and runs the same i cant get it below 76c but its good i did have a problem where for some reason lenovo used Aluminium screws to hold down the heatsink where the gpu and cpu are so it shorted out my motherboard cause it melted to it amd the tech couldnt get it off so they sent me my laptop back with a new MB
Hello. I recently got mine but the left fan just doesn't do anything, not even under stress test. I figured out that the left fan is supposed to cool the GPU down. As expected the temps during gaming (nothing fancy, GTA IV) went through the roof hitting 90 Celsius. Is that normal or should I send it back for a replacement? Thanks

Undervolting lowers power consumption by a small amount in return lowering the heat production by the processor. In conjunction with high fan settings and a well cooled room the computer doesn’t throttle so your FPS don’t fall from overheating

For me the fan noise in this video is quite awesome. I tried the Razer Blade 2070 which notebookcheck gives over 88% in emissions. But the fan noise was horrorble super loud and high pitched. At the Y740 would you say the fan noise is "flat" or also high pitch / high frequent? You wrote this is loud, if you sit in front of the laptop with normal gaming headphones and there is a scene without much sound (like when your listening to foot steps in a shooter) would you say this laptop totally will kill your gaming experience? Asking for fan noise on a gaming notebook is quite stupid i know. But im sure this one could be the first which fits to me. :-) Thank you!
It’s flat and the speakers ok the laptop will cancel them out. The Razer Blade fans are annoying compared to the Y740. And honestly you don’t even need to turn on max fans because the thermals are excellent
In germany there is currently no 20% off, but if the product is like i want i would pay 2700 € like for the blade.. Also the blade fans in normal usage - youtube, writing emails were nearly never off. What i red so far is that the Y740 could last quite long with optimus in a passive silent mode.

Mr V the fans still get up to 60-80% speed just because the processor will start to get into the mid to high 80s with it being in auto. I didn’t notice any drop in performance. I’ll do some more testing this weekend

Thanks for your reply. I've been using the y740 for 5 days now and rendering for a 5min 4k quality video takes about 11 mins to render. And Playback is slow/laggy unless I use proxy files first and before rendering use the full quality again. Gaming performance is pretty good though..

ms is not important, that is just from grey to grey, more important is the input lag, many IPS panels with 4ms are faster than TN panels with 1ms, don't look at the ms, that's just marketing!

9zetsu it is in the area 51m because of the power available to. The 2070MQ reaches 1700Mhz-1800Mhz when OC’d and ends up just under the normal laptop 2070. The gen is strange because it relies so much on thermals, vbios and other small things to get actual performance out of these gpus

I get it that RTX laptops are crazy expensive but if you have the budget to go for 2060 then why not? For the performance is very similar with 1070 with raytracing capabilities! Your Lenovo y740 have quite stable thermals. How much you have undervolted to get this stable performance and temperature.

No issues so far! Probably one of the easiest to set up and undervolting takes about 5 mins to do.

ratracer 11 minutes is actually really good, the laggy playback is to be expected, that could also be fixed with a RAM upgrade 👌🏻

Depends on what games you plan on paying and if this is your only computer
2060 is more powerful than 2070 maxQ.
It's a 2070 MaxQ. You won't be seeing much of a performance gain. Go for the 2060 (which is Non-MaxQ) as its better and you can save cash too.
10%+ performance gains and even more for games that demand rtx performance or video memory

Msi Afteburner got bugged in Odyssey. It showed 1900 MHZ frequency on GPU. Which isn't possible even in Desktop card.

The frequency is correct but the difference is the amount of wattage fed to the card vs a desktop card.

The area 51m is about 5-10% slower than the full size desktop cards. They have higher wattage

RTX 2060 has a performance near of a GTX 1070 TI if overclocked. Personally, I don't think thermals will be an issue with this laptop(y740).
