Xenoblade X is definitely my most anticipated RPG of next year, followed by the Dragon Quest I/II HD-2D Remaster! Saying that though, if we get a Final Fantasy XII Trilogy remaster as the rumors suggest or something new from Atlus, I'll probably be there day one as well. ^_^ Thanks for putting Tales of Graces F and Threads of Time back on my radar! Wishlisting them now. :)
Threads of Time immediately caught my eye. Funnily enough I found out about it through Instagram ads (which usually show me stuff idgaf about). Also Tales of Graces F is asking me to play it for a long time and next year I will make time for it. Thank you for this list of games and I wish you Happy Holidays!
Great List! The Lunar 90’s anime nostalgia is real! Reminds me of waking every Saturday morning to the sci-fi channels featured film/show. I’m still holding out for DecaPolice…where are you!?!
Grandia was made by the people who made Lunar, so yes, you hit the nail on the head. Much like the grandia series, I prefer the second Lunar but they are both a fun time.
@ Eternal Blue usually isn’t held as high up as Silver Star, but I do like them both, I just prefer Eternal Blue. You are going to have a great time. Also check out Fantasian: Neo Dimension, totally off topic, but your love for FF9 makes me think you would enjoy it. Our backlogs are ever growing, cheers.
They’re great. I paused Infinite Wealth cause I don’t like how they’re writing Ichiban. It seems like he’s not as street smart as in Like A Dragon but I’m gonna finish the game after I beat Fantasian
I can't really say why, but the Lunar games are amazing. The cast is likable, the gameplay is very straight forward, the story progresses well, the pixel & hand-drawn animations are smooth, and the music is pretty good. There really isn't any aspect of the games that are particularly defining, but as a total package they are exceedingly enjoyable. Oh, and good luck collecting all of the Bromides!
Thanks on putting this list together Pelvic. I have slowly been getting myself into jrps through this year alone. Starting with Harvstella which I have yet to finish, Sea of Stars which I abosutley loved, the rune factory series. Its just a hard genre for me to get sunk into. I loved my time with that PS vita title and extied for it to be making it's comeback. I'm interested now with Threads of time, as well with freedom wars which i loved as well on the vita.
Thank you for mentioning "Kingdoms of the Dump"! I've never heard of it before now, and it feels just like my jam! Also, looking forward to the Suikoden and Lunar remasters, as well as "Tales of Graces f". Never played "Graces" or Suikoden, so I look forward to experiencing those worlds for myself!
Sigh...my wallet about to be gone 😂 Looking forward to a lot of these games and more Glad you made this btw You've been doing great with these videos 🙌🙏
I want more than anything for Penny Blood to exist, the Shadow Hearts games sit behind only Persona as my favorite JRPGs of all time, but I will believe Penny Blood will actually get published only when I am booting it up and playing it.
@@WhatRyansReading I totally understand your concern and I heard they had some complications with the publishers, money and so on even after the crowd funding. I wish them the best of luck of course and hope for the planned 2025 release but I can see them delaying it for 2026 🥲
@@WhatRyansReading I heard they do have some issues with money, publishers... So I hope it releases in 2025 but I wouldn't be mad if they say sorry 2026, I just hope it releases at all, same goes for Armed Fantasia.
Chained Echoes is awesome. I beat the game this year and had fun the whole way through. I didnt beat the super bosses but I can do that once the DLC releases
I remember buying SEGA CD just to play Lunar. Back in the dark ages rpgs were scant in between big releases. I’m looking forward to see if it still holds up
Ys Oath in Felghana is my favorite Ys game and I have played them all. The gameplay, story, characters, music... All great. I just love the way it all comes together. I can't wait to replay it. Ys 6 is good but I think it has some issues with the final battle that make it not as good as Oath in Felghana.
Tales of Graces f, Suikoden 1+2 Remastered, Lunar 1+2 remastered, Trails Through Daybreak II, Like A Dragon, Yakuza Pirate, Xenoblade Chronicles X etc. We're eating damn good next year.
Oh Kingdoms of the Dump looks like a blast, thanks for the heads up about it! And Lunar is serving Grandia since it's what the Grandia devs made earlier. I really enjoyed the GBA version of Lunar as a kid and have spent this year having a blast chipping away at the original Grandia, so I'm definitely interested in that Lunar release. Hope they've touched up that notorious Working Designs localization job though... 😬
Soooo excited for “Trails the 1st”! And “Y’s: Oath in Felghana” was my first, and still favorite, “Y’s” game. “”Clair Obscure: Expedition 33” looks AWESOME!!! Like what I have wanted to Square Enix to give us in a AAA turn-based JRPG! (And what I thought “FF13” was originall going to be before I was horribly disappointed…”)
I always wanted to play Freedom Wars back in the day but didn't have a Vita. Definitely a must for me. Personally it gave some Monster Hunter vibes. God I'm also waiting on Wilds next year too. Already a good year for me.
I had to grab Freedom Wars via PlayAsia because they're only doing physical releases in Japan. Least it's a multi-language release as far as I found. It looked SUPER fun on Vita but I never owned one haha. Also I'm holding out hope for a Tales of the Abyss remaster a little bit more than Xillia though I'd take either. I guess the big one I'm holding out for is that Xenoblade X remaster. I know the game is HELLA flawed but I've got that ADHD brain where I need a gamified checklist and boy does Xenoblade X have the mother of all gamified checklists.
Lunar 1 and 2 are two of my favorite games. I think they capture a whimsical sense of adventure better than Grandia. The graphics and music are comforting too. Captures a 90s kind of feeling in a good way. I just hope that the localization is decent. I hope it isn't the case that some of the magic is lost without the working designs translation.
Things could change, but as of now 2025 doesn't look to have nearly as much as 2024. That's not a bad thing either as 2024 was stacked and I could use some time to catch up. Suikoden and Sky 1st Chapter will be day 1 purchases, and I'm beyond excited to play those three games again. Maybe I'll finally give Lunar a chance as well. If that is all 2025 brings my way I'm more than happy.
My most anticipated is probably whateverthehell Atlus is cooking up that hasn't been announced yet (though at the same time I'm hoping they don't release anything TOO soon as my poor backlog is still way too long).
can't wait to finally (legally) replay suikoden I&2, and also trails!!!! quite curious about threads of time, but I'm also kinddddd of waiting for them to finally put chrono trigger out on the switch so I can make everyone I know play it.
Atelier Yumia, Clair Obscur and Sky 1st Chapter are my top 3 most excited for right now but I'm also ready to dive into Lunar for the first time. I also plan on finally finishing Xenoblade Chronicles X.
Thank you for the suikoden shoutout. Absolutely a series the new generation (and even some jrpg vets) have yet to experience and should experience. Clear obscure looks like a more modern Last odyssey mixed with xenogears, the legend of dragoon, shadowheart and like a dragon 7 & 8 gameplay, if it makes sense. We’ve seen this typa of gameplay before. Just not as polished.
i wonder if ToGraces remastered has 30fps on switch for the entire game, or only outside of combat because at least on ps3, it was 60fps for combat and 30 for everything else; if they don't keep this, that's not very good...
I didn't even bother to finish Tales of Graces f. I was kind of burnt out on jrpgs at that time. I do regret selling it. I have every Tales of game from Legendia to Arise except for Graces f.
I've always thought the style of the wooden weapons (Tonfa) used by the main character in Suikoden 2 were very funny looking, which made me overlook the game (it looks like he unearthed someone's garden fence to make them). If there's a back story for those weapons in Suikoden 1 then I guess I wouldn't mind giving both games a chance. Sooooo... I'm guessing that little chibi game 'Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero' is chopped liver now?
"Always moving forward and no bull shit" isn't that sort of the axium of PS1 jrpgs in general? Why old games pacing just trumps modern rpgs in everyway possible.
I've given Ys a try twice and the series just isn't for me. The only Ys game that I want to play is Ys7 but that isn't on modern consoles. I prefer the trails series, Im waiting for trails through daybreak 2 which is coming out soon
Nearly 2025 and Pelvic is still saying the (absolutely) basic rock, paper, scissor war battles from Suikoden I were better than the strategic war battles from Suikoden 2. Everyone boo this opinion into oblivion.

Good list!
You got it right with Grandia. Lunar was made by the same developer before Grandia. Gungho seems to be fans.
Not me being 33 and watching this, hell naw, what did I do to be called out like that?!!
Hey. Me too.
lol! U hit my personal nerve there, bud 😅
I'm glad Kingdoms of the Dump is still happening. I learned about it years ago and hadn't seen any news.

The Lunar games have an amazing soundtrack. Coupled with the pixel art these games are pure old school charm.
Commenting to feed the algorithm. I love the videos! Great list! Thanks for making it 👏👏
I appreciate the support! Thanks for watching!
Expedition 33 looks gorgeous. It might be my most anticipated game of 2025.

Ooh, okay I definitely need to keep an eye on the Lunar Remasters, that 90s anime aesthetic is everything.
