Not jrpg's, but underrated rpg's that I enjoy are Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2, if you like Baldur's Gate and similar games, I highly recommend them, the story is good and the characters are great. And imo I think the companions in those games can give the BG3 companions a run for their money for how well written they are
A dude that has to run back to feed his girl before she turns into a monster. It seems my boyfriend has been playing Pandora's Tower in real life for while.
I desperately need Radiant Historia remastered on Switch. A few great games I never hear people talk about are • Lost Dimension • Arc the Lad II • Sword & Fairy 7 • Blue Reflection all bangers.
Great list! glad to see Wild Arms get some love! Yes, so agree on Radiant Historia! played it for the first time this year and it's now an all time favourite!
Rogue Galaxy is such an underrated game. Not only is it just a masterpiece, but it's one of the few Sci-Fi JRPGs that really feels like you're traveling a persistent galaxy and going on adventures. It's a war crime that we never got any sequels and installments. Or at the very least ports and remasters. Nobody knows about this sleeper.
I played the original Radiant Historia back on the DS and remember the game being really good. I wanna recommend Arc The Lad - Twilight Of The Spirit, so underrated
Glad someone else is pushing Arc The Lad! My favorite is the second game but Twilight of The Spirit is real close. Imo everyone should play all of them haha as they all are above average to great games. Except for End of Darkness which is a crappy genre shift that was awful.
hell yeah Radiant Historia! I have bought it twice and hope i get the chance to buy it again in the form of a Switch port. The most addictive battle system I've ever encountered.
I remember getting Parasite Eve when I was in middle school and being completely blown away by the opening. When I explained it to my friends at school the next day, they didn't believe me that it was a real game!

The more I learn about RPG's the more familiar I become with signature art styles for popular game series. I don't really fancy the tiny feet in Alliance Alive, but I find it more tolerable than the Chibi art style that gets all in my face, lol.
Grandia I seems to get all the love, but Grandia II is definitely my favorite (don’t even get me started on e-v-e-r-y-t-h-I-n-g Millenia brings to the table…) It was my favorite battle system until the Legend of Heroes games!
I have played all of these. All of them. I've only beaten a few, however, and they're all phenomenal picks. I will say that Pandora's Tower has a special place in my heart for being the single most stressful game I have ever played. The time mechanic had me chugging Pepto to deal with the stress ulcers that game caused. I still have it on my Wii U, but even thinking about playing it again makes my hair turn white. Great list, LP! Have a wonderful holiday season!
Wow this was the exact sort of video I needed right now and from one of my favourite youtubers! Great list I'm going to give The Alliance Alive a shot I'd never heard of it before. Also I liked the way you said the numbers that was fun!
The first Grandia is my favorite! Played it back in elementary school along with Legend of Mana and Wild Arms. I got Radiant Historia last year, but haven't got around to playing it yet.
hi lady pelvic. your previous video about the game awards -- the optimism you expressed moreso -- inspired me to be open-minded and start my first jrpg. i haven't been enjoying games lately, and i think it's because im forcing myself to play games in genres that don't resonate anymore. so, per this video, I [acquired] radiant historia for my 2ds (that admittedly i never use :[ ). this will be new for me; but, im just gonna play it and let it take me wherever it takes me. that's all. thanks.
These vids have been great to watch Keep up the good work Pelvic Also idk if you saw but apparently a remaster of a Trails vs Ys game is also coming Falcom fans are winning
Thank you for making this video. I gotta add most of these games to my backlog now because I never played any of them and now I'm genuinely interested in playing them.
I was impressed with your knowledge, played most of the games mentioned, a couple of your choices i thought were a bit weak but everyone likes different things, I just noticed u posted your playing legend of legaia now thats an amazing game enjoy!:)
I haven't played Live a Live yet... But between really enjoying the Kingdom Hearts OSTs and having recently really enjoyed the Octopath games, I'm really wanting to! Especially with it being so high up on your list. 🙂
Radiant Historia is one of the best games ever. Too bad the 3DS version was a GameStop exclusive or maybe it would get more love. Please port to Switch!
I fucking love Pandora's Tower. I remember one time I got lost in a tower trying to being Elena flesh and barely made it back. The cutscene I got for accidentally letting her turn that far into a beast at that point in the game - I legit felt upset for letting her down and for the things that resulted from that cutscene. It was amazing.
Thanks for bringing up Radiant Historia. People now look at Louis in Metaphor as Atlus' best antagonist, but I think people should pay attention to this one as the main antagonist IMO is probably on the same level as Louis.
Legend of Mana is probably one pf the best Co-Op RPGs ever. Also, the art and music are fantastic. I replayed it (solo) when it came out on Switch and still love it. Great list LP, enjoy the holidays!
Proud to say I own every game on this list. I haven't spent as much time playing all of them as I would like (though I have like 130+ hours in Rogue Galaxy... lol) but that just means I have a lot to look forward to :D
You having played all these more underrated RPGs but haven’t played FF7 og has blew my mind! It’s one of the most revolutionary and influential games ever and made JRPGs popular in the west, hope one day you play it!(love the list btw!)
FF7 didn't just make Jrpg popular in the west. It made RPGs popular in the west. Up until then, RPGs were by and large PC only affairs relegated to the back of gaming publications because of the mindset needed to get into those types of games.
Radiant historia was great on ds and the remake on 3ds is even better with all the update. If they someday port it to switch I'll buy it for a third time in an heartbeat.
Parasite Eve made learning science interesting to my 13-14 year old self. Even coming back to it years later, still felt like a breath of fresh air. And hell yeah, Yoko Shimomura. And boo to Third Birthday. Kill it with fire. This was a great list. I always enjoy going back to seeing your vids. What a journey.
Just started Wild arms a few days ago! It had been calling me from the psplus store. Great great stuff. The completion % on some of these trophies prove that not enough people have played it.
Finished both Grandia games on Switch over the last few years. G2’s port is ROUGH to the point I have a hard time recommending it, which is a shame. Great battle system and a very game voice cast. I hear the PC port lets you access the 4:3 version as seen in your video that is much more stable. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of your #2 game, looks fascinating.
Legend of Mana mentioned! This is my top 5 fav, I rented this soooo much back in the day After watching this, I've added more games to be to-be-played list
There is a good mix of third-party and indie RPGS that i haven't played yet. But one of them that stands out is Cris Tales, beautiful 2D art visuals, action command combat like Paper Mario, time travel mechanics that can also split and be used in different ways during combat and exploring to solve different solutions, there's choices to be made during the story that will affect and take place depending on what you choose. It's not the longest game and that's good. I really like it and i highly recommend it 😁.
Parasite Eve needed a true sequel that trimmed the fat off of the item drops you didn't need, refined the active combat system, and kept the Quiet Big City yet solo/isolation feeling in another location (Tokyo perhaps). It felt like PE 1 didn't make enough money vs production costs to build a PE2 from scratch (PE2 is a reworked RE clone they were planning and Third Birthday did Aya Brea's character dirty). At this point I just want a REEngine style remake of the first game.
How'd you end up playing all these less renowned RPGs while missing out on FF7? It's not a question of merit so much as it is my being surprised that it's taken so long to fall into your orbit.
@1DangerMouse1 It definitely fell off after 10, but seeing someone say "I've played tons of RPGs but never played FF7" is like seeing them say "I had a Genesis and never played Phantasy Star 4."
@1DangerMouse1 To you perhaps, it’s certainly mainstream. But it’s larger budget and on a grander scale than most of its competitors. There is a reason why the top critically acclaimed games are the top ones. You’re free to prefer whatever though 😊
That's the same way I found out about it. Heard him sing its praises and bought it the next day. It was the only game I played until it was completed. Bought it again for the 3ds.
What a great video! I’v played most of these games but you have definitely talked me into playing Legend of Mana. That’s one I just never tried for some reason. I have a great one for you to try called “The Last Story” on the Wii. It’s AMAZING! It has such a great story and super fun combat.
Answering the video title with my personal history of your list; 10. Legend of Mana - played original Trials once, Secret countless times, but yet to play Legend despite owning a copy. 9. Y's: Memories of Celcetta - yet to play any Ys game though hear they're good. 8. Grandia I & II HD Remaster - played both originals, loved them, might get remaster on sale. 7. Wild Arms - completed the original, forgotten more than I can remember sadly. 6. Parasite Eve - apparently a classic, not played. 5. Rogue Galaxy - not played, looks cool though. 4. LiveAlive - bought the remake but yet to play (backlog problems). 3. Alliance Alive - not even heard of that one before. 2. Pandora's Tower - was far too rare and expensive to obtain but I heard good things. 1. Radiant Historia - well now I wanna play this one too.
@@PelvicGaming Girl, get onto Suikoden V! The loading times are a pain and it starts off VERY slow, but its still the silver medalist of the whole Suikoden saga
Well...Grandia 2 was my first ever JRPG and also the first ever game I played in English and not my native language, and I own BOTH versions of Radiant Historia (with the DS version being imported from the US since that version never released over here in Europe - and thank the heavens for the DS not being region locked). Both games also count among my top JRPGS of all time (including Golden Sun which could also well have made the list here), with Grandia 2 still being the JRPGS with the best turn-based combat system I've ever experienced.
For those of you who like trpg, try Vanguard Bandits. It's a mix of Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem with medieval mechas,3 different paths, different endings, humour and dark themes in equal measure.
Amazing list, i love Pandora's Tower. This game has a unique visual style that only Nintendo Wii games had, and i love it. Also, i personally would put Koudelka and Shadow Hearts on this list, Shadow Hearts Covenant is one of the best games i ever played in my life, and they are such underrated gems.
damn, nice list. actually haven't played some of these. Celcetta, Parasite Eve, and Live A Live are the ones I have and they were all awesome so I'll be starting Grandia soon on your rec.
Man there's very few times where I can talk about basically every game/series in a list like this. 10: I feel bad because I somehow seem to be the only person who can't get into the Mana series. I see the positives, but they just aren't good enough for me. 9: Basically all Ys games are pretty high quality in some way or form, but Memories of Celceta is pretty great and definitely in my top 3 Falcom games. Ys X actually knocked Trails in the Sky off that top 3. 8: I love Grandia 1 and 2 both but I need to find the motivation to dig into Grandia 3 if only for the morbid curiosity. 7: Even at its worst I've always liked the Wild Arms games. They just have a great aesthetic in every single one and they do just enough different to not feel like stale Final Fantasy Clones. 6: Parasite Eve is probably the only game I never tried because I can't do horror, even though (again) I can recognize the positives to the series. 5: YEAAAAAH ROGUE GALAXY REPRESENTATION!!!!! 4: Live A Live was a definite shock to see the remaster announced and it honestly still holds up today. I just hope we can see more games like it someday. 3: YEAAAAAH ALLIANCE ALIVE REPRESENTATION!!!!! 2: Operation Rainfall really did give us some of the more unique RPGs of that era didn't it? I love Xenoblade to death but I still wish some of the others from that time had gotten full series out of it. 1: I'm still EXTREMELY glad I jumped on a physical copy of Radiant Historia on 3DS. It's a nice little nest egg for if I ever really need cash but also it's a damn fine game in its own right. Anyways ramble over, great list!
@@massdefection 2. The Last Story is one of my favorite games of all time. Thank you, Operation Rainfall, for bringing use a weird, glitchy, and poorly optimized game with incredible mechanics and writing that still make it worth playing.
6. Friend. Let me tell you. I am the biggest chicken shit you'll ever meet. You can do Parasite Eve. Idk if jumpscares keep you away. The only time I jumped was in the very beginning when a door closes REALLY loudly. If it's gore that's not your thing, just... casually look away during the CGI cut scenes. Haha. But it's SOOOOOOOOO good!!!! 3. I LOVE Alliance Alive and I really wanted a reason to talk about it so...HERE IT IS!!
@@PelvicGaming Alliance Alive is so underrated. I really need to grab Legend of Legacy to see how that is too since it's the precursor to Alliance. I heard its story is laid out differently but the combat is mostly the same.
Iv beaten every single game you listed other than alliance alive which is on my backlog and yea technically iv beaten the orignal SNES version of Live A live but not the remake. Despite not being a strictly JRPG guy i think iv played most of the JRPGs that can be considered good. Even some obscure ones like Koduelka, Stella Deus, Panzer dragon saga or the Growlancer series.
legend of mana, what a great choice, it doesn't get enough attention honestly, it's full of systems places stories and characters, awesome music, it just gets ignored because it doesn't have a drama filled mega story like most rpgs.
LiveALive was a great game, background music was great the visuals popped, each character having different gameplay mechanics was also an added bonus and it made the game feel like a new experience each time. I was also shocked how they conveyed horror in a game like this while delivering a story like that.
Pandora's Tower is certainly a game that hardly anyone brings up especially out of the 3 Operation Rainfall games. I own & played the game myself & I liked it.
8:51 HECK YEAH! I I only got into this game thanks to the PS4 adding it to the online store, I remember having a blast. But i did put it on hold around 50 hours in, and that was a few years ago, i really need to get back and finish it, but its so difficult with arpgs like it
I've been championing Radiant Historia for years! Hope enough people snatched it for 5 dollars on the 3DS eshop, because it was constantly on sale for that final year before the shutdown. I've only played the DS original version, but I've heard good things about the remake.
Ys Memories of Celceta is my entry into Falcom world too & it's one of my favorites, especially the battle, music & world, even the story was charming. Radiant Historia is among my most beloved RPGs, I still think we might get a port for the Switch 🙏🏼
@@BLAZER_VA More like remade. It have fan translation which should suffice, but the game itself haven't aged well (especially combat wise, as it wasn't developed by Nihon Falcom and it's another departure from bump system although not as bad as Wanderers from Ys).

If g4 was still around, this girl would 199% be hired as a host
It was a moment in time. New G4 was so pathetic that all who were involved are now cursed.
Moral of the story: if Yoko Shimomura composed music for it, it’s going to be a fantastic game 😎
I'm glad you understood the lesson.
Some people say Reynatis is the exception of the rule.
Hell yea love me some Shimomura I have a huge crush on her 😅
The thumbnail was an instaclick. Radiant historia is probably my favorite jrpg of all time
It's one of my favorite 3ds games. A shame it's stuck on there.
@PelvicGaming yeah I agree
Yo lo tengo traducido al español, pero mi nintendo 2ds lleva tiempo cogiendo polvo. Juego pendiente.
Probably the best 3DS RPG
I did like it, but I have no idea how anybody could play it without following a guide. Unless you're cool with missing like half the game.

Dragon Force on the Sega Saturn is still the absolute best RPG I've ever played, and almost NOBODY has heard of or played it.
I’ve heard of it but went the way of N64 and skipped the Saturn (had a Genesis). I followed the system closely though…
I think wild arms 1,2 and 3 are all FABULOUS
Loved WildArms3 riding on horse back over the plains was so much fun and the battle music is still memorable 😎
All the wild arms games are special to me. I even liked XF, broken mess that it was.
I'm literally having a nostalgia event right now..... gonna find and play them all when I'm done with poe 2 beta
Yo wild arms 3 was so good. I still remember being blown away by the fact that when you load a save you get a nice FMV on the story so far.
Great list and Rogue Galaxy is available digitally on PS4/5 if anyone wants to play it easily
it's also cheap physically on ps2
There is a Grandia 3 folks, it exists and it's not a bad game, I swear, I'm not lying.
It’s a bad game lol

Final Fantasy is overrated
@1DangerMouse1 It definitely fell off after 10, but seeing someone say "I've played tons of RPGs but never played FF7" is like seeing them say "I had a Genesis and never played Phantasy Star 4."
@1DangerMouse1 To you perhaps, it’s certainly mainstream. But it’s larger budget and on a grander scale than most of its competitors. There is a reason why the top critically acclaimed games are the top ones. You’re free to prefer whatever though 😊
Radiant Historia forever GOATed. Shout outs to HCBailly for without his original 2011 LP i'd have never known of this MASTERPIECE
Nice to see Pandora's Tower getting some more love. Another obscure Wii RPG that worth checking out, is The Last Story.
Ayyy!! One of us!! :D You also as fine tastes, sir~
Radiant Historia is definitely a game I'd love to see remade. It is such a good game and the music is fantastic.
I played grandia 1 and 2 for the first time this year, and i was impressed by how great the combat is. Amazing games
Here to support my fave jrpg story of all time. Which is Not perfect chronology. We deserve a sequel!
I havent heard anyone talk about pandora's tower in like a decade! Definitely an overlooked gem.
Answering the video title with my personal history of your list;
Radiant Historia all the way!
I steered clear of Final Fantasy VII myself because of hype aversion! Here's hoping for a remake/remaster for Rogue Galaxy and Radiant Historia!
It's not even that, there's just other games I wanna play more! :D Also I'd LOVE a Radiant Historia remake omgggg
@@PelvicGaming Girl, get onto Suikoden V! The loading times are a pain and it starts off VERY slow, but its still the silver medalist of the whole Suikoden saga
Rogue Galaxy is available for PS5 and PS4
De los Ys solo me he terminado el Oath in Felghana.
Pd: las imágenes de Grandia del video ¿son emulación? Se ve muy bonito.
Grandia remaster is on PlayStation and Switch
I always recommend Phantasy Star IV, it is the perfect 16 bit RPG
Amazing list, i love Pandora's Tower. This game has a unique visual style that only Nintendo Wii games had, and i love it.
Also, i personally would put Koudelka and Shadow Hearts on this list, Shadow Hearts Covenant is one of the best games i ever played in my life, and they are such underrated gems.
damn, nice list. actually haven't played some of these. Celcetta, Parasite Eve, and Live A Live are the ones I have and they were all awesome so I'll be starting Grandia soon on your rec.
Oh my god yes please go play Parasite Eve if you haven’t. So much fun and that soundtrack slaps
Geeze the moment I heard the Grandia 2 battle music it really took me back
Thank you for this amazing list!! 🎉
Radiant Historia should be ported to pc
Legend of Mana is food for the soul.
The Legend of Mana has the most creative in-game difficulty selection:
"Wish to have a nightmare?
No
Wish to have a future?
No
NO FUTURE MODE"
Iv beaten every single game you listed other than alliance alive which is on my backlog and yea technically iv beaten the orignal SNES version of Live A live but not the remake.
Despite not being a strictly JRPG guy i think iv played most of the JRPGs that can be considered good.
Even some obscure ones like Koduelka, Stella Deus, Panzer dragon saga or the Growlancer series.
Pandora's Tower and Last Story are still 2 games i wanna buy for the Wii (even having both Wii and Wii U hacked)
I'm pretty sure I own both myself... now you got me second guessing. I can't imagine me buying them digitally xP
legend of mana, what a great choice, it doesn't get enough attention honestly, it's full of systems places stories and characters, awesome music, it just gets ignored because it doesn't have a drama filled mega story like most rpgs.
LiveALive was a great game, background music was great the visuals popped, each character having different gameplay mechanics was also an added bonus and it made the game feel like a new experience each time. I was also shocked how they conveyed horror in a game like this while delivering a story like that.
11:58 Devil Survivor does something very similar, highly recommended!
Pandora's Tower is certainly a game that hardly anyone brings up especially out of the 3 Operation Rainfall games. I own & played the game myself & I liked it.
Right??? More folks need to know!
Excellent list. Stellar taste.
I've only played the DS original version, but I've heard good things about the remake.
i grew up watching my brother played wild arms, the wild arm open world's bgm definitely still memorable and a vibe
Yes, to this DAY.
Ys Memories of Celceta is my entry into Falcom world too & it's one of my favorites, especially the battle, music & world, even the story was charming.
Radiant Historia is among my most beloved RPGs, I still think we might get a port for the Switch 🙏🏼
Played Secret of Mana first and yet Legend is just truly the best of the series. What a fun game, enjoyed co-oping with my brother.
Celceta was my first Ys game too and I love it.
Twins~!
After seeing the first 3 games i knew this girl would've been my homie growing up. Great taste
No one talks about Legend of mana enough!!! It was a main staple on PS1 for me when it came out, and I had a blast with the remaster!
Love to hear it!!
If you're interested in a very well written indie RPG that not enough people have played, I highly recommend In Stars and Time
Ys games is such gem
Oath in Felghana is lookin' pretty great too...
@@PelvicGaming indeed
@@PelvicGaming I just hope one day the Ys 5 will get localize
@@BLAZER_VA More like remade. It have fan translation which should suffice, but the game itself haven't aged well (especially combat wise, as it wasn't developed by Nihon Falcom and it's another departure from bump system although not as bad as Wanderers from Ys).
awesome list!
