I’ve had mine for two years, now. I love the “non distraction” writing experience of the Remarkable 2. Something about writing my thoughts out that I go to it when I really need to think through my thought processes.

The Remarkable is an alternative for pen/pencil and paper, not an iPad. That's a good thing (in my opinion) as there are many advantages for content creation and memorisation when it come to pen and paper. Many times I have typed a document of several thousand words only to remember very little of it later. Digital devices are wonderful for editing and production, but far too distracting for many people when it comes to content creation.

I have the RM2, the Scribe, iPads and MacAir. Too many devices but that is another issue. If I really want to focus on writing, my personal best option is a good word app on the iPad or the Mac, combined with noise cancelling headphones. I bought the e-ink devices for work, where I have to do a fair amount of note taking. The paper used to mount up, so the e-ink tablets have helped enormously with that. I also use the iPad’s with the Apple Pencil 2 for note taking. They work fine but the e-ink tablets have a long battery life that reaches into days and weeks. Eventually all the notes get moved to Apple notes. As for the RM2 or the Scribe, there are days I reach for one and other days when I reach for the other. The Scribe’s software has been improved over the past several months and I do prefer the front lit screen. I think it is a better hardware device overall. I also have the RM TypeFolio, which is a brilliantly designed keyboard and case. It works well but the software has a long way to go. By the way, pen and paper still has its place and scanning the pages is as easy as it can be these days. I am not sure I have helped anyone here, except to say that if your budget is limited, buy a laptop or an iPad and Apple Pencil 2 first, together pen and paper if you like writing in long hand. Get a good pair of noise cancelling headphones, as well. As the budget or specific need grows, add an e-ink tablet. RM2 and Scribe are both good choices, in my experience.

I've had my remarkable for almost 3 years. I love that there is no light shining in your face. Its distraction free. I have the type folio and I love it. To sync it takes less than 5 seconds. The type folio is not for everyone as some people think its just like a normal keyboard. Its not like the keyboard on your laptop. There are shortcuts on it that I use daily. Battery lasts longer on remarkable as you don't have to charge it everyday like you have to with an ipad. Depending on the usage I usually only charge once a week or sometimes every two weeks.

You're all probably gonna think I'm crazy but I bought a Tab s8 a while back and I put a specific paperfeel screen protector on it. I've been using it to take notes for quite some time now and I got used to it and now I really like it. I can turn on either focus mode or do not disturb mode but to be honest I don't always need to be in distraction free mode. The note app I use almost replicates the Remarkable experience perfectly with nearly every feature. But I do like that I can add color or color highlights to my notes on my tab s8. But to be fair I gave the Remarkable a shot. To be honest I just didn't feel like I was using it any differently than my Tab s8. It just seemed like I was carrying another device around but doing the same thing and spending another $350. So I ended up sending it back. I see the appeal for some but it just not needed for my use case

I tried the Remarkable and returned it. It's too locked down. I do enjoy my Onyx Boox Air2. Better value IMO… even if the syncing is less elegant, it's still free. Even the accessories for the R1 are absurdly overpriced. And the battery life was awful compared to the Air2, which runs full-on Android and has a better built-in notes taking app. And I turn almost all of the Android stuff like notifications off, but it's nice having the Play Store for productivity apps.

I was really excited when they announced the Remarkable tablet. Then they came out with it and revealed the price. I'm not making money with this so that's a big chunk of money. And not only is the tablet $300 but they don't even give you a stylus. You have to buy that separately. And it's either $80 or $125. That's when it totally lost me.

For a month, I agonized over getting an iPad mini, the Supernote A6x (slightly smaller than the iPad), or just sticking with my Moleskine Smart Writing setup. I talked myself out of the Supernote because the iPad could sync notes on GoodNotes to my IPad Pro and Mac. But the Supernote just seemed so appealing, and I figured I’d never know if I didn’t try it. One month later, I am in love with my Supernote. Light. Small and portable.
I feel Chris glossed over a lot cons with the Remarkable 2 and maybe could have said a little on what features the Scribe leaves him desiring - though I can guess because the device is still pushing tons major features via software updates.
Anyway, for me the A6x is the perfect size for me. The battery lasts since it is e-ink, and hey, you can even read Kindle books on it. I think any relatively new e-ink device in a small form factor will fit your needs. I was genuinely surprised with e-ink and the writing experience of the Supernote.

There are a few reasons I just wouldn’t buy it.
Price; $279 - Do expensive for such a single focus device
I’m not proud of this, but I’ve used computers, iPads and iPhones for so long that my handwriting is child-like now. And when I do write I apply so much pressure my hand hurts in as little as 10 minutes.
No backlight? I dig the simplicity of this device, but without a backlight I’m stuck using it in daylight or artificial light.
    Refresh seems slow.
Again, the price. Seriously, if it was a $99 tablet I’d pick one up just to practice my handwriting. But at $279? Too much is lacking.
