Great song. There use to be an elderly lady worked in cafeteria at the factory I worked. She was Mrs. Jones and I'd sing this to her off key terribly but she always got the biggest smile.
Early 70s, sound of philly! Gamble and Huff! Some of the greatest music ever made! Production and arrangements were so good. Stylistics, Harold Melvin and blue notes, Teddy P, O Jays, Spinners, Billy Paul, 3 Degrees, MFSB, insane the amount of talent and masterful music they produced
Does it matter if you're white or black? I grew up in the 60's and my brother played nothing but Motown, Stax and Atlantic, I listen to nothing other than soul R&B.
Another great singer from my hometown of Philadelphia! Must be something in the, as we say in Philadelphia, 'wooder'. That's water to you Ty lol! You take care and stay safe!
Billy Paul was part of that TSOP or Philly soul era back in the 70s..some of the best soul to every come along. Many notable artists came out of Philly. My dad's favorite!!
Wow takes me back to beauty school going to disco dances every weekend everyone slow danced to this every time even still at weddings today they still all slow dance to this tnks for this one
I was going around singing this song when I was 4. Didn't have a clue what it was about, but loved the song anyway. Turn right around and dancing to James Brown and Three Dog Night and Black Sabbath. I've always loved different types of music.
And right on schedule at 2:06, there goes the hair being scratched out. 😁 I wish you would do more of them like this. I sure wasn't aware of it at that time, being only 5, and of course being white, and black music not being any part of my upbringing (I mean at ALL), but that period from the mid-60s to the mid-70s, and especially late 60s to early 70s...that right there, was the absolute crown jewels of western music, especially in R&B and rock.
Being from Chicago I watched soul train every Saturday ...I was ten and I loved this song ...still play this in the car when I cruise with the wife ...excellent choice in videos ...great choice
I was in the 2nd grade and I remember this song so well on Soul Train (I was the youngest of 6 kids so my brothers/sisters turned me on to all kinds of music)
Thanks for a good old flashback! I start soul train every week and American bandstand. I wish they had real music shows like that. there is a radio station here in Colorado that plays Casey Kasem top 40 flashbacks every Sunday night. Thanks for the memories
If he does this, I hope he uses the clip that has both of the stories. The 2nd story is the only time that he was able to get Vicki to break character, I think.
This song was on the charts during the best carefree days in my life. So much GREAT music. I was between still being a little girl/teen. Great memories.
That song was released in 1972........I was in the 9th grade and I hated that song. Not sure what happened, but the song slowly grew on me and now it is one of my all time favorites. Man, Billy Paul's voice............INTOXICATING! This song was a #1 hit single and is what Paul Williams (His real name) was best known for. TY Billy Paul for leaving us this masterpeice. Billy Paul passed in April of 2016. Thanks for reacting to this song.
Dave Mason- we just disagree Climax blues band- couldn't get it right Climax blues band- i love you Bobby gentry- ode to billy joe Dusty Springfield- son of a preacher man Bee gees- to love somebody Cliff Richard- devil woman Badfinger- day after day Badfinger- baby blue Anything by ELO or Supertramp
YEARS ago, I was doing a ride along with a black police officer. Came down this street and saw two cars parked close together. Anyway, the officer looked at me and said "this is a me and mrs jones situation." He said they do that on a regular basis. I thought that was so funny! And, I and my mom always watched soul train right after American bandstand. Sweet memories for sure. Thanks for doing this song. Enjoyed hearing it again.
It was his only major Hit Record but it has stood the test of time. It was actually inspired by a Judge who was involved with a Younger Woman. In The UK he would sing it and the fans loved it as well. In the UK The Music Of Motown & Philly Soul is just as popular. Over the Years it's been featured on UK Soap Operas like The Doctors and EastEnders as well as the UK Version of The Office Boy Bands have covered Philly Soul Songs and they are so popular that somewhere in the world a Song by Kenny Gamble/Leon Huff is being played every Six Minutes.
I am so glad I grew up during this era. The Temps, Tops, Spinners, Smokey, all the greats. Ain't no school like old school. And this my friends, is old school Motown. For some reason, the station I would listen to would play this then "Kiss and say goodbye". Think they were trying to tell us something?
Oh lord this carries me way back lol. My two favorite shows back then was soul train and the midnight special 💖 back when music was real. Boy do miss those days.
Former #1 Soul & #1 Pop from 1972, a one hit wonder on the pop chart but a really big hit for Billy Paul. Made his career. A similar situation happened with Roger Whittaker around the same time frame with his hit called The Last Farewell. Another really good song but you have to search to get the single version. The album version sounds totally different but his own cover of the song was the surprise hit.
One of the most felt songs of my childhood, even though I was only a little ready to understand it. But when that AAA AAA AAA AAAAAND MRS. ... MRS. JOOOONES ... came along, I was convinced of all the emotion and got the gist. I was surprised people weren't talking about this song all the time, but I think it was too risque for its times. Everybody who might have wanted to talk about it was scared to. I thought I was the only one who liked it. But since I've never seen anybody else do it, I'll confess otherwise now. I loved it! As a kid, and then young adult, and now and forever.
Walked into a fast food place one time and started humming this. The girl at the counter recognized it and sang a little and the two of us broke into an impromptu duet of the first verse. Smiles
Try and find music today that can compete with this smooth sound. This for sitting in front of a fireplace with a glass of wine with someone you love. Great song Ty. Thanks for playing it.
There is no one out there that can not say the seventies was not the best era in music ever. We had soul we had rock and roll.It was the best of both Worlds. I graduated from high school back in 1976.Greatest music ever there is no doubt in my mind.
This one brought back a lot of good memories. In my opinion shows like Soultrain and American Bandstand helped a lot of artists become stars. I also liked the way the show started with the tain puffing smoke and the Soooouuuultrain shout out. Lol
FROM THAT LONG, LONG AGO, SUMMER OF '72 , I WAS 25 Y/O, SOON TO BE 26. --------NEVER-------EVER, DID ' FOOLIN AROUND " SOUND SO GOOD. ------------RIP, MR BILLY PAUL. -------------------MJL, 77 Y/O
Renaissance Man, you may enjoy " Three Ring Circus" by Blue Magic. The words to this song are SOOOOOO powerful, please listen when you get a chance. This song is early 70's
In 72' I was around 15 years old... I played this song so much on my little record player I had to buy new needles...plus I looked for ever for a man to tell me we had a thing going on 😋
@@mrxces69 My goodness I can't believe in my lifetime I'm still here looking at a comment I made two years ago. Trust me a lot has happened in those two years. Today my twin brother is having open heart surgery for triple heart bypass he went in at 7:30 am and its 9:52 am its a 5 to 7 hour surgery. So I wish you a good life. And God willing maybe we'll comment together in two years.
My son used to like this. He was only about 4 and didn't know what the song was about so it was probably just the melody. He always picked it to be played on the juke box.
Billy Paul great singer! R.I.P.
The quintessential example of the soul from the 70's! Big fros, wide lapels and smooth tunes that you could feel! Love this one!
Great song. There use to be an elderly lady worked in cafeteria at the factory I worked. She was Mrs. Jones and I'd sing this to her off key terribly but she always got the biggest smile.
I was a Mrs. Jones for over 20 years until i remarried and people would sing this to me ...
On Six-Thirty I guess
One of the best songs of the 70's. He has such an amazing voice!
You gotta love Billy Paul and this song! He sang it like nobody else could... so mellow and smooth.. and SOULLLLL TRAINNNN!!!
Love this one. Old school, haven't heard it in ages.
Enjoyed the song and video. Used to watch Soul Train regularly, yes white people watched it too. This was back when entertainers could actually sing.
I know I watched it. so long as it is great music who cares. Right? Am White .also
Does it matter if you're white or black? I grew up in the 60's and my brother played nothing but Motown, Stax and Atlantic, I listen to nothing other than soul R&B.
Good music has no color! Grew up with Motown: Four Tops, temptations, Supremes, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, and a host of others. Great stuff!
@@bryanmaleckar2176 I am originally from Detroit so I grew up with all those and more as well.
I am Chinese and watched that too. How about that? LOL.
Doesn't matter how many times I hear this song it always takes me back to the same place in my life💛💛
His velvet voice seduces like AL Green, Barry White, and Marvin Gaye.
He looks like Thunderbolt Patterson.
uh, no.....not even close to Al or Barry or Freddie
@@perryarrington8446 Thanks to Freddie I'm a sexual spastic.
They don't make music like this anymore.
Fuck rap.
C Beck ... you forgot to mention Marion Manson. : )
This is stuck in my head for over 30 years, and is still a regular favorite in my car
52 years ago slow dancing to this jam..........................................................................!
Same! It so sensuous!
Another great singer from my hometown of Philadelphia! Must be something in the, as we say in Philadelphia, 'wooder'. That's water to you Ty lol! You take care and stay safe!
One of the greatest songs ever written, arranged and sang by...just perfection.
Absolutely love this song!
That wall of sound those strings and horns are so great. The starts and stops in the right places are amazing.
Haven't heard this in a long while! That man could sing! ❤
Kimberly Brown-Dias one of the best songs of all times! Is pure perfection
Cuts to your soul doesn’t he? My favorite Billy Paul song. Awesome
Billy Paul was part of that TSOP or Philly soul era back in the 70s..some of the best soul to every come along. Many notable artists came out of Philly. My dad's favorite!!
A terrific song and performance from Wayback. It's 2021 Covid Hell and this song hasn't aged a day for me.
Always loved this song, from the first time it aired back in early 1972.

The LEGENDARY Mr Billy Paul
Iconic! This is a classic. All you had to say was Me and Mrs Jones and I knew the song.
Great song..brought up in these great music soul times..go Sir Billy Paul..what a voice.
What a voice, what a great song. So much soul. Beautiful.
You're the best reaction artist on RUclips, bro. You always respect the music.
Miss this music so much...this was the “song of the year” and number one song.
Man, just one of the smoothest, soulful voices you will ever hear.

Smooth, oh so smooth.....danced to this many times! Sweet memories are made of this.
Great song. Grew up listening to that hit on my father's old stereo.

Aw, I loved Casey Kasem.
Especially as a kid and he voiced “Mark”,one of the characters on a cartoon called Battle of the Planets”, or G- Force. RIP.
@Modern Renaissance Man. Another powerful soulful voice that would blow you away is Barry White - Can't Get Enough Of Your Love.
Every time I hear this, I remember my Mrs. Jones. It has been decades and I hope she is happy and doing well.
If you plan to react to old shows I'd love to see you react to Carol Burnett Show - Tim Conway's Elephant Story , it's a classic from a great show.
If he does this, I hope he uses the clip that has both of the stories. The 2nd story is the only time that he was able to get Vicki to break character, I think.
Carol Burnett Show - when comedians were funny
Tim and Harvey and the dentist skit.
