Backstage at the Emmys, Ray Parker Jr. saw Jordan Peele and approached him. He told him in person how funny he thought this skit was. He later commented on an interview that he thought Jordan looked nervous when he first approached, as if he wasn't sure how Ray would react. Turns out Ray thought the whole thing was hilarious.

What's ironic is Ray Parker Jr. really wrote a number of popular songs that people didn't know he wrote. Like "Mr Telephone Man" for New Edition to "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" performed by Leo Sayers. And he was the guitarist for artists such as Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight to Stevie Wonder. He had a very unbelievable career.
and he played on Veronique Sanson's 1977 masterpiece Hollywood

This is such a masterful skit that I can't help but revisit. The set-up itself is hilarious without a doubt, but the details in this are absolutely exquisite. Like "*Ghostbusters not included" and his facial expressions. So many things tightly packed in this 2+ minute skit. Nothing short of a masterwork.

I think that is the point he tries to make every song built around the Ghostbusters theme structure.
What's funny is that the song Ghostbusters was made intentionally to sound like a Huey Lewis and the News song after they couldn't get HLatN to sign off to make a song for the soundtrack. There was eventually a lawsuit and settlement because of it where Huey Lewis was given a gag order where he could not disclose of the details.
But basically the song Ghostbusters was a rip-off of a Huey Lewis song, I Want A New Drug.

I love the juxtaposition between the serious and often violent subject matters of the movies and his cheerful take on them.
This is one of my favorite episodes and it’s also their last episode. I wished for so many more seasons of key and peele. Their friendship and chemistry is like no other!! Much love to you both! When I’m sad or having a bad day I watch my favorite episodes and laugh my pain away!

Hilarious skit caused me to do a deep dive on Parker, Jr.'s background and catalog a little while ago. Ray Sr. was an auto worker. Ray chose music over finishing college. Amazing work including rhythm guitar for Chaka Khan and others. His own songs for Raydio and solo work are funky and even rockin'! Certainly no one hit wonder like this may make one think. A lot of the songs I had heard and enjoyed as a little kid, just didn't know who he was until Ghostbusters when I was entering late childhood. Check him out!

I heard Ghostbusters at a gas station this morning and I busted out laughing. So yeah here I am again this skit never gets old.
Ray Parker Jr actually wrote a ton of hit songs but he will always be remembered for the ghostbuster theme song which was a note for note ripoff of "Soulfinger" or "I need a new drug" depending on who you ask. It's a shame really that he will be remembered for a novelty song when he had much better hits before and after that came out.
