His mom sang his favorite songs in his ear before he passed. Much sympathy to his family and friends. My sister as well is in the hospital right now, from a very tragic car accident. They are going to try and wake her up tomorrow. Cheers Chi... You fought hard my man.
wow! it has been quite a long time but my sister has woken up! she is still going through recovery more than 8 years later but she is here. People can come back but a part of them is gone or different at times and you have to just appreciate
This is the 2nd musician's death that has truly affected my life. I'm pretty sure that Mr. Cheng's screams are etched in my brain for ever. Rock In Peace Mr. Cheng.
Don't be too sorry for Chi, he lived a fantastic life and achieved so much in 42 years, he changed a lot of peoples lives, including mine. Inspirational band and musician. He will be remembered and live on through the music
This really hurts watching an interview of Chi. What a humble human being. And a seriously cool chill guy. It is incredibly sad and depressing that he’s no longer with us! We love you Chi! Rest easy. Never ever forgotten.
I miss Chi every day. Not a day passes that I don't think about him. Check out his spoken word poetry called The Bamboo Parachute. That was really entertaining.
Man this brought tears to see him happy with the interviewer and how he said he always enjoys them.. that final wAlk in front of bus and be last time..know he jamming and looking on all the people he has touched…rip bro CHI!!!!!!!
I was one of those "20 to 50 people every night" who saw KoRn & the Deftones back in the day, as well seeing the 'Tones open for Life Of Agony & Anthrax on their first US tour promoting "Adrenaline" - I still have my promo cassette for "7 Words" that were tossed into the crowd - and was amazed by both the band as a whole as well as a Chi's playing and tone as a fellow Bassist. Chi's playing was far more melodic and interesting then your typical "Heavy Rock/Metal" bass player, and IMO was a large part of what set the Deftones apart from most of the original/first generation of bands that came to be known as "Nü-Metal".
don't know what life would be like without the music he was instrumental in creating, this world would be much less of a place without it. Thank you Chi, your memory energy and inspiration echoes in eternity
Deftones are literally the only band I listened to in junior high that I STILL LOVE to this day. This man is one of the most humble musicians I've ever seen in my life. My prayers go out to him and his family
finally saw my favorite band from my childhood at the forum and unfortunately/obviously chi cheng wasn't there and its not that it lessen the experience for me but for now i feel bummed that i didn't catch him. Was definitely a special experience for me seeing my childhood idols on the stage giving their all.
This makes me so sad, chi & deftones were an inspiration to me and my buddies back in the day when we started playing, we used to cover a lot of deftones songs and have such fun just playing. This man really made a difference in our lives. R.I.P Chi, you'll be missed, now go and have fun in heaven.
When the band was young and unknown, they all roomed together. Chi would occasionally cook stir-fry for their starving a**es and they'd put the band tee-shirts in the oven to silk screen them. One night the shirts caught on fire and he reached in with lightning quick reflexes to pull them out before the kitchen went up in flames. A great bassist he was, deep groove he laid down with Abe and he did it with such viscereal intensity. I've never seen a player groove like him on stage besides maybe Flea. Anyway, RIP, brother. Thanks for the music and the charity work you did for the local Sac community. Peace bro.
though you may be gone in the flesh you still live through your music that pulses through the veins of every fan across the globe.. you are my brother and the greatest bassist of all time.....ONE LOVE FOR CHI!!!!!!.....god better have ear plugs!!
It's sad that he died, but when he got in that car accident he wasn't wearing a seat belt and he got thrown out of the car compared to his sister who was wearing one who got minor injuries. IT just shows that you need to wear a seat belt at all times.
I "know" the guy for about an hour now, never heard the band itself. I read his poetry, listen to his (their) songs and read the biography in wikipedia. Noticed he's a Taoist. All I can say is that although I am not a magical thinker, I do tend to believe that certain people just come on this world, "do" what they are supposed to do and simply "leave", often abruptly... It's the rest of us that are wondering what the hell are we supposed to do with our lives...
Chi we love you :'] I bet you're having a peaceful time wherever it is that you're at . I fucking love you and the music you helped create seriously love you ! RIP chi .
I always loved chi's influence in the band. It hasn't really been the same since hes been gone. Still great though seen them twice and it was amazing. But anyways something about this interview made me think of a young Krist Novselic, the way he talked, chi I mean. He sounded like a young Krist. I'm pretty sure they are about the same age also.
I'm very sorry for you dude, hope your sister is ok. nobody deserves to lose a family member, not you, not Chi's family, not anybody. RIP Chi and my thoughts go out to your sister. Rock on dude.
I love hearing about Saturday Night Wrist... The band collectively hates the album, but the fact that they hate it draws me to it. It's been said artists always hate genius pieces they make.
Genres like punk/alternative/rock/metal don't mean anything. Just simplistic taxonomy for ppl who like all things simple. My fav Deftones songs are Lotion, Elite, When Girls Telephone Boys and Kimdracula. Kimdracula is amazing. The way it makes me feel is very hard to describe. I'm grateful for the music that these guys create and sad that Chi is gone. I'm off to go listen to "Korn - Chi". The late nineties was such a great time for music.
His mom sang his favorite songs in his ear before he passed. Much sympathy to his family and friends. My sister as well is in the hospital right now, from a very tragic car accident. They are going to try and wake her up tomorrow. Cheers Chi... You fought hard my man.
Did she wake up?
wow! it has been quite a long time but my sister has woken up! she is still going through recovery more than 8 years later but she is here. People can come back but a part of them is gone or different at times and you have to just appreciate

What a cool dude, rest easy Chi
Damn dude this is deep. Seeing an interview with a person who is no longer with us. Chi Cheng will never be forgotten!
That ending was trippy, how you just see his reflection and just goes on with life. Life's too short and unpredictable. RIP Chi
That was trippy..

im crying looking at this i miss you chi please come back! :(

They were my first show when I was 14 right after Around the Fur. RIP Chi!
"You can sing 'I fuckin hate Chi Cheng' for all i care. Just finish the album." 😂😂😂
hands down our favorite bottom-end guy of all time - what a heart and soul he is - sleep well baby... sleep well...
Imagine seeing korn and Deftones on the same day rocking the same stage god damn
Thanks for those years of good music, Cheng. You'll be missed.
Such a beautiful dude who had such a sick bass tone and style. Remember seeing them in a small club in ‘95(?) and Chi was very cool. Rip Chi
Happy 50th birthday Chi. We miss you
I always loved chi's influence

Krist is five years older than Chi.

THANK YOU!!!!
RIP man, fuck. Take it easy up there, your music got me through a lot of shit.
when i first started listening to deftones i searched up the members and i knew right away this guy was the coolest
Chi was the man. He always reminded me of Joseph Gordon Levitt back in the Around The Fur and White Pony era.
Joseph Gordon Levitt...the actor. Look at old pics of Chi from the 90s, then look at pics of Joseph Gordon Levitt.
Dougeee See my reply above...
R.I.P. Chi, you will be missed
RIP Chi ):
The World will never be the same without you.
Rest in peace. you harbored a sweet brilliance. you will be missed

From Belgium ,c'est une bien triste nouvelle, merci à toi l'artiste d'avoir été présent au sein de ce groupe mythique qu' est Deftones.

One love, forever. Fly free Chi..
As chi walks away you can see his reflection joining the sun
