How to Choose the Right External Power Bank for Your Canon EOS RP

- Choosing the right external power bank for your Canon EOS RP is essential for ensuring that your camera stays powered up during long photography sessions or when you're on the go. In this video I demonstrate why just any power bank won't do, you NEED a particular feature that not all power banks have.

Absolutely. You don't like it, you know what to do. Thanks for stopping by nonetheless.
Dennis Harris. Did you do a better video? 🤔
Great information! I found a Samsung phone charger with a USB-C outlet and it charges my RP! The equivalent that Canon offers is over 100 bucks.
If you have a powerbank with a PD of 45w then it will power the camera.
Nope. I already have a video showing it doesn’t work.
That's really helpful ☺️ thanks
thanks for the vid. You saved me some time and frustration. I had a battery to charge my pixel phone but i wasn't using it from c port to c port on camera. Now i just have to buy a longer cable. Wish i could use the battery bank that can jump start my car.
Thanks for the valuable info
Thank you for taking the time to watch.
Thanks for the info!!
I agree with you, if I can save any device's wear and tear, prolong life any how I will do that. I will even use an external usb or wireless keyboard for my laptop, I will do anything. Great video thanks a lot, I want that Powerbank
Yeah, I can often be rough with my gear, so th least amount of time I'm opening doors, removing batteries and SSD cards the better. Thank you for stopping by... much appreciated.
Thanks for this informations! 👍👍
Thank you soooo mach this video
Could you the Anker Cube and USB-C cable to charge the camera while recording? I wan't to use my Camera as a Webcam and some people recommended a Constant Power Adapter called ACK-18 and DR-18 DC (batttery) coupler. I am like yourself, I don't want to have to remove the battery from the camera. Also, If I could even use the Power Bank to give constant power to the camera while recording, I could also use it to charge it when I'm out and about (killing 2 birds with one stone).
Unfortunately not. The camera can’t be used (turned on) while connected to a power source.
A good news happened, it’s working with the power bank and you don’t have to need to use a dummy battery for a long interval shooting, all you need is an PD power bank and a PD type C cable also and it’ll work perfectly
What about using a "dummy" battery, plug it onto the wall & livestream for about 6hrs with a continuous power feed. I'm in the market for such product. However I've read it somewhere that you can break, fry this cameras by doing that the volts are high and overheat the circuits. This is the soul reason, I'm watching this video RN, lol great TY for sharing and being kind enough to upload.
I honestly don’t know. But I too have heard bad things about trying that method from others. I wouldn’t try it.
Great information, I have the Canon E05 Rebel T3 and will have to give it a try. Thanks Tim, be well.
I had the T7i some years ago, great for pictures but I wasn't too happy with the video. Haven't tried video yet with this new camera.
Awesome information Tim! I have an EOS R and it can be charged the same way. Thanks brother!
The R is super nice! I had a hard time trying to decide between the two... In the end I went with the RP. Both are amazing cameras.
@@GearReviewDepot I agree Tim. I got a good deal on a very slightly used R and that made up my mind between the two.
Thank you
Thank you so much! I've been trying to this and it never worked either. I didn't know about that other type battery pack
You're welcome!!
Great info Brother! When your in the wild and need more power for the camera, this will be a life saver. Good to know! Will you do a review on the camera?
Have a great weekend.☺️🌲
Possibly. I have so many videos lined up with very little time to get them done, I'll see what I can do.
@@GearReviewDepot Understandable 😊
oh my god! thanks so much! i thought my cam was broken.
Wow can i charge in the long ride. Easy it ways.
Yes
Can you take videos or pictures while the camera is charging with the power bank?
You can’t. Unfortunately. I think I have another video demonstrating this.
@@GearReviewDepot what did you name that video?
@@dragonpower974 ruclips.net/video/TscxzO3hHOU/видео.htmlsi=kRjyaJC0Ni_tL9Rd
@@GearReviewDepot Is there a way to do so?
@@dragonpower974 Unfortunately not. I even spoke with tech support at Canon and it can’t be done.
SAY, I wanna do Astrophotography, and from my calculation, I need about 4 hrs of Juice, but as you can imagine, no wall sockets in the middle of a dark National Park. What to do?
Changing the battery is not an option, because it would shake my camera, and I need it to stay still, on a tripod for 4 hrs straight.
There’s no way around it my friend. The camera/battery won’t charge while it’s on and/or being used. Unfortunately
Use "dummy" battery and powerbank
@@SURF4LIFE84 I know my brother can do that in his Z5, but no idea if that will work in EOS RP.
But can you also use the camera while powering it with the power bank?
Unfortunately not.
everyone answers the same exact question...charging but what about external power for continuous use without battery. rp will not recharge unless its off, period. that serves zero purpose. Can it be made to use external power only with or without the battery inserted
As I’ve explained to my children more times than I can count, if you insist on using the iPads WHILE you’re charging them at the same time, then they’re never going to charge. Put it down, plug it in and leave it alone.
But can the camera be turned on and in use while it is connected to a power bank and charging?
Unfortunately not. The camera can not be used or on while charging.
Any suggestions for canon m50 mark ii?
According to what I read you can charge the M50 II in the same way.
Hello bud. I’ve just bought the same powebank for my EOS RP following your review but mine doesn’t charge my camera, could I be doing anything wrong? I appreciate this has no benefit to you but I thought I would ask. Thanks in advance.
Are you using a USB-C to USB-C cable? A good quality cable? You can't use a USB to USB-C cable. Must be plugged into the USB-C port on the battery to the USB-C port on the camera.
Is it the same process with an r10?
Not too sure my friend, I don’t own an R10.
Conseguiu descobrir se dá certo com a R10 também?
Few questions arise:
- Can Canon RP be charged from a laptop, as long as the laptop has a usb-c port and PD?
- Can all RP compatible batteries be charged by using a usb-c PD? So if I purchase a cheap RP knock off battery, can I still use usb-c to charge it?
The problem is that when turned on, the camera does not charge anymore.
I need the camera to stay on and not turn off.
For example for a long time lapse.
Do you know how to solve this problem?
Case relay by Tether tools
Dummy battery
I maybe think the problem is that the Amp is to low.
Can I charge my M50 by connecting USB type C to a normal USB adapter?
Not according to the camera specifications.
BUT you can't charge and also turn it on at the same time for taking pictures or videos...
No body mentions this!!!!
That’s correct. But like I keep telling my children, if you keep using your iPads while you’re trying to charge the battery, it’ll never charge… because you’re using it. 🤷🏻♂️
@@GearReviewDepot It depends. If you're using a 5W Apple Charger, then it will take really long while using the camera or even not at all.
But you're using a charger, with 30W or more, then it should no problem.
Really? Just read anywhere, including the official Canon website, that you need a PD standard (Power Delivery) and it only works with USB-C, so logically a USB-A powerbank won't work.
How many minutes can you shoot video?
30 minutes of continuous recording video. I’m not sure about other brands but every Canon camera I’ve owned has a maximum of thirty minutes record time. For me, it’s more than enough.
@@GearReviewDepot Thanks for the answer. How is the battery life? 1 hour?
Just buy lots of extra batteries. Much simpler
Ha ha ha.. now the truth revealed
Gotta wonder how long it will take for this guy to get to the point. 3:35 still not there...
As long as he wants.
So much drama 🙆🏻♂️
