Well EJ, you had the ability to move up, didn't crash, didn’t get dropped or pulled, so I would say you had a successful debut in P12 field. Dude congratulations on making it to cat 2 in your first year of riding a bike, that is quite an accomplishment! Are you sure you were a baseball player? Most baseball players, I played with had a huge chip on their shoulders. You could use a little chip… (Not a big chip, mind you, just enough that you are confident in your abilities.) I hope you have a great race in Tahiti and have some fun while you are there!
Thank you so much! Hahah yeah I def had a chip in baseball. I was much more confident in that sport! I’ll get there! Thank you for the support! Just speaking how I was feeling because I want the vlogs to be honest.
How was it racing with Jeff since y’all went your separate ways? Funny seeing you two and Tyler all riding together, the collective source of many hours of my life spent in front of my computer/TV in one group.
Great work finishing with the field! I just did my first race (as a Cat 3) with the SM 2-3 and MM 40+ 1-2-3s, and it was intense! As a lot of people have mentioned, just keep getting out and racing! For me, the imposter syndrome is less now that I've found some fast group rides to hit every week. When you're finishing a 45 mile Worlds ride with people who have the stars and stripes or state champ on their sleeves, you realize you belong. Keep it up, and keep the videos flowing! I can't wait for the Tahiti content to drop!
Seriously, great job. P1/2 already, that's incredible. You're learning, you know that, the keyboard warriors know that, and that's bike racing. We're always learning. Next race you'll be hella better. Loving the content and keep it up!!
So as a former bike racer without and great results myself, I would say set some smaller goals for the next few local races. Don't worry about the finish. Make it a goal to stay in the top 15 -20 riders as long as you can for a race. Start or make the breakaway for a race. Don't worry about getting dropped or DNFing. Another time, just concentrate on trying to pedal through as much of the race as possible and not squeezing the brakes. You mention following the wheels. As a bigger rider I can say this wasn't a great strategy for me. You have to make all of the braking and accelerations as the smaller riders at a higher power output. Stick with Jeff's advice of smooth effort when they stop pedaling try to find your line and use it to move up.
EJ, I had an old GoPro 7, battery wouldn't last and would sometimes overheat around 40 mins. It's a thing with GP's. This year I got a DJI Osmo 2 that I use on my channel and couldn't be happier. I can shoot 4K 60 for an hour and a half on a charge! That should cover you in the P1-2's :)
Sometimes the best way to learn how to navigate the course is just to find someone ripping like Ryan was and do all you can to stick on his wheel for a few laps. Looks like your trying but in time it will come.
Imposter syndrome is rough, I know first hand. But also remember, you don’t owe us anything so no need to apologize. Keep up the great work and good luck in Tahiti!
Let’s go EJ! To deal with that imposter syndrome, when I have it mid race, I identify someone “better” and if we are fighting for the same wheels/lines, I know I’m doing something right
I’m not gonna lie I’m gonna keep it 92+8=100 that I don’t belong here mentality is an L mentality you gotta change that you gotta want it more you gotta remember where you came from and how hard you trained to get there and race every race with the Im gonna win no matter what mentality and you’ll see when you finish a race you’ll be like dang I gave it everything but didn’t win I’ll get the next one keep your head up and keep grinding 💪👍
Good showing and don't be so hard. I love watching the races but you'd never catch me doing that stuff - even if I had your power! You definitely belong there - you have more followers and views than anyone out there other than Vegan! lol Seriously though imposter syndrome happens to everyone regardless of talent or skill. Highly recommend "Mud Rocks and Blazes" by Heather "Anish" Anderson a thru-hiker who FKT'd the PCT and still felt like an imposter in the hiking world!
Keep working EJ - just getting up to a P12 race is impressive. It’ll start feeling more comfortable with the more reps you get!

I was at the race to watch it, and you guys were zooming, just staying with the pros is a big win. Great job 👏

Is Jeff still on Mikes Bikes?
@@threed821 yep!
EJ my dude, I really appreciate your self awareness and willingness to criticize yourself. It’s definitely a fresh take. Keep it up!
I just try to say how I’m feeling. I want to keep these vlogs honest. Thank you for the support!

GoPro might be overheating?
Hmm good call! 💪 didn’t start happening until like 1 or 2 weeks ago

Thank you! 🫶
That’s a pretty tough course and consistently fast race for your first P12 race.
Let’s go EJ!

Love that! Thank you for the advice!
Cat 2!!?? Let’s go babi
Dude, you earned the right to ride cat 2. Get some positivity in you and follow the wheel. You can make it happen. Doubt weighs heavy on the shoulder.

Find a velodrome and do some track cycling. After you've done a few elimination races crits will feel like a breeze

Can you switch back to mph? A happy medium might be speed in terms of mph, but distance in km
yes
Just for you
Win or learn.

I appreciate all your comments on all the videos. Been fun looking forward to seeing what you have to say. I appreciate it! 🫶
all these people talking about being first in the comments, EJ literally uploads at midnight for me its not fair
Fitness is there, have more faith in your abilities :-) It feels like you are asking yourself to much questions while you race.
Jeff is still your daddy
He went to get the milk.
Original title...
You just need to race more
You like to say “to say the least” to say the least. Ha! Jk!
😂😂😂
Yay first view and comment
Nice, my first comment and a podium!
