- I finished my Sleepy Hollow Katrina van Tassel cosplay in time for Halloween! This video details how to make all of the trims for this costume, as well as how I matched the perfectly chevroned stripes on the sleeves, plus some other smaller details.
What did you wear for Halloween? Let me know in the comments!

This whole project is IMO a masterpiece, so much went into the design, patterning, fitting, construction, and of course matching all the stripes. A truly aspirational level of work!
Thank you!
You’ve made almost everything on your 2023 list, right? Only Rose’s pink coat is left. That’ll be very cool to see!
I have a bustle dress next up too. 😉 And finishing my pumpkin dress of course.
I love how your cat looks you up and down then shakes your hand, as if to say well done madam nice dress .
Congratulations it looks amazing 👏 xx
Haha, thanks!
Very pretty! I love how nicely the stripes fit together-definitely worth your time and effort for that. And it’s even better how this project was pretty affordable overall. A lot of people I talk to who are new to sewing cosplays or historic-style clothing think it’s way too expensive, but it really doesn’t have to be, so again, I am glad you can help demonstrate that beautiful cosplay can be made without breaking the bank 👍🏻
Thanks! I was glad to be able to make this on a budget, though I am also aware that I already had all the undergarments. Starting from scratch would take quite a bit more money.
What a stunning gown, It is so flattering, and so very close to the original. This is definitely going on my must make list. You never cease to amaze me!❤❤❤
Thank you!
Your attention to detail is amazing! The dress turned out really nicely and the photoshoot was perfect.
Thank you!
I honestly feel you did the best reproduction of this dress, out of all the reproductions I have seen on the internet. Fantastic job.
Aww, thank you! 🩷
Dress is awesome! And doing this on-a-budget and last-minute is just proving how good you are in what you are doing
Thank you!
Rebecca, you never cease to amaze!!!!!!! STUNNING!!!!!
Thanks!
Wow. That dress looks AMAZING! Congratulations!
Thanks!
I never even knew that ripping woven fabrics like cotton or whatever was even an option until I started watching channels like yours and others. It is so enjoyable and such a time saver. My back and hands thank you for the knowledge lol. Also, the dress looks great!
The way it moves when you move is enchanting! This is amazing and so effective. Congratulations.
Thanks!
Do you know what I love so much about this dress-other than the final result? I watched several people make that dress and they all did a beautiful job and they all got sharpie and marked up the fabric and that took a garment from being accessible and exciting to being too ridiculously particular for me to bother with even thinking about. You made it accessible again, so thank you. I’m still probably never going to make anything like that but I sure would not feel bad just using striped fabric. I know that’s a strange complaint to make about the other makers who did beautiful jobs but yikes.
I really really love the back fluffy draping. The fit is so good and it really looks so good on you. So pretty!!!
It really looks lovely. I really can't even think about how very long it would take to draw all the strips on the fabric! Glad you were able to finish it in time!
You are so well-educated and impeccably talented! You look beautiful in this tour de force!
Thank you!
I got something on my ruler and it did the same. I got an enamel marker to put the lines back on. Then I sealed it with a clear spray paint. Never had a problem after that.
My jaw just drops with every finished project. Totally amazing work 🧵
👏👏👏
Aww thanks!
Amazing. I can not believe how budget friendly it is.
Yep! Glad I could add this to my list of my cheapest costumes. And thanks!
Well done, gift talent only come from the true Creator of all creation.
Speechless! WOW! Absolutely LOVE it! Isn't it crazy that the most popular dress had the lest screen time. It would be super useful if movie companies would just release line drawings, at the very least, or patterns, at the best, of their costumes. I think there has always been a market for it.
Thank you! I swear, I think some companies (like Disney with the newer princess dresses) make dresses more complicated on purpose.
I agree about the lining on the dress skirt.
This gown is absolutely stunning! You look amazing in it! Very flattering and beautifully constructed. I learn so much from each of your videos and I thank you so much!
Thanks!
Absolutely AWESOME!
Thank you! 🩷
It all looks fab, and, as I mentioned on Instagram, I love how well the chevrons on the sleeves worked.
Thank you!
It looks amazing. I would never have the patience to put so much into a piece.
Thanks! Can you imagine the patience needed to draw the stripes on? I felt like this was the much better option for my patience level! 😉
I loved this dress in the movie. Yours looks fantastic! And it looks so cool in the cemetery.
Thanks!
Beautiful dress! Your attention to detail is amazing.
Thanks!
The main ingredient in fray check is n-propanol, which is an alcohol. The ruler is probably printed with alcohol soluble ink, which is why it wiped off with the fray check.
Best version of this dress I’ve seen to date! You looked beautiful! I’m super jealous as I’ve always this dress in particular!❤
Aww, thank you!
Love this dress and how it moves the stripes are inspiring 😊
The dress came out amazing! So happy for you!
You look gorgeous. Your attention to detail is fantastic. Marvellous job and magnificent dress.
Thank you!
It came out beautifully! What an interesting project!
Thanks!
The dress looks amazing. I spent part of Halloween walking in a old gothic cemetery in Bristol and wished I had something like that to wear
Thanks! That sounds neat.
How amazing you look! Fabulous dress.
This dress turned out great!! You look marvellous!!! ❤
Thanks!
What a project!!! And it looks amazing!❤
Thanks!
Love it! I think you are so good with stripes, the first video of yours I saw was your red and white stripe dress, which I loved, and now this is even cooler
Thanks! And I have blue and white striped fabric for a project that I hope to do next year!
Wow what an amazing dress!
This is so beautiful, I also love the black and gold dress you were wearing. Loved seeing Lion and Dora too. xo
Thank you!
I gotta say, I had very low hopes for this one. I don’t like the Beetlejuice look of black and white stripes or the possibility of looking like a cartoon prison escapee, and clearly I just didn’t think I was going to like this at all. Well, let me just say how very very wrong I was. Your reveal at the end is completely phenomenal and I believe this is now one of the most beautiful looks you have ever done. Brava! I love it! Wow was I wrong on this one. It’s gorgeous!!
Thanks!
I think I like yours better than the original!
Thanks!
Love it!! And you look awesome in it! Well done!
Beautiful dress! You did an outstanding job!
Thanks!
Looks stunning.
Absolute Perfection! 🔥❤️🔥🔥
Thanks!
Beautiful dress. Well done!!!
Thanks!
Absolutely amazing ❤❤❤ I dred ruffles at times... so pretty but a pain to gather...
Thanks!
just beautiful, Rebecca. Well made and you really look lovely in it :)
Thanks!
Just lovely
This turned out just amazing! It really is so well done and very flattering. If I ever get around to making this dress, I would follow what you did for sure.
Thanks!
It looks like your cat agrees! 🤣 They look like they were checking you out up and down.
Thats just beautiful!! Awesome job!!!😍😍😍❤❤❤
Thank you!
Loved seeing how you finished up the project. The finished dress looks incredible!
Thanks!
The dress looks fantastic and really beautiful on you.
Thanks!
So very lovely it turned out! It does flatter you very well, it was wonderful watching it come together!
Thanks!
It's very pretty!! 😍 I have an over-skirt that I bustled up by just tacking it with a few stitches, but I think I might add some twill tape and rings and bustle it up by tying it. Thanks for the idea! 🙂
Thanks! I do still want to get some rings instead of the safety pins in the middle, but they're working well so far!
@@LadyRebeccaFashions You're welcome! I'm glad the safety pins are holding up! 🙂
Hi Dora!!! As usual, you were the star of the show! Followed by your head servant at a close second ;)
This looks wonderful, great job!
Thanks!
Now I must make a modern version become that dress is fabulous!!
Fantastic!!!!
It looks wonderful!
Incredible make!! xxxxxx
Thanks!
Lovely!😊
This looks amazing! Don't worry about leaving pins in, those are historically accurate 🤣💜
Haha! Thanks!
😻so pretty😻❤ your dresses always look amazing 😻 I would want to make that in other color stripes too, it’s so pretty.❤ You could make a petticoat in a plain color to match one of the stripes for different looks or do a petticoat one half stripes and one half plain and just wear the half that you want to see in front. Ooooo the possibilities🤔😊
Thanks!
Wow it is gorgeous
Thanks!
You know, black & white stripes might also work as half-mourning colors, not just for Halloween. (A lot of the Jane Austen fan fiction I read has characters in mourning after someone dies, and they could switch from deep mourning to half-mourning after 3-6 months, depending on how closely related the characters were to the deceased relative.)
I so admire your passion for your craft!
You’re really amazing at proportion for your body shape. I noticed it when you did the Titanic dress. Could you do a video explaining how you do it? As a plus size woman, I always see clothes on smaller people that I want to wear but when I try it for my body shape it doesn’t work. But, you’ve done it twice now and it looks AMAZING!
Thanks! I actually have a video where I talk a lot about the importance of proportion. I'm pretty sure it's in this one: ruclips.net/video/6eqopY8w72U/видео.html
If you find that you still have additional questions, let me know and maybe I'll do a follow-up video!
I absolutely LOVE this dress! It's so flattering & fun.
Thank you!
It turned out very lovely.
Love it
Thanks!
There are no ingredients listed on fray check, but since it's flammable, it's likely to contain either some alcohol (ethanol, methanol, etc.) or a petroleum derivative. Both of those are great solvent for a lot of inks. Alcohol is 100 % a solvent for sharpie ink. I work in soil characterization, labels washing away is a recurring issue.
It could also be acetone. My bottle is empty, so I can't smell it. I know the smell is strong and unpleasant, but I didn't try to guess what it is.
Interesting!
Fray check has alcohol in it, which will remove the marks on your ruler!
Your stripe matching skills are better than you think. We're not worthy!
Not watched the entire thing yet but before me forget. If hem are left open to frey and you want a stop point put a row of straigth machine stitches where that should be and it stop freying decent. Specilly on things not washed in a machine ones. Cam ve good to remeber in future prodjects becouse this one allready done
Unfortunately that would be super obvious on silk organza. More so even than fray check.
Good call on the sleeves, fitting and length. I'm wondering if the sleeve length in the movie was shorter because of all those trims !?
Very nice😍
Amazing frock, fab job looks spot on..😊
Thanks!
Great dress, love the attention to detail on the sleeves, definitely paid off, those chevrons ❤
Was thinking in the reveal that you could do with more weight in the skirt dress, then you said exactly that 😂
Brilliant dress and you definitely have more patience than me.
Beautiful! And wasn't Mother Nature a gem for giving you excellent weather for your graveyard reveal?
Thanks! Yes, we lucked out - it had originally been threatening to rain.
Lovely! Its an amazing dress and you look amazing in it. 🤗😘
Thanks!
Its either the npropanol or the terpolymers
That made the ink in the ruler wipe away?
I love the nearly-finished project. The missing trim is not noticeable at all.
You might want to use some tulle under the polonaise over skirt to make it look more pouffe. But otherwise the whole dress looks fabulous on you.
I wonder if the designer chose to make her sleeves shorter to make her seem younger, more innocent, as a contrast to the stepmother? Jenny Beavan (i think?) usually nails the fit.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Omg Dora is so cute

You know to be honest you look better with blonde hair than red, a lot better.
Thats a pain re your ruler. It seems like fray check has an alcohol and water base in it which might have reacted with the ink on the ruler?.
😃❤❤❤
Fun fact: if you accidentally put permanent marker on a dry erase board, putting dry erase marker over it will loose it up. I wonder if something similar happened with your ruler.... 😢
Hmmm, maybe some sort of weird chemical property?
Your comment matches my experience.
Also 90% rubbing alcohol or a cheap hand sanitizer will remove ink(most writing supplies) off most surfaces. I’ve used it on whiteboards, laminated paper, wood tables and kiddos
A lovely finished dress, like the stripes a lot BUT:
You are being robbed. That first lace you showed us, it came in 1 yard lengths and was $8 a yard (we don't have coupons here so no point in mentioning that bit), my local haberdashers/fabric shop has the same lace (might be very slightly different, hard to tell just looking at yours but it appears to be the same) available in 8 shades and it costs a whopping two euro a metre - which is roughly $2 a yard. How the heck can they get away with charging 4x the price for what appears to be the same lace, especially as Joannes (not sure if that's spelt correctly) is a huge chain and can buy in super bulk amounts whereas my local is a one only shop down in Co Cork and can thus only buy in much much smaller quantities.
It is a lovely lace, I've used it on several different outfits over the years in different colours and I love it but I simply can't get over the price difference.
Great job!!! You have said that you’re tall I am also …I’m 5’11” do you mind me asking how tall you are??
Thanks! I'm 5'10"
@@LadyRebeccaFashions you carry it well
