Why I enjoy your videos: Years ago-I’m now 77-when I was in the sixth grade, I had to pass a house where a young lad who had Down Syndrome lived. I had never seen anyone like him, and to be truthful, he scared me to the point of being afraid to pass his house. For some reason the boy sensed my fear, and would jump out from behind objects to scare me.
Years passed, and one day I was invited by one of my friends to come to the church he attended. I agreed to his offer, and when we went to where his Sunday school class was being held there was the kid that had scared me several years ago. I again have to be honest, and say that it took everything I had not to run away. However; when the kid who’s name I now know was Billy came over to where I was being welcomed by the other kids. I was sure Billy would not remember me, but to my surprise Billy reached out his deformed hand to shake mine. I extended my hand, but to my surprise, Billy stepped in towards me, hugged me while he whispered in my ear, “I’m Sorry.” I sat with Billy in Sunday School class, and he came over to sit with me during the church service.
That was the last time I saw Billy, so now watching your videos brings back that special memory. Thanks to both you and Gabe for sharing your lives.
I am so glad to see the interview and how the station treated you and Gabe. I was afraid they would overlook Gabe and simply ask you the questions but, to see Gabe included and allowed to express himself was AMAZING! It brought tears to my eyes to see the inclusive message you and your family exude in everything you do come to life in an interview was wonderful!

You two deserved that segment on TV. It is GOOD, showing the world every way you can, on every platform possible - both large, small, and in the middle, that Gabey is every bit an equal human being as the rest of us. Gabey is a human being, he has rights, he has feelings, he has emotions, he has his likes and dislikes, he has a wonderful sense of humor, he has this personality that just won't quit, he has infinite amounts of love to dish out, and he wants to be loved in return and be shown the respect and acceptance that he so richly deserves. Gabey, I want you to know that I stand with you, and I am sending you all of that and many more good things, more than you and for family could ever ask and hope for. I love you so much, kiddo, you inspire me and so many others, you make me want to take in a young one just like you and provide them with the same love, family, home, and life that your family has provided for you. Sending you infinite hugs and nose kisses.
Nick, thank you for being the man you are, and for being one of Gabey's 2 best friends (his twin sister Kira being his other BFF in this life), thank you to both you and Kira for being 2 of his biggest advocates, his cheerleaders, his defenders, 2 sets of open ears when he needs his nearest and dearest to really HEAR him, he has 2 sets of open arms from you and Kira when he needs those hugs when he is having a rough day, he has 2 sets of shoulders to cry on in you two when he needs it. He also has ALL of that with Momma Safier and Cameraman, AKA Poppa Safier, as well. Gabey is so totally blessed, not everyone has a family like yours.
Kira - thank you for being such a loving twin sister to our Gabey. I hate to say it, but you're sharing him with the world now. I saw that video montage of you with Gabey, the relationship you two have, and how much you two love each other. He obviously loves you with everything in him, and everyone can see that Gabey owns your heart. I saw another video where you and Nick were talking amongst yourselves, making plans on how you two were going to take care of Gabey once your parents entered into their geriatric years, and eventually after they pass away. You and Nick talked about each of you taking equal turns having Gabey stay at your respective residences, there was NO mention from either of you about putting him in a home for disabled people. I was raised the same way. When my maternal grandparents were sick (my maternal Grandfather had terminal lung cancer back in 2000, he passed in March 2001. My maternal grandmother had SEVERE senile dementia, basically the half brother of Alzheimer's. The onset happened in around 1991, she passed just after Christmas and before New Years, 2010), my mom and I took care of them both. My grandfather should have been in a hospice care facility, but my mom and I kept him and home and the hospice nurses came to the house every other day, sometimes every day, to check on him, administer meds IF they were due during their visit, adjust meds as needed, etc... but my mom and I were doing the bulk of it all - doctor's appointments, chemo and radiation appointments, cooking, cleaning, picking up / preparing / administering medications, all of it. We did the same with my grandmother, although it was dementia instead of cancer. I am glad you two are making solid plans for Gabey's future, and that you want to keep him close.
Momma Safier and Cameraman aka Poppa Safier, thank you for being such loving, warm, attentive, and devoted parents - not just to Gabey but to Nick and Kira too. You have raised all 3 of those kids to be amazing people, and you really should be proud of yourselves, how incredible of a job you both have done raising your family.

@@marielle2066 Gabey, and the entire Safier family, are all so special. One of my husband's two older brothers has the same condition our Gabey has. He is in his mid 50's at this point, and I just love that guy with everything in me. My bro in law, Massimo, and I have a very special bond. He is significantly lower functioning than Gabey - totally non verbal (well, he has actually only spoken 2x in the last 18 years, to my knowledge, and both times, he spoke to ME - once, he said, "don't go, don't go" to me when my mother in law, father in law, and husband had to leave and I was already staying home to babysit him. He was scared, and pleaded with me to stay with him. I sat with him the entire time until everyone got home. The other time, we went to visit, we were walking from th3 garage to the house after coming home, we were walking to the house, and I said "let's go, Massimo!!" And he said, "let's go, let's go!!" And was rushing me to the house). He is blind in one eye, can't cook / clean / bathe himself, needs help with going to the bathroom, he is unable to properly play with toys designed for 18 - 24 month old babies, he just pushes whatever buttons he can figure out make noise or music, and just bashes on them all day. Thing is, he communicates very well. We know what mood he's in, whenever my husband and I go out to Los Angeles for a visit, as soon as he sees us his face lights up and he gets the biggest grin, and literally cries when we leave. We know what mannerisms he uses to hug us / tell us he loves us and missed us / etc... all of it. Gabey reminds me so much of a young, higher functioning version of my brother in law and Gabey has a VERY special place in my heart.

Tears of joy running down my cheeks and thankful that Gabe and Nick, the Safier family, are getting well deserved acknowledgement of your videos. Thank you for sharing the interview with us, as I was disappointed that I could not find it anywhere on the internet (I am not local to New York, I live in Michigan). I love how the station crew included Gabe in the process and that they treated him as an equal, and how the interviewer made sure to have Gabe as active in the interview as Nick.
The Safier family are beautiful people that everyone can take lessons from to being better human beings. Gives me hope that the world can become a much better place with wonderful role models that Gabe, Nick, Kira, Mom, Dad - aka cameraman, and Grandma are. God has truly blessed you all with one another.
