Steve that was a very nice install , u made good time . I like your style of measuring your sheet metal and going to try your method on my next install . Thank u for taking your time and recording this video I enjoyed it alot . Also liked Ralphs idea with the zip screw into the sheet metal roll , great idea.
***** i do the good ,bad ,and ugly all in a days work .the harder ones i start earlyer in the day . that will be the day i need someone to hold my hand .. i always work alone ,if someone is there there just in my way .. lead, follow or get out of the f...ing way
***** the new guy you need to teach them ,,,there {all know it alls }at the age of 18 .you forgot more then the new guy will ever know lol.the new guys need 2 guys to change out the furnace i say fuck that .i will out work these guy guys anyday .. get out of my way ..i will get her done .. like my father did back in the day .the old guys know how to work . we were shown how buy our for fathers .the young guys need 2 guys to whip there asses and take a shit .. give me a break
You obviously will since you a grandpa , I got hired to help out and run some pipes by a contractor yesterday the guys get mad I ain't know shit and asking the man in charge why they hired me the new bee to the trade and to the trade , what's the problem with young guys wanting to learn the fucking job , yes you have new bees that claim they are the shit after the 2nd week but then you have kids like me trying to learn the trade and be just as good as you grandpas, we look up to you guys I don't get why you guys think we are better then you guys , we learn every day from you guys , we are paying homage to you guys by learning from you guys , give us a break , we have to start somewhere
Nice! That old furnace was a curse last time I did one. Same set up, sliced the back side of my hand open (to inspect the veins) on that little corner of the plenum. Still have scar canyon!
Great job steven lavimoniere tight space to work in but you always find away. Thanks for taking the time to do the video. I learn a lot from you. Thanks.
Thank you sooooo much for this video!!!!! I had zero problems installing my furnace after watching it. I have zero HVAC experience and this video made it easy. I even had to build a insane box from the duct to the furnace and this video gave me the knowledge to tackle it with no issues. Thanks again!!!!
Excellent video, great instal time, Love the full length video, you get a good feel for all the stages. This is why this guy got voted number one Learned another few top tips. Thanks Steve
Tremendous job Steve. It amazes me some of the tight spaces you work in . As a builder, I realize real estate (floor space sq ft) is a premium, but man, we always try to design and build mechanical and electrical closets/spaces to allow for at least 3 feet clearance around all equipment.. most of the time more.. Mechanical rooms are our preference with plenty of free space,, makes for a nicer mechanical installation and allows for more room for maintenance and equipment change-out.. Top notch job you do,, a lot of mechanical folks would have camped out there for a couple of days.. damn fine job Steve. damn I am cold and shivering after watching this video,, shit it looks cold as Siberia there man,, you are definitely one of us old work horses that don't give up on a job. big thumbs up there on this install steve
Awesome video. I am absolutely floored you did all that in 6 hours by yourself. That is truly amazing. I am sure the customer was extremely pleased to have heat back when it was 7 degrees!! Thank you for posting!
excellent video Steve I been watching your videos for along time that's the reason why I be came HVAC Technician I have a question were can get the sheet metal tool the you using in this video thanks
I wish I could pay you for some HVAC consultation in Cincinnati. I would value your advice. My furnace was diagnosed with small cracks in the 11 yr old Amana heat exchanger around where the heat tubes connect to the back wall. Like a compression seal to the aluminum has slightly cracked on a couple tubes. Saw with a Technician using a scope. Amana has a LT warranty on heat exchanger but hvac company wants 2300 to swap heat-exch, 3500 to replace whole furnace with another new Amana, or 13,500 for a new heat and AC - Ruud w 10 yr warranty. Or look elsewhere. Steve, and maybe even Miss Mollie would know what to do, but I'm not feeling good about my options.
great job steve. i was doing a change out as well(70k btu 80%) the same.. only it too me 9 hours , it was in a really tight space and was working on my knees for the better part of the job. You made out like a bandit on that job huh? thats the way to do it! talk to ya soon.
Some very fine sheet metal work Steve. I especially liked the X pattern you did, very nice, I never realized how easy that could be done, and it makes for a great professional look. Sheet metal is not my forte!
Aw Steve, you pulled a "This Old House" trick on us, showed us the easy parts (back and sides of that plenum) but not the tricky part - the front!. How did you get that front panel on, just screw it to the sides or did you bend open the S locks to get it in then bend them flat again?
nice job. :) my gramma got a new propane furnace about 3 years ago. before she had a oil furnace, propane costs less then oil. + the oil furnace was at the end of its life.
steven lavimoniere its got all the power she'll ever need. it heats the house up real good. so far shes happy with it, & she dont have to keep buying parts like she had to with the old oil furnace.
great job and thanks for the video, I have question for u, I worked with many contractors and no one of them take the fan out, do you take it out to fix the return air inlet easier? or taking the fan out is not in all furnace installation cases, just sometimes?
just wanna add, i see You use Your hands when bending metal with the Hansler, don't know about You but it hurts my hands a bit when i do that, so i use a hand seamer, just grab the bender and makes much easier. You're the man Steve
What adjustments could you have made to have brought it within the parameters of the cheat sheet? Add a bit more gas= a bit higher CO, higher CO2, higher Temp discharge, lower draft?, lower O2, and an increase in the temperature rise. speeding up the fan could offset to high of a temp rise without effecting the combustion but could help out on the discharge temp a bit….what other adjustments do you have besides gas pressure and fan speed at your disposal?
Nice install, only thing I would have done different is break/couple of metal pieces around the filter with s/drive side. slid in filter. Nice metal work..Cold up there so I know I would have hurried.Good JOB
Great video. You did a good job. Question you don't insulate the duct work. I very much liked your video, you do good Orkney for a one man show LOL. Thanks Steve.
I didn't see the top of your supply plenum, don't you install a canvas connection? Wouldn't it make the sheet metal easier? Also, would you bend your own transition on the job if an install needed one or measure it up at the job and make the sheet metal at home with your Pittsburgh machine and brake?
Kevin Johnson i custom fit all my stuff on the job ..as i do my replacement .. thats how i like to do it.. no canvas flex on supply or return on this job
steven lavimoniere The canvas connection is code for both the supply and return in our neck of the woods. The inspector wouldn't have let it pass. The state also tried banning the 80% efficient furnace early last year but it didn't pass.
Hey Steve, a nice job like your sheet metal skills a lot of guys butcher that part, when making the back piece I would take the 1" bends and about halfway up notch a v out so the metal can give a little flex to get it in, and one other thing how come you didn't change the gas cock?
In one of your videos, i noticed you removed the refrigerant using some nifty pump before replacing the furnace. Is that really necessary if the ac lines to the ac coils (the part that sits on top of the furnace) do not need to be extended ?
That one was tighter than a bulls nuts in the bullrushes. You use banded couplings, check gas pressure, and do a combustion test:) Around here most use merchant couplings (just a leak in waiting), don't set gas pressure just turn it on and run. Its nice to see you care.
Aaron May its called a hendler bender . you can buy them online . look it up on youtube mr hendler did a video on it back in the day he is die now and his daughter sells them .. its worth the money to get one .ever if its just for cross breaking the sheet metal
how do you slide in that final front piece of sheet metal with s-lock all around? do you bend out the s-lock far enough so that you can just put it in and then bend the s-lock back over it? I'm pretty sure you can't just bend a cross broke piece easily. Thanks.
Thanks for a quick response. That's what I thought. Not everyone uses slock on the bottom at the furnace. It looks better with it though. You do good work. Thanks for uploading videos they're really omformative.
I have this same looking furnace. Its a Tappan. We had a metal roof put on and they busted the chimney out and installed a new vent but I didnt trust the vent so I bought a CO alarm and that fucker went off so I’m getting a new one in a couple days
Impressive work Steve! I don't do sheet metal work so it was interesting to see it done.
heavydiesel sheetmetal is part of the trade here

justin henning we all work differently .this way works good for me .fast and easy . no screw ups ..
Nice install man! Like that you are considerate with that gas line. Shows professionalism!
Benjiman Mckillop best to get the gas pipe out of the way .. better for service in the future
you really knocked that out, steven lavimoniere 5 hours solo install isn't too bad even for a younger guy.

Arnie Grote they sell them at the supply houses up my way ..this one came from plumbers supply
Steve have you done a video how to install a electric furnace.
your truck is god lol i love that stock i could never have a truck that size though where i live
+All White i believe in a well stocked truck
Steven where did you get the tool your bending your metal with . I see that way you don't need a sheet metal brake too
+ducklandwikeno ruclips.net/video/0uiesLymPp0/видео.html

Nice tidy install man

Nice clean install thanks for posting
Why dont use tape measure to build plenum instead put the piece inside and do the marks?
Love that new furnace smell
That one was tighter than a bulls nuts in the bullrushes.
You use banded couplings, check gas pressure, and do a combustion test:)
Around here most use merchant couplings (just a leak in waiting), don't set gas pressure just turn it on and run. Its nice to see you care.
wgenerotzky always good to check gas pressure .and set manifold pressure to proper specks
could you go over that paper you hold up to the testo 320 when doing the combustion test?
Who makes that bending bar?
Great video, what is the purpose of the cross break in the ductwork?
badillo509 so the ductwork don't pop on startup or shut down
The cross bracing adds strength and rigidity to the otherwise floppy metal.
great one man operation,,,,,,,,,,,''''''you # 1 ....................................
Babaji Fahim i just make it happen ..
Great Job!

how do you slide in that final front piece of sheet metal with s-lock all around? do you bend out the s-lock far enough so that you can just put it in and then bend the s-lock back over it? I'm pretty sure you can't just bend a cross broke piece easily. Thanks.
+Kris 82 the final piece i have to open up the s lock then fold it back down and screw it its a bit tricky
Thanks for a quick response. That's what I thought. Not everyone uses slock on the bottom at the furnace. It looks
better with it though. You do good work. Thanks for uploading videos they're really omformative.
