    Great info. I’m in the market for a mini and this video helps me understand some of the wear items I should look at on a used machine. Camarata has track replacement down to a low effort art. He uses the machine for 95% of the effort.

    The Kubota WS manual specifies 30w motor oil is added to the rollers through that allan wrench plug. 80cc's for the KX040 rollers. The carrier roller assembly doesn't specify adding oil, but under fluid capacities, it shows that it takes the same 30w motor oil.

    • @NealORussa
      @NealORussa  3 года назад +2

      Hey Steve I appreciate the comment! It prompted me to go back through my WSM for the KX71-3. It states similar information. SAE30w oil. The front idler gets 75cc. The bottom track rollers get 80cc and the top carrier roller gets 60cc. I think most of the ones i replaced were too-far-gone for new oil, but i might check that on my front idlers and see if i can get them to quiet down! Thanks again!

      Nice! I think someone mentioned previously you might be able to just loosen the track and pry it down far enough to change out a roller instead of removing the entire track. But make sure to check you top while you're at it! I couldn't believe how toast mine were!

    Hi Neal i just watched your video ,i would suggest that you let all the grease out of the front idler ram to make it to remove and replace the track , as it looked like the idler could have went back further into the track frame i normally put the back of the bucket against the track and push the idler in , as for the noise your front idler may have a piece of rock jammed between the idler and the idler frame as this happens to my 5.5 tonne kubota when you had the track off you can remove the idler and frame just by pulling the idler forward with your hands and then you can check for rocks caught or if you leave it and it is a rock it will wear down and drop out and the noise will stop hope this helps

      Can the rollers going bad cause the tracks to not want to turn?

    • @NealORussa
      @NealORussa  4 года назад

      Hey Travis i just saw this comment! I would say if rollers are not spinning, that would really make the tracks not want to spin. But it could also be your drive motor. I would lift the tracks off the ground and try to spin them without weight on them and see if the motor is having issues spinning by itself. When its in the air you can probably check most all of your rollers as well.

    While you have the track off, check the drive sprocket spokes for wear. When the teeth get thin or sharp, time to replace. $100-$160 per sprocket.

    • @NealORussa

      Thankfully my sprockets are still in good shape! It appears those are fairly easy to replace by removing some bolts holding the sprocket to the final drive.

    You can replace just the bearings TIMKEN 6206-2RS in the upper rollers at a fraction of the price of a new roller...The bearings cost about 10 bucks each. Total repair cost 25 bucks at most.

    I realize it’s a bit more money, but if half or more of my rollers were bad, I think I would replace all of them at once. Seems like they reached their lifespan. I hate waiting for the next one to break. Now if money is tight of course only fix what you must. On test drive after repair, it definitely sounded as if you had at least one more bad roller. I think you can replace the rollers without completely removing the track. Just loosen it.

    • @NealORussa
      @NealORussa  3 года назад

      I use it for grading with the smooth bucket and digging trenches mostly. Subscribe to my channel and check out my other videos to see the machine in action! I've taken down some trees, but I really don't like digging stumps with it. Its a good size for me because it does not damage lawns much and its light enough I can haul it with my skid steer on the trailer at the same time. I have been keeping my eyes out for a good deal on a KX121-3 or a KX040. That's the largest machine Kubota makes that has my same quick coupler so all my buckets would still fit. Otherwise you could bump up to the U55, KX057, or KX161.

      I was using older dewalt 18v nicd tools. I have since switched to makita 18v lithium. I am still using my dewalt 18v grease gun with an adapter that converts it to use my new makita batteries. The 3/8 impact is a great tool I use it on almost every project. It's compact and fits a lot of places and so much faster than a ratchet. Thanks for the comment!

    Did you ever find out what was contributing to the remaining noise?

    • @NealORussa
      @NealORussa  4 года назад

      No. I’m assuming it’s the large front idlers. Mainly the left side. But it’s hasn’t been bad enough to bother me anymore. I have pushed and pulled on the idlers and they aren’t loose or wobbly but I’m guessing the bearings don’t have much life left. Those replacements are about $350 each.

    • @NealORussa
      @NealORussa  2 месяца назад

      I maybe with steel straps and bolts like a conveyor belt is mended together. But I would just try to find used tracks off another machine. People usually try to get rid of them because they're so expensive to take to the landfill. I sold my old set for $100 or so if I recall

  • @thespook9808
    @thespook9808 5 лет назад +4

    You worked WAY too hard to put that track back on. Get yourself a cheater bar (3 or 4 foot piece of 2" metal pipe). Lift machine, (with tensioner retracted) and get track on the sprocket end. Get the front mostly lined up with the idler. Insert the cheater behind the idler, lift up on the pipe and slowly run the track forward with the control as you lift with the cheater. It'll drop onto your idler easily. Properly tension your track running it both directions while you have it in the air. You don't need to "horse" the track at all this way and it lines itself up naturally as it's supposed to be. I'm nearly 66, have been in excavating all my life, and have a bad back. It takes me under 10 minutes to handle a track in the field alone.

    • @NealORussa
      @NealORussa  5 лет назад

      The Spook thanks for the advice. I’ll try that next time I have the tracks off and report back. I think it could have gone much smoother with two people! One person to run track while I use a crowbar.
