American light whiskey could be just about any mashbill. What makes it "light" is that it's aged in used barrels rather than new, and can have higher barrel entry proofs.
To my knowledge they're discontinuing OGD114 and it will allow for more expansion of bottles - like the Baker's 107 high rye. Probably just a 107 proof OGD.
@@TheBourbonWrench Maybe. Apparently some states are selling Baker's for 40 and 50$? Baker's 7+ single barrel. In Ohio it is like a 70$ bottle! 107 proof high rye Baker's 7 single barrel I would see going for at least a similar tag as the red Baker's 7. The green label might be a little bit more if it's MIN 7 years and high rye, but it could be the same or less if it's CONSISTENTLY 7-year age stated.
So…107 proof, 7yr old OGD in a Baker’s bottle? Sign me up! Calumet 14, 15,16 and 17 is a constant reminder of why 1792 12yr is so hard to come by. I have the 10, Decadence and 13yr Widow Jane! Great job they did blending those bottles. 5 finishes on a 99 Rye? I’m sure that they are finishing this in separate parts and blending afterwards. Penelope is happy to have its pick of the MGP litter and not have to pay out the arse for it. Great video as always Trev! Happy hunting!!!
I'm most excited for the Calumet because I'll probably actually see it and because they are consistently awesome. As much as I like Bernheim, I bet the Penelope will be great. Don't sleep on Redemption, nerd. They put out good stuff and the price is right.
As far as I understand Light whiskey has nothing to do with the mash bill. Bourbon must be distilled below 160 abv and can’t be entered into the barrel above 125. Light is distilled to 160-190 and can be barreled that high. Light may also not have the new oak requirement
Yeah that’s true. I guess what I was trying to get it is it’s just been predominantly corn mashbills we’ve seen in light whiskey. At least the ones I have!
Small quibble: it's classified as a shochu rather than a whisky, though it is all grain (rice). It is native to Okinawa. It varies in proof, often not high enough to really be a whisky as well. It's not usually barreled though, as far as I know? So...odd.
I mean, is it a barrel typically used for finishing? The fact that’s in the mix of all those other barrels just seems weird. I feel like all the nuance will be lost
The only one I would scour for is the OKI 15. Not even sure they sell that stuff up in Wisconsin. We’re just starting to see Fortuna and other Rare Character products.
@@noworldforeric apparently they do sell it at a store in Milwaukee but that’s too far of a drive from where im at to roll the dice & see if its on the shelf 😅
From what I’ve seen, that bottle will be next to impossible. Hardly any of it made and most of it will go to friends, bars, and people who do very nasty things in alleys
Nerd!! Calumet 17 minimum $250 mark it!! The Ancients Redemption...just the name alone screams $300, mark that. 20 yr Widow Jane $300+ without a doubt!! These friggin people are out of their minds!!!
I honestly feel like a lot of these “craft guys” are coming into the realm of next level stuff, and these dudes who’ve been doing the same crap and getting away with it will finally have stiff competition. Bet you’re right. One last cash grab
The Widow Jane Opal KY source is almost certainly heaven hill as that's who owns widow jane now.

It is distilled to a higher proof too: 160-190 proof.
But I feel like I haven’t seen any other mash bill other than high corn!

I agree. But also, I bet it’ll be rebranded AND more expensive lol

Cheers brother (from the parking lot)
Hey Trev! Try the Redemption 9yr. Really really good. The 18yr is gonna be 🔥🔥🔥
I’ll have to try some of their stuff!
I'm most excited for the Calumet because I'll probably actually see it and because they are consistently awesome.
As much as I like Bernheim, I bet the Penelope will be great.
Don't sleep on Redemption, nerd. They put out good stuff and the price is right.
I’ll check them out! Either I’ve looked over them or just don’t get them here. But I’ll go look!
Thanks for helping me nerd out!
I only helped by showing you what we won’t get 🤣
I’m excited for the Penelope and the Calumet.
I need that calumet big time
Sounds like these all maybe over priced and impossible to find at retail. Thanks for the info Trev!
Yep, all semi pointless lol. Maybe get 1 or 2. Or none with my luck!

Trev!! Good to see you buddy.
Woo drew! How you doing brother?! Good to see you man! Hope you’re doing amazing!!
Saw the Weller Millennium for $7,000 and OFC for $2,000. 🥃
I was offered an OFC way back when, they wanted $4000 lol
Ngl I’d buy OFC at $2k if I could 😅
Going to be looking for the Penelope for sure the 9 year was fantastic. Don’t look for anything over 150 so a bunch I won’t be looking for.
Awamori is a Japanese whiskey made from long grain rice

WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
Cheers ya NERD
Based on prices of the current Widow Jane 15yr I can already say this new 20yr one will be a pass.
I’m excited to see a $500+ msrp price tag
Hats off to Jim Beam and Penelope, everyone else can suggitt.
Right there with you!
Yoyoyo Wrench throwing it down
Every time baby!

@@TheBourbonWrench I'm guaranteed to get one then. FOR THE LOW. (Bar friend who does very nasty things in an alley.)
I'm betting they finally discontinue OGD 114 and funnel that stuff into the more expensive Baker's High Rye.
...and maybe Old Tub.
I’ve heard rumors. I’ll investigate. But o betcha you’re spot on
Supposedly (via beam employees) ogd 114 is here to stay and old tub is going to be gone.

For what the OFC cost it better be a massage with a happy ending 😂🤣😎🥃
For that price, they’ll also force you to give them a happy ending lol

Nope. You’re last.
