The story of my life. I have been naturally generous my whole life and it has brought me nothing but shame and frustration. I live a hermit life now. I am done with people all together. Because I never found the wisdom I needed to balance my kindness.

@@Survivalguy In fairness, your statement of "I am done with people all together" suggests bitterness. I don't suspect they were merely trying to be mean since they also note resonating with your comment.
I, too, hope you find the wisdom to be kind and generous again without experiencing any shame or frustration.
Too often I think people associate their kindness with being a personal sacrifice, when it should be every bit as beneficial and rewarding to yourself as those around you. If it isn't, then I hope others follow your same example and attempt to better understand themselves first.

@@thelifespirit I think quite the opposite, and it really brightens my world.
Based on what we see around us, it seems that remorse, change, kindness, and generosity are practically the norm for humanity. Rather, the success or attention those who aren't bring to themselves makes news far more often and makes us think their poison is commonplace. If it weren't, we simply wouldn't have made it this far. :) One day maybe we'll beat it all together, but until then we'll just have to keep on being kind--within our means.

It is extremely important to protect ourselves because if we lose ourselves, people will lose one helper or kind person who can help thousands. Yes, its an amazing story. Please allow me to interrupt. I feel Buddhists should know this. I do research on how Buddhism disappeared in Bihar. I realized it never disappeared from Bihar. Buddhists simply failed to research Indian Buddhism. They looked at Buddhism through the sphere of their own cultures searching for only the Buddha. Buddha had a myriad of names in different villages according to his teachings there. Example. His favorite teaching was 'Lust and desire causes pain. Remove lust and desire, and pain is removed'. Translated into Bihari (where the Buddha story took place) it is DHUKH HARAN meaning to remove dukha. Three dozen villages pray to DUKH HARAN Baba. Its clear that DUKH HARAN Baba is none other than the Buddha. Problem is Buddhists are searching only for the Buddha. In the real Vaishali the Buddha begged for alms. The locals there pray to 'BHIKHAINI' Baba (Beggar Baba). Bhikhaini was mispronounced by Buddhists as Bhikshu. Who is BHIKHAINI Baba. The Buddha no doubt. But people are searching for a man called Buddha. In the real Vaishali, in Beluha the Buddha suffered a sickness and felt he had grown old. The locals pray to 'BURHA' Baba (Old Baba). Who is BURHA Baba. The Buddha no doubt. In the real Vaishali the Lichavies pressurized Buddha not to die. They trailed him to Bandagawan pressurizing him not to die. To put pressure in Hindi is DABESHWAR. Three dozen villages around the stupa where Buddha gave the Lichavies his patra, the villagers pray to Baba 'DABESHWAR NATH' meaning the man who won the pressurizing game. It was the the Buddha no doubt as he gave the Lichavies his patra and succeded in sending them back. But Buddhists are searching for the Buddha. Forgive me for commenting out of the topic. Beautiful sharing. Thank you. People come into our lives to teach us lessons. The scammers, narcissists, betrayers etc. Many are learning the lesson of how not to be deceived and manipulated. Wisdom and discernment is key in knowing when to say "no ". And listening to our intuition we are also guided by our inner voice/self when something is not 'right' or 'false'. Becoming more conscious and aware is necessary. And after learning the lessons we too can share with others how not to be deceived and manipulated. This is how we grow spiritually and be of service to others. 🙏❤

I’m glad I saw this video this morning. I needed to see this video years, decades, ago! Before I knew what it was to “Have a heart, but be SMART!”. However, it is still on time, because it assures me now, today, that I’m doing the right thing in having found balance. BOUNDARIES and DISCERNMENT = WISDOM 😊I’m so much stronger in protecting “what is precious”, which a kind heart is. I still have my faults as there’s some very deceptive, evil people who know how to get close to you. “Beware of wolves in sheep’s clothing .” Or see it another way, “Though you’re clothed as a sheep beware of the wolves who hunt you.” Finally “Although be harmless as a dove, be as WISE as the snake that hunts you.” Getting trampled and depleted can leave a closed heart full of bitterness and resentment, and shame for having allowed ourselves to be eaten alive by the advantageous. Distributing love, kindness, should not hurt!

But when I need their help to move house, none of them were willing to help me despite my support for them throughout the years. That sadden me, and from then onward, whenever they ask me for IT support or other menial work support, I will turn them down.
The final straw came when I have doubts about my religion after decades in the church, so I went through a phase of unbelief. And because of that, everyone there cut their ties with me. Imagine having being their friends for over 2 decades and they can drop me like a hot brick. I came to realize that we are all alone in this world. Everyone is out to make use of you. None of them deserve my help.

Damn… I really needed to hear this…
Wisdom lies in knowing when to give and when to withhold.
I’m so excited to use everything I learned in this video just because I’m naturally a kind and giving person and honestly I don’t want to change that about myself but I didn’t need to stop being kind and generous… I just needed stronger boundaries.
Because true kindness is about balance!

Always helping other means you are robbing them of their chance to learn how to help themselves, you are not allowing them to grow from their situations in life and their troubles. Sometimes saying No to helping people is allowing them to help themselves and grow from it. Like not comforting people who are angry or sad or upset and allow them to find their own way out of it while sending the message that you will be there to help or listen if need be but be firm that they must find their own way and strength and their own answers.
    Thanks for this.

I have been too kind myself too and the world was brutal to me. My family took advantage of my kindness and used me to the extent they could. My so called friends never appreciated me for everything I had done for them. The work colleagues had exploited me and literally drained me of all energy - got all the work done and tossed me aside like I never mattered to them.
I wish I came across this wisdom a long time ago. I am unable to change my attitude toward people and I know that this compassion, kindness will be the end of me - I am unable to limit the generosity or the kindness with which I look at another living being. How unfortunate.

      Same with me!
My boss gave me all the work which my colleagues didn’t want to do, and I tried to do everything immediately to please my boss and my colleagues.
And when I asked my colleagues something they always said they have no time for me but continued further chatting with some female colleagues.
And I never asked for more salary when I was working 14 years in that company because my boss never shouted me and it was enough to keep me happy.
Also I did help a lot of people with all the money I earned.
I did also lend money to be able to help others because one Buddhist monk told that helping others until it hurts.
In the end when I have no money left I asked the people which I helped but they denied me with a lot of reasons why they can’t help me.
I was so depressed lately and live a hermit live now doing grocery once every 2 weeks buying only some rice, noodles of flour.
Please send me some loving energy to restart 😢!

One should set boundaries to protect inner self. In today’s society more people suffer and depressed because of not setting boundaries and getting hurt more either by same or different people, who take advantage of them. Don’t feel bad for saying no. Even if others make you feel guilty Ignore and live your life peacefully.

I TOTALLY agree "Kind Without Wisdom Leads to Suffering"
Had experienced it myself, I was always kind to my friend but in the end I am always taken advantage of and they even treat me like servant. I am even been hurt very deeply by my own family member and I also experienced Domestic Violence.
I am DONE with being too kind.
I always hear people saying :
"Keep Being Kind Even if They Hurt You"
"Return Evil with Kindness" etc..... bla bla bla
All of that saying is BS for me.
Return evil with kindness is called EXPLOITATION. It already more than good that I did not take revenge to all the people that hurt me. I just move on.
I really HATE this saying "Return Evil with Kindness"
That's why I LIKE Budhha's Teaching (Full of Compassion but Wise, Logical and Realistic with Life).
I will keep being Kind BUT with My OWN WAY.
    Good Video, Thankyou 🙏🌻
May All Being Can Live in Peace and be Liberate from All Kinds of Suffering🙏🙏♥

Most religions are a cult they don't teach, they force their bullshit onto others.
Many religions say "be kind and give us money/food/shelter etc" that's manipulation for greeds sake when they have food, shelter etc.
I've seen what being kind does to a person. My own mother always puts others before herself and then she is left with little else... Her words "I always put myself last" I've explained to her over and over "you keep giving because you choose too. You've trained yourself too be that way because of your childhood. You can unlearn it if you want" she doesn't listen.
Yet she still hasn't and still complains. I silently watch.
I've learnt from her and my experiences in this world that being kind offers your throat to the cunts of this world. This world moves aside for assholes I've noticed... So an asshole I've become it works.
I'm not pushed around or fucked about as I used too be. I'm kind when necessary and only when necessary.
