Fun Fact: If there are Hammer Bros in the audience, they will always immediately throw hammers at Mario if he messes up the input for a hammer attack.

14:40 I like how Mario just watches a brutal mugging happening and doesn't even react. Showing that Brooklyn spirit.
Lolol, I noticed that when I started playing it, it's a small detail they added in the remake and I love it lmao

I love that Vinny's characterisation of Paper Mario is just this little gremlin that runs around hitting things and saying "fuck you"

To be fair, that's not too far off from how some of the various Mario RPGs kind of characterize him.
I call him Passive Aggressive Italiano
I love it that he only appears only in Mario RPGs
The paprika Mario prequel we deserve
I mean that’s literally what he does in origami king ngl lmao.
I really like the new expressions they gave all the characters in the remake, really gives them more of their personalities
Also the ‘chatter’. In the original it was just the same sound for everyone when they spoke. In this one they kind of babble distinctly like in Banjo Kazooie or Animal Crossing.
it's SO GOOD
I am in love with the remake honestly, paying close attention to detail and seeing how everything looks now, the added visual clarity, etc, it's amazing
I appreciate all the changes and additions so much, it's my favorite gamecube game but so much better
Removed bunny ears, gonna have to pirate 😔
It's weird to see characters to see the characters move so smoothly instead of just ending an animation and staying frozen in place. And the fact that characters have more than 2 sprites is amazing.
Yeahhhh stuff like that is what this game deserved

34:43 Vinny doesn't even have to say the second word in that meme, he just has to say "me?" at that specific pitch and I already see Zack in my head.
1:03:34 Very bold of Nintendo to put the actual Sans Undertale in Paper Mario
I'm so glad I'm not the only person that heard that! 😂
@@nattykitkatty If you look at the Chat Replay of this VOD, Twitch chat already heard it.
Wait what? You can hit random people now? This is a great remake.
You can also hit your friends!
When you get robbed in the beginning, I learned that exact thing by hammering the thief out of spite and was surprised he actually got hit and crumpled. Very neat.
and they react to it. that's attention to detail we didn't get on gamecube. The gamecube also couldn't make the game look this pretty either.
It’s also the only currently known way to do text storage
Goombella is such a savage, I swear between all her tattles she manages to insult almost every NPC in the game. I always hear her with a valley girl accent, seems like that's how they wrote her, as a stereotypical sorority girl lol
I can kind of imagine her being voiced by Cree Summer
@@ChaseHyaena omg I thought I was the only one
I always headcanon her voice as Tiff from Kirby: Right Back At Ya
Goombella's favorite place is 100% Starbucks.
I was a little disappointed that they dropped this one amazing part where those goombas who fight you in the first fight in the sewers flirts with Goombella and she essentially tells them that guys like them make her want to gag, but then she’s still just as quick to insult them in the new version, and she’s verbally ready to throw hands at any moment. It’s part of why tattling all the enemies is a requirement when I play through
Fun fact: apparently this game sold so well they ran out of physical coppies and had to delay pre orders. So many people want this gane that they ran out of coppies. I found that out the hard way myself.
mine got shipped the next day even though i pre-ordered it
Lets hope the next few weeks sells really well so that Nintendo can finally get kicked into Gear and understand what style of Paper mario works the best.

One QoL change that's super underappreciated is how save blocks are updated. In the original you needed to go through FOUR dialogue boxes, including a choice whether you actually wanted to save (and they were slow too, since the Gamecube memory card isn't the fastest thing in the world). Here you bop the block, wait a second, and you're done, only needing to read TWO WORDS. Excellent streamlining of something you'll probably do hundreds of times over a playthrough.
You don't even have to read the words, it saves without reading them as well!
more watering down for the zoomers...
Does the bandit only stealing half of your coins instead of all of them also count as QOL?
@@EthVortexShielddidn't he always steal only half of your coins? and if you immediately went to the back alley behind the shop and the inn you could get your coins back?
@@EthVortexShield He always only stole half of your coins. Actually, in the original, Goombella would immediately tell you that you got robbed, whereas in the remake you can completely miss it if you don't pay attention to the coin counter.
I honest to god never realized the shop toads have mustaches, I thought they were just in a permanent state of D: for some reason
For some reason when I was younger, and in the N64 game, I mistook the eyes of the koopa enemies as grandma hair 😂

I miss the screen shatter that happens after activating the map. Idk why
It's weird how the music was made so intense, but they downplayed that effect.
guess its for the people who are photo sensitive?
They also got a rid of the 4 blinks for the curse chest, its just a lil lightning bolt that hits mario now.
Perhaps my favorite game of all time. From the engaging and addictive combat, to the bizarrely deep and mature Mario story, to the fun and unique characters and places.
This game is really something special and it’s exciting for so many new people to be exposed to it.
This game definitely has problems but it does surprisingly deal with topics few Mario games acknowledged. Those who played those games know what I'm talking about.

It's a shame they have to play this mangled version though.
@@john_smith_john”Mangled” if you’re disgustingly nostalgia blind, yeah!
I honestly ADORE the remake. It's ironed out just about any issues you could have with the original. And the overwhelming care that has gone into this is astounding. Even the sound design has been thoroughly updated! Glad the reviews have reflected that so far. This game is one of a kind!
Grew up never owning a gamecube so now i finally get to experience this game for the first time and man it's been fun so far.
Johnny missclicked the upload time?
A win for other chat.
I found the NPCs being more expressive in this remake a nice touch
and they have a back sprite! That's something the old version was missing!
i was a little bit worried that the expressiveness would happen less in the later areas, but it's like really consistent for the whole game. it feels like almost every character has unique sprites, i love it so much
There’s so much expression in this remake that makes you like the characters even more
and if you guys haven't noticed them yet, everyone has a back sprite now! More content even if it's just Quality of life stuff is always nice.
Also starting with 15 starting item slots is awesome.
It obviously depends on what it is, but a little cynicism is healthy I think. The problem is when that's all you are. It's not even necessarily about whether they are right or wrong about something, but it really can poison you and drag the mood down for others. I hate when this is stated and you hear someone respond along the lines of "you shouldn't question anything, accept what everyone tells you, and smile forever". You can be cynical and feel anger about things without it controlling your life. I refuse to accept that being permanently angry is good for anyone's mental state. There's a balance.
Thank you for saying this
Wow, I didn't expect to see a poignant life lesson in the funny bing bing wahoo RPG video
I *really* like all the detail they added into this remake. You can see it as early as the introductory scenes, like how Mario and Goombella actually *look* at the mugging happen instead of it just being a background event. Not to mention, with the extra power of the Switch, characters are *way* more expressive as a result, able to give way more emotions in things like dialogue. While the framerate has been sliced to 30, I feel like you can look past it. The music is REALLY good as well; even if it feels like they took too much of a note from Origami King.
Oh, take a listen to the background music itself, too. Not only are there new battle themes for each chapter, but there are even new themes for the partners!
I absolutely love origami kings soundtrack so it doesn’t bother me too much that they are very much using inspiration from that game when remixing the old tunes
51:50 Bro went from 😈 to 🤓
I hope Vinny enjoys the remake and all the new and small details they’ve added from different voice chatter for each character, small battle theme renditions depending on the area you’re in and the new Battle Toad NPC that lets you practice battle techniques.
I love the picture in Mario's house with the previous partners

Crazy that we’ve reached a point where games that are 20 years old aren’t little pixel games but games you could play today and be fine playing
Isn't it insane? There will always be dissatisfied gamers, and sometimes rightly so, but I personally feel so lucky to be alive during a time when games are such a diverse form of media
That’s called getting old pal.
@@bobbrossify no it really isn’t, technology has plateaued a bit. Plus I’m not old 🤓

Pretty sure we'll hit a glass ceiling soon
Paper Mario: "We're Going To Pretend Sticker Star, Color Splash, and Origami King Didn't Happen By Remastering" Thousand Year Door.
True, although Origami King was good in my opinion.
it's not just a remaster. there is new fights.
They are absolutely not pretending origami king didn’t exist with this kickass ost and minor Origami king gimmicks in overworld stuff (bonking people now and lil dialogue blips)
@@powerfullpummel6417yeah for as much as origami king did wrong I absolutely loved it’s visual and musical style. It was so fun and grand, I loved it
Sticker Star was definitely the catalyst for the newer paper Mario games, but honestly it's got some of the best music in the series. Still pretty meh as an rpg though
Once again somehow people are shocked that a remake remakes a game.
55:25 The merchant is canonically Beldam trying to Lure Peach to the Shadow Queen to be used as a vessel.
As a massive Pap Mayonaise 2 fan, this remake is insanely good. Just about everything got expanded upon in ways just subtle enough to not change the atmosphere, but enhance it. The badge to revert the music back to the original is great too
Okay Nintendo. Make the real game we want from this. Make Paper Luigi.
i think some guy on gamebanana already did that, or at least is trying that
Thatd be fun as like a expansion, just fucking deep frying a blooper teammate by sacrificing his ass like a yoshi

I’m Canadian and don’t remember that :P
I’m also not the most politically involved person though so…
When my only complaint is that i kind of miss some of the original sound effects, you know that its a damn good remake
I'm sad about the lack of fuzzy sounds
I miss the “cricket noises” which really just sounded like someone shaking a jar full of beads. The frog noise doesn’t do it for me…
honestly that isn't really a good excuse to play the old game over this.
This one has 15 starting items, TTYD gamecube had 10 starting.
This one is pretty, the old one is decent, but gamecube is not that strong, they only could do so much in the early 2000s.
everyone actually has a back sprite now. At least everyone that would make sense to make one for.
the music, sometimes goes really hard and it sounds really good.
Just wait till you hear the best tracks it has to offer. it's great.
@TheUltimateRare item slots make no difference in the world to me, I think the paper aesthetic is painted on way too thick in this game, and I think most of the tracks are over orchestrated in a way that distracts from the simple straightforward memorable melodies of the original
It looks like a great remake but I think the original is equally viable as a preferred way to play the game
Not criticizing the updated graphics, they look nice in a lot of ways, but I do want to know why John Nintendo decided that _paper_ was the ideal material for screen space reflections
Tbf, there are various reflective types of paper. I’ve seen highly glossy magazine paper as an example.
If you're wondering, TTYD is based of paper diaramas,
Wich are often coated in a slightly reflective finish to preserve them better and just because it's shiny.
That's why the floors are shiny.
@@chelsicalhoun6266 It's just a little inconsistent from a design perspective, imo. Like, if they wanted to emulate real world materials to some degree, then I can get behind the wood on the battle stage being shiny because it evokes that look of a well-polished floor, but then why are all the rocks in the town square really shiny? Conversely, if they wanted to emulate the look of paper, then it makes sense why the grass has that semi-reflective, waxy look to it because I know what kind of paper that is, but then why didn't they take it further and make everything look more like actual paper/cardboard, similar to what Origami King did?
The most obvious answer is probably that they just wanted to make it look a little bit more modern without drastically changing the overall art style, but it's just a small thing I noticed that seems a bit at odds with itself
@@Loop_Kat i think you might just be little too nitpicky with it, but your opinions are valid

You can really tell they put a lot of care and effort into this remake. I genuinely didn’t have high hopes but they really went above and beyond, even the things some people consider worse are subjective and they still put their best intentions into trying to make everything better.
i'm just glad they gave us some new content. they didn't have to make much since this game is already so huge and fleshed out, but it's nice that they added something.
I won't spoil what exactly they added though :)
When vinny read the "professor, what's going on?" part as Mario held the map to the door, I wqs reminded of when my friends and I voiced the orifinal version of this game for fun and the person voicing Frankly yelled "THE WEED IS KICKING IN F U C K" after our goombella asked that, it had me dead and atill kills me, the way he delivered that line-
Huh, Beldam's new voice right away gives away that she's the hooded figure at the start. I didn't know if there was real confirmation it was her, but it's right there now.
To be fair that feels like one of those things that you knowing already makes it more obvious. I'd be very surprised if someone playing for the very first time instantly figured it out. At best they might recognize it but then write it off cause some voices are kinda similar int he game anyway.
@@ShyRanger I heard her voice in pre-release stuff. Until someone actually met her in this version they wouldn't know. I just remember wondering who the mysterious figure was before and getting no real answer.
I believe you actually get subtle confirmation in the first peach intermission, when we see Beldam properly for the first time. There's a short conversation about it, where she says that she would have caught Peach then and there, but there were too many people around iirc.
i think the only confirmation originally is at the end when she tells the shadow queen she gave them the map
There's the whole prologue and first chapter between the first 2 times you hear beldam I'd be surprised if someone was able to connect the dots on their first playthrough
I expected to be distracted and annoyed by the 30 fps but not only do I not notice it, I don't think it even really matters beyond making some action commands slightly easier to hit.

I hate that I live in a timeline where out of all games, this one is controversial. Social media is a blight.
i love when vinny talks about things only staten islanders could relate to
Ive been so excited for this to come out!!!!! Im glad vinnys playing it too. Figured he would but still!!!!
1:22:05 I think the problem is people want to *want* more than they want to *have.* The wanting is such a desperate feverish need of a feeling, so much so that finally *having* is somewhat of a letdown. It’s like, oh, I spent so long thinking about this that anything I receive will never measure up. I think the horror genre also suffers from this but that’s a subject for a different post
vinny thoughts on goombella's ass sprite?
I'm sorry?
@@valerylegasov86 did I fucking stutter? 🤨
I want WayForward to do a new Wario land game.
I am glad Vinny returns with his "Smack talking Mario" voice.
Surprised and glad they kept in the town hanging platform and noose.
Every GameCube game has aged well
Pretty sure Skibidi Biden was their attempt to make fun of them hiring a person to make Memes for his campaign
Fighting cringe with cringe
I'm so, so happy with this remake, as someone who grew up with the original.
