Hello, I have been looking into breathin control and exercises and this is exactly what I needed. Not only you included exercises without clarinet, but I found playing staccato with using the breath support only rather challenging. Thank you for making these videos, they are very helpful!

Hey Selin, amazing explanation. Wish I had seen this many years ago when I started playing the clarinet. You really know how to explain these concepts in a clear and funny way. 😀 Looking forward to have our online lesson tomorrow.

This is really the best explanation for engaging the diaphragm that I have come across. The profile views were very helpful. Thanks

I never knew nor ever was told to inhale like YAWNING until I read of a VOCAL TRAINING technique which explained how to YAWN along with the Ahh sylable to easily open the jaw & throat! I've watched many videos about clarinet & sax techniques & rarely see a teacher mention YAWNING when inhaling!

I Play the Contra Clarinets, do the Same Principles apply to them? At my School we weren't taught air Support correctly, so It's something I'm finding almost Impossible to do, would you happen to have any advice for learning to support my air?

hi selin,i have a question, how much time we need to do this exercise on a day?how much minutes?

    •  Год назад

It depends on you! I’d suggest around 20-25 minutes per day. But you can do it a couple times a day, too

  • @burakmentes
    @burakmentes 4 года назад +2

Whats your suggestion about the last exc with clarinet how many minutes done?

    •  4 года назад +1

Burak Menteş I was practicing it even an hour but if it’s too much you should do it at least 15 minutes or so :)

can it be the disadvantage of using air support to breath more often during your performance ? to my understanding some of the air still stays inside of your lungs ?

Proper air support is the key for circular breathing too.

Hi, Selin. Thanks for your video. I don’t really think , that it’s a good idea always to push your muscles. On my opinion air has to come naturally. Of course diaphragm works really hard at this moment, but you don’t have to push something. Just think about fast and focus air that comes through your resonators in mouth , nose and head.

    •  4 года назад +3

Oleg Shebeta-Dragan Hello :) I really think you should always think to push the abs out until it becomes a reflex. This is what I do and I’m happy with my air support and my tone, plus I see good results with my students when they apply it. Anyways diaphragm can’t push the air out, it’s the other muscles between ribs doing it! Diaphragm is only there for the support, so it should stay stable at the same place. PS: I just wrote an article about diaphragm breathing for my PhD so I searched all the sources I could find and I could talk about it more if you wish 😅🙏🏻

WHen you breath out, you hide your belly with your arm. What are you trying to explain, please? That the stomach continues to stick out while you breath out?

Selin hocam selamlar. Ben sadece karnima nefes alip ufluyorum. Uflerken diyafram kasinida kullanmam mi gerekiyor. Yani karnina nefes al ufle degil herhalde konu.umarim anlatabilmisimdir 😅

Her halukarda nefesi akciğere alıyoruz. Ancak diyafram kasını dışarı iterek nefes almalı ve nefesi verirken de kası dışarı itmeye devam etmeliyiz.
