Very helpful video, thank you! What mouthpiece protector do you use? And what its size (thickness)?

David Noguera I use BG’s patch. It’s normally written BG on it but I remove it. I guess this is 0,8 mm www.amazon.com/BG-A10L-Large-Mouthpiece-Patches/dp/B000XNQD9G
I still don't really understand what exactly needs to be done with the lower lip, so as not to learn how to bite, but to use the muscles. Do I need to use only pink part of my lip to cover theeth, or may I use a bit of red? Maybe my jaw needs to be lower than lip, so only lip stays on the reed? I'm sorry for such a questions, I'm just getting started and my sound in second octave isn't round at all. Trynna learn proper things
Thank you for another excellent video. One quick question: the way you cupped your hand to represent the tongue leaves the tip pointed downward. Shouldn't the tip of the tongue be pointed upward to engage the reed? Thanks again.

No, I don't use the tip of my tongue to play staccato etc :) maybe I should make another video about that
@ I would look forward to that. I've never felt that it was the tip of my tongue that hit the reed although it was the tip that teachers said to use for the best tonguing. Thanks.

Stephen Broll I know, when I explain my method to my students or to all other clarinetists they always feel quite surprised :) But I have a really fast staccato&double staccato and a clean attack, so I suggest it. I’ll make that video in a couple of weeks for sure 😊
Sorry after doing all that, how should you press the reed, raise the teeth together with the lip or press the reed horizontally or vertically, how should the lip touch the reed, that's the whole problem
Hi! I have a problem in the altissimo resgister, where I use to bite too much, but in the other notes I don't do it... Do you have any suggestions? What should I do instead of biting?
4 года назад
Luca Di Turi I’ve already made another videos about the high notes. You should work on the flexibility and you shouldn’t forget that you need faster air and more support in the altissimo register. Make sure that you work on your muscles around your lips enough. If you don’t make the right air support&long tone exercises you wouldn’t improve your sound!
Hi ! İ need one answer , for me its ok find the right embouchure while working just mouthpiece and barrel. İ feel ok. But assembled clarinet and working i can not that comfort. What is the problem maybe holding or another matter. Do u have any idea. And one more thing i place my finger the hole too lightly. This can be reason? Thx. Good job.

What do you think about double lip technique ? Is it good usefull ? I am having problems with my staccato, should i switch to single lip ? I ve only been playing for 3 months
4 года назад
timpash hello, I’ve tried double lip technique only on boxwood which was also difficult to adapt. At the end I think that it’s impossible and unnecessary for me because I’m used to single lip and never saw anyone else playing French system clarinet otherwise. I hope it helps :)
Selin hocam alt dudagimiz gergin mi uflemeliyiz. Cok soru soruyorum yillardir yanlis alistim duzeltmeye calisiyorum. Selamlar hocam. Yanitlarsaniz cok memnun olurum

@ OK, but how you can say that? You tried the Yamaha??? Teeth grip much better on Yahama 0.5mm, to me It's the best! I've also tried BG 0.8mm and Vandoren 0.8mm and teeth don't grip that well! The material used on Yamaha makes It far better!

Georgia Antza I like the texture better on BG and the shape fits better on my mouthpiece (if I understood well which type you talk about) anyways it doesn’t matter just use the one suits you the best.
Çalarken dilimin içerde n değilde v gibi durduğunu farketti.İçerde i sesini düşünmek biraz düzleştiriyor sanki .

I find it difficult to play with my top teeth making contact with the mouthpiece.. why is it important to put the teeth in contact with the mouthpiece?
3 года назад
Because clarinet is a single reed instrument and it’s the most stable and comfortable embouchure like this.
Light485, you may try curli the upper lip just a little beneath your teeth; find a suitable position. Sometimes that little adjustment opens up our oral cavity just enough to have better air support. We all have different anatomy and different configuration of oral cavity, so you must experiment a little.

@@zvonimirtosic6171 I don’t think that it’s a good idea to curl the upper lip. I talk by experience from my colleagues and students who tried it before. I think that you should adjust your equipment instead. Or find the suitable position.
@ Thank you Selin. This is a vast subject, of course. Ricardo Morales nicely explains advantages of double-lip playing (check the video below). But more details can be added to it; ruclips.net/video/VZUOfN-wQEY/видео.html
Thank you so much for these detailed explanations, they are very informative for beginners like me. Your channel is as helpful as that of Michelle Anderson. I wonder whether you ever use double-lip embouchure, at least in practice time. I have encountered it first here on RUclips, in Tom Ridoneur's channel (ruclips.net/video/BD0-a0xJqPA/видео.html). He (and also Ricardo Morales, ruclips.net/video/VZUOfN-wQEY/видео.html). can't praise it enough, particularly as they say it prevents the player from clamping down on the mouthpiece, naturally curls the tongue, and opens up the mouth cavity. I have personally tried it, it seems that the clarinet grows more "tolerant," squeaks far less often, and my tone also gets somewhat better. But then, my lips tire and grow numb much quicker . Would you advise it as an alternative way of forming the embouchure (for amateurs at least)? Thanks.

Selim Tezcan Hello, I tried double-lip embouchure on historical clarinet but then the mouthpiece is smaller size. I didn’t get any successful result with that...I wouldn’t suggest it for any another clarinet either because I apply only the normal way after all. I hope it helps :)
There’s a little lightening problem with my camera 🤦🏻♀️ I hope to find a solution soon. Sorry about that🤷🏻♀️
i wish i had watched this video before, you are great Selin...
Very helpful instruction from a totally charming teacher.
OMG your content is so helpful, just did my repair with your outstanding video ! Thank you so much :)
Georg Lamprecht Glad to hear that 😊 have a nice practice
@ Thanks it was awesome, do you use some lip protection like cigarette paper or something else? :)
Georg Lamprecht No I never use any of this stuff, I don’t need it :) even on e-flat clarinet !😇
Thanks you , it's very good !!
.because has been very help for me.
God bless you
😁👍🌺❤️
Have a nice practice :)
