Dude won five majors. (Although, acola did win two stacked P-Tiers, so I can still see the argument for him being #1)
Keep in mind that the season finished before Kowloon, so that tournament was not included in the stats. The rest of the season Acola was just more consistent and had a winning record against him.
I just got an idea for how the Lumirank algorithm could be less punishing to regions that aren't able to have as many events as Japan. Most likely the Lumirank team has already considered this option, but I wanna explain it to anyone else stumbling upon this comment. See, for those who don't know, placing highly at a major automatically gives you a minimum point value. What I mean by this is that if the point value you get from your ranking is higher than the one you got from placing highly at a major, then that's the one you get. For example, Light only got 150 points from getting 5th at a P tier last season, but because he's ranked number 10 in the world, he's worth 300 points instead. However, the opposite is not true, which is why I said it's a minimum point value: if your ranking gives you a point value lower than the point value you got from placing well at a major, then the latter one is the one that matters. For example, Kola is number 36 in the world, which should give him a point value of 120 points, but because he also got 4th at an S tier, which gave him a point value of 150 points, he's actually worth 150 points at any events he enters. If you're following me, you might already see the issue. Let's say you make it to top 8 at an A tier thanks to some upsets and a lucky bracket for your character. That would make it so that any time you enter an event, the event in question is worth 50 points more. It doesn't matter how bad you do the rest of the season, you could go 1-2 over and over and you'd still contribute 50 points to any event you enter. So, if one region in the world has the opportunity to have A tiers every other week while another region struggles to even have two significant events in a month, players from the first region will have a huge advantage. The more tournaments happen, the more likely it is that someone gets that lucky bracket that brings them to top 8 of an A tier, or top 16 of an S tier, or top 32 of a P tier(all of those rewards you with a 50 points value minimum). This means that all events increase in value over time, making it more likely to have even more majors in this region and more likely to have players that get points exclusively from one good run, which ultimately has the effect that players from this region will be ranked higher. How do we fix this? Well, my solution is very simple: make these point values lower. Like, maybe someone who made top 8 at a P tier once shouldn't be worth as much as a top 25 player by default. Here's a particularly egregious example of this happening in Japan: Omuatsu is ranked 83 in the world, but his 5th place at Kowloon 9 more than doubles his point value, from 70 points to 150 points, so now he counts for as much as Mkleo when he decides to enter a tournament. If we make this part of the Lumirank less important, other regions in the world won't be at such a huge disadvantage compared to Japan.
I see your point. However I think an exception to your proposal should be made for supermajor winners such as ShinyMark and Zomba. If you win a tournament with a point value of an “S+ tier or higher” you should be given a point value of 250 or 300. Or a way to compensate for the current higher Major placement point distribution is to increase the LumiRank point player distribution higher for ranks in the top 100
@@zavillion893 Bro. I think you're missing the joke/irony of the original post. Sonix got 2nd at like every event so it's ironic seeing him with a non-2nd place. Pretty sure this is all just pointing out that irony.

As a fan of Shuton, I would like to tell you that he has never finished lower than 9th in a Japanese tournament, where it is difficult to be consistent. And in his stream he says he respects other players regardless of their ranking position or country and thinks he is overrated. He is Goat!
@@nickmonks826 yeah but overall his results compared to tamap are similar and his record vs the top 100 is significantly better. same goes for shadic, so he should be like 7th imo even though i also think hes better than that
Agreed… the rankings are weird… sparg0 had some flops and because he fell off compare to last year it’s more noticeable even though he’s probably around the same as shadic
Sorry to break it to some of you, but someone like Spargo who attempted to win Genesis X with Aegis does not earn praise. Even Akakikusu, Snow and Doramigi should be higher. It is not about results but personality
I knew when Acola had that "White Space" tag (or something similar to that), it was in reference to Omori. I swear people were freaking out he was depressed our something
What are people talking about? Miya got heavily rewarded for attending so many majors and winning most of them out of every top player on this list. He improved so much that he got 2nd in the world, two spots higher than last year!
I think people are just heavily averse to the idea of having a Steve main as the number 1 player, so they criticise the ranking with that bias in mind. The previous season they were complaining about the ranking not rewarding head to heads because both Spargo and Sonix had a winning record against Acola but he still got number 1. Now they are saying that the algorithm punishes you for attending tournaments because Acola attended less tournaments but got a higher place.
There should be a world series, with a few regionals as qualifiers for a main big national event in every country, then the top8 players from these national events would qualify to a main international event, and the rankings from the year (or half year) would be the results from this big event. The results from national and regional events would help to break a tie (for people who finish in 5th, 7th, 9th, etc. during the main international event).
Ranking reflected the season pretty well, some of them felt a little odd but in retrospect make a lot of sense (spago at 9 feels weird but does make sense
Top 4 is Steve, G&W, Snake and Sonic, I think we can all agree that we're ready for the next smash game, Ultimate was a great ride but the end meta is just sad.
People need to stop crying. There is no way that "cHaRaCteRs" are the reason you say that. It's fair if you are just tired of the game due to the fact that it's old or maybe you have changed. If you blame characters for lack of interest you are a coward 😂😂😂
Sparg0 had a 13th and a 33th place and his record against the top10 wasn’t the best, although I do think he should definitely be behind shadic him being above sparg0 makes sense
Some constructive criticism in terms of the editing for this videos is that I think there are too few clips. Instead of showing one long sequence I think it would be more interesting to make show multiple good clips from players and show some camera footage of them if possible. It would add more hype and incorporate more player personality into the video. I think if there is gonna be a longer outplay sequence it’s better to save it for the clip at the end. I also believe that the song choices weren’t the best and it didn’t feel like there was enough effort put into syncing the clips. For example the Tweek song is incredibly silly and does not match the atmosphere of a top 5 player popping off. There were definitely much more “hype” donkey songs that could’ve been used for that moment. The pgr videos always had really good clip sync with commentator reactions that transitioned into the next clips before fading away and it added a lot of hype. I would frequently get chills watching the videos and seeing some of the hype outplays mixed with the commentators popping off and the intense music that syncs perfectly. The editing quality of the old pgr videos were top notch and I would frequently rewatch them just to appreciate how good they were. While the lumi videos clearly have high quality production they just lack the same overall quality/attention to detail and care the pgr videos had for the reasons I listed.
The only one I feel weird about is Shuton. In my mind he's 9th or 10th. I really don't think he should be higher than Shadic, but nevertheless an interesting list for sure. Very excited to see the developments for the next six months! I think Shadic will continue to do well, I'd like to see Sparg0 use Aegis more and Leo should probably have a comeback as long as he continues to adapt to the new meta, get rid of all his old habits and such. Hopefully Sonix will get #1 next season; most consistent, most hard-working, him and Miya both are excellent.
TamaP and Shuton ending up this high was not on my radar. I can see the argument for Shuton with all his amazing placements at P tiers, but TamaP's ranking genuinely confuses me despite the h2h against Shuton. He has plenty of mediocre losses and underperformances, particularly at regionals, which I know count for less, but still... It's also not like he has that many good wins, he didn't attend that much. But maybe I'm biased by his recent(and not for this season, to be clear)129th place at Kowloon.
You are severely underrating TamaPdaifuku's wins. Miya win plus winning head-to-heads on Shuton, Raru, Snow, Maister, Gackt, Aka, Yaura, Yamanaction, Ken, and Zomba.
Consistency matters the most at top level. When you attend more tournaments, you risk getting more outlier placements that can majorly affect your ranking. It’s a matter of risk-reward, and these players, even one as attendance-heavy as Miya, can struggle.
Shadic ranked over Sparg0 after so many people were dissing him and trying to write off his wins (like the Luminosity Invitational) is hilarious. Also shout out to the players calling Corrin a fake high tier. Roy isn't the FE character in the top 10, dawg. That's Corrin.
I’m pretty content with the rankings, just a bit confused with the editing of this vid compared to the others only giving each player 2 clips which is ironic. Good stuff to everyone who made these vids to bring back hype tho 🎉🎉🎉

Many people may be frustrated with Sparg0's ranking.I understand the temptation to complain here. But all we fans have to do now is cheer him on.He has always fascinated us with his play, first of all, Supernova, and we look forward to seeing him in action!
Lumi’s ranking is interesting. Everybody’s will be different because they will prioritize and give more weight to certain stats over other things. No ranking will be perfect. That being said…Lumi’s ranking is interesting
To anyone critiquing the results of players, imagine every dub & L in a season as earning & losing points, with players like Sparg0 & Light never earned as many points when compared to the last season, so they dropped from their rankings. Players like Tweek & Miya shot up, whereas players like Sonix & Acola sustained theres.
I feel like Sparg0 at 9 is only because he hasn't gone to many tournaments so far this year, cause there's no way that Shuton and Tweek are currently better than Sparg0
So many people in this comment section don’t know how to read stats. If you want Sparg0 and Sonix to be 1 and 2 this past season make your own ranking based on vibes and NA pride.
Okay, but who really believes TamaP should be higher than Sparg0? Dude got a 49th. And only one of them was ever in the conversation for being the best in the world. The japanese glizzing is real. Sparg0 should've been 6th. The top 5 is all good.
Well Tama never missed top 4 twice in a row, while Sparg0 went four tournaments in a row not reaching top 4, and he even got a 33rd. Sparg0 is definitely a better player in the game's lifespan, but this season in particular Tama was much more consistent.
i know tweek is really good but holy, look at how few tourneys he went to. feel like the system rewards not going to that much stuff because you rack up more "bad" losses

If we make this part of the Lumirank less important, other regions in the world won't be at such a huge disadvantage compared to Japan.
finally someone gets it
I see your point.
@@pbz7572 I feel like Supermajors are already worth so much than normal majors, I don't think they need another advantage.

Thanks for all the time and effort with these rankings, LG! I ESPECIALLY want to say thanks for including favorite games, songs, and hobbies for each player as that was so fun to read about and really added a lot to the personalities of all these great talents worldwide!!! 😊

I really do disagree about miya not getting first, but I guess if you prioritize less events with a cleaner record than it makes sense. Acola only went to 7 tourney's top 1 tho. idk man
As a fan of Shuton, I would like to tell you that he has never finished lower than 9th in a Japanese tournament, where it is difficult to be consistent.

Sparg0 saw that 9th place and decided to make it outdated asap
Ranking reflected the season pretty well, some of them felt a little odd but in retrospect make a lot of sense (spago at 9 feels weird but does make sense

Sonix really took the “ Be the best player in NA but never win a major” too literally
4:00 wasn’t expecting to hear my comms in the Top 10 players in the world reveal but I’ll take that haha
Great call!!
