Tweek had better performances but light did better overall against top 20 players, I guess they value the top player record more than the tournament performance
Light does better against the top 20. Every time Tweek placed well his bracket was either seeded very well for him (he got fed lower seeds until top 8) or people who he was supposed to fight would get upset and he'd fight a lower ranked player.
Not that anything is getting fixed now, but Sonix should have a second Sparg0 win from Coinbox IRL on his player card, and Sparg0 should have a second Sonix win from Watch the Throne on his player card.
Absolutely recommend watching Japanese tournaments as well, especially Kowloon (the clip of Miya playing incineroar in grands comes from there). Acola basically farmed Japan for the whole year, except the last few months where Miya got a couple wins away from him, which is what largely contributed to Acola ranking 1st
@@SMFizzy Doesn't Acola have a negative record against Sonix and Sparg0? He did in the latter half of the year at the very least. Is that not an inconsistency?

@@revengeoftheshreks1860 and what? that doesn't really matter at all. Sonix lost 4 times against Light and why is not over him? it's ridiculous that argument. Miya deserved even the second place
@@V2Nitro Sparg0 has more P tiers than Miya though, which are basically the new super Majors. Since now there's a super major almost every month. And then there's the H2H which is in Sparg0's favor on all of the top 4. It just doesn't make sense to have Miya above Sparg0, unless you're going to value consistency above all other factors like highs and H2Hs. As for Sonix I think it was a toss up. Sonix has a better H2H on the top 4 than Miya, but Miya has slightly better consistency. However I think Sonix having slightly more consistent highs at the tourneys both him and Miya attended edged it out for him to get third.
Can someone explain to me how Miya went from 3 half year ranking to 4 when miyas 2nd half was better than his first half and sonix+sparg0 got 25th/49th at SSC respectively in the 2nd half?
I guess the algorithm gives more weight to top level wins over placements. Sparg0 having 9 Sonix wins, 6 Acola wins, and 2 Miya wins really pushed him ahead of the pack. Conversely Miya had one 1 Sonix win, 4 Acola wins, and ZERO Sparg0 wins. Dropped him below the other four horsemen. Also Miya having that Kagaribi 49th kept the Smash Con results from pushing Sparg0 and Sonix below him. If it wasn't a full year ranking, it would've been a much different story.
Sonix had a better second half too, despite that 25th. Sparg0 just had such a lead in the first half that neither Miya nor Sonix could quite catch up. I'm surprised too, but at least this proves once and for all that the Japan bias allegations are not accurate lol.
Because one bad tournament in the second half of the year doesn't take away from the several major top 2s that Sonix and Spargo got, including a top 2 at a major that both the other 2 horsemen attended. Sonix has had an insane second half of the year, winning Port Priority, 2nd at WTT, winning Coinbox IRL and taking plenty of notable top player set victories in the process (especially taking all the wins off of Miya he got) Miya is a great player, but not having a positive record against ANY of the other 3 horsemen does (and imo, should) put him behind them in the rankings. Having a lot of second places is great but the guy you keep losing to is probably going to be ahead of you in the rankings.
If I had to nitpick I would switch Tweek and Light around. It is close between the two, however.. Tweeks tournament placements were all single digits. He never placed below 9th.
No disrespect to acola but I don’t think people can agree to him being number one definitively if he cant take a set off number 2 or number 3 in a whole year of playing
The thing is, the disconnect between American and Japanese tournaments means you basically play 2 different seasons. Plus, Japan gets way more tournaments than NA and so Acola and Miya both got a huge amount of ranking points for all the top 2 placements they get in their region. Meanwhile in NA, tournaments are further away due to the size of the continent making high attendance much more difficult, plus there are far more dominant NA players (as you can see by the top 10 being predominantly NA) competing against each other giving more variety of players instead of just being either Acola or Miya winning an event. As such, it's very impressive that Sonix and Sparg0 do so well in the rankings when they don't have as easy of a time as Acola does in their tournaments
@@legrandliseurtri7495 the very top players are balanced but it's the top 50 that's dominated by japan, it's why japanese players get more points in their tournaments, which is why they usually rank higher, thus the cycle continues, what doesn't help is that when na goes there most of them get washed except two or three whereas when jp comes to na they usually make at least top 16 and more often than not top 8, and that applies to like 15 of them
@@legrandliseurtri7495 oh im bad at geography lmao thought that South America was also part of NA but the N stands for north ig but still a majority anyway

Premier. With entrants of some tournaments reaching into the thousands and getting more and more top players from all around the world going, s+ would've been the tier for like half the tournaments. So Premier got slapped in there.

sonix was not more consistent tho, he didnt start popping off until the second half of the year, while miya was already making waves first year. only thing sonix has over miya is his h2hs and miya's 49th at that one kagaribi early in the year, and sonix has had more bad placements at bigger events anyways. Miya and sonix should be switched.
Sonix and Miya have near equal consistency in terms of placements actually. They both missed top 8 at a major twice. But yeah it must be that Sonix has better wins and better losses. And I also thought it wasn't impossible that Sparg0 would maintain his number 2 spot.
@@legrandliseurtri7495 I get Spargo being 2nd, his h2h and most P tiers won really push him above sonix and miya, plus his many wins over sonix in gfs. but if youre looking at the year as a whole, i feel miya was just too much better in the first half to say sonix and him and equal placements. Second half, sure, but the first half pushes it over the edge for me.
lmao miya is the one who looses the most against acola sonix and spargo
acola beats miya
sonix beats miya acola and can beat spargo and spargo beats miya acola and can beat sonix
@@thekneecapthief2860
Sorry but from what I remember, Miya actually had a pretty rough start to the year. I believe his lowest was 49th? What's this superior first half consistency you talk of?
Regardless Sonix has a better head to head and more valuable wins. Especially with Port Priority.@@thekneecapthief2860
Idk why but the G&W music goes so hard
i don’t think light over tweek makes sense but maybe i’m missing something 😅
Tweek had better performances but light did better overall against top 20 players, I guess they value the top player record more than the tournament performance
Light does better against the top 20. Every time Tweek placed well his bracket was either seeded very well for him (he got fed lower seeds until top 8) or people who he was supposed to fight would get upset and he'd fight a lower ranked player.
Light was closer to gluto than tweek
Miya should be 3rd instead if Sonix, and Tweek should be above Light
So wild leo is 11th. I agree with the ranking its just insane there was actually a year he didnt tear literally everyone a brand new asshole
Love em or hate em, Acola’s stats are absolutely deserving of #1
Not that anything is getting fixed now, but Sonix should have a second Sparg0 win from Coinbox IRL on his player card, and Sparg0 should have a second Sonix win from Watch the Throne on his player card.
海外大会にそんな詳しくないから、自分の思っていた順位とほんの少し違和感はあれど概ね同意のランキングではあったな
New season is gonna be great if it’s 6 months. Think the future is bright
Light still the king of America 😁
These comments are gunning for light so hard. Light always gonna be the king of the US
W list if spargo was first, I would have been angry because leo has done so much and won so much for a long time.
This might be too late but acola song?
Honestly an insanely accurate list. I personally would've swapped 1 and 2, but that's probably because I don't watch enough Japanese competitive.
Spargo had many inconsistencies unlike Acola
@@SMFizzy Doesn't Acola have a negative record against Sonix and Sparg0? He did in the latter half of the year at the very least. Is that not an inconsistency?
@@Giraff3. Yes he loses to Sonix and Sparg0 but rarely loses to anyone outside the top 10 unlike Sparg0. Sparg0 also has a 49th and 17th placement which brings him down alot. Acola never placed outside top 8 with most results been top 3.
@@SMFizzy honestly fair enough

Wait how in the world is Miya 4th, in the first half of the year he was third and in the second half he didn't place anything under 3rd, that's insane
It kinda makes sense considering he has the worst head to head with other top 4, and he doesn’t have as many super major wins as Sparg0’s and Acola
@@revengeoftheshreks1860 Miya has the same number of supermajor wins as Spargo, 4. Miya also 6 A-tier wins to Spargo's 3.
@@V2Nitroyou right my mistake
yo nice one luminosity guys but uhhh can you release the actual version with mkleo in it haha
Did acola not beat spargo even once last year
nope, their record this year is 6-0 spargo's favor

Can someone explain to me how Miya went from 3 half year ranking to 4 when miyas 2nd half was better than his first half and sonix+sparg0 got 25th/49th at SSC respectively in the 2nd half?
Probably the h2h between him and both Spargo and Sonix
Tbf outside of the 25th Sonix may have had the best 2nd half of any player tbh
The guard has changed
Spargo still goat.. plays with ppl that was considered mid till he put em on.
Sonix Top 3. Let´s goooo baby. U know the vibes
If I had to nitpick I would switch Tweek and Light around. It is close between the two, however.. Tweeks tournament placements were all single digits. He never placed below 9th.
Love the pigstep!
No disrespect to acola but I don’t think people can agree to him being number one definitively if he cant take a set off number 2 or number 3 in a whole year of playing
He never missed top 8, his worst loss is ranked 45, his second-worst loss is ranked 20, if I'm not mistaken. He earned that first place bro.
@@elmacho1336 There are five NA players in the top 10 vs four Japanese players in the top 10...
Miya’s secondary is incineroar?? That’s news to me
That's more like his pocket. His secondary is Zombie.
leo will always be the greatest in ssbu history
Tweek should've been 6th and Miya 2nd imo
Nah, Miya is where he belongs
Like how tf those results at SSC from Sparg0 and Sonix didn't mean anything. Getting that bad of a placement at a platinum event should affect more than h2h results imo
I think H2H matters more, but we can agree to disagree@@uprollsariotvan
Jeja deserves to be in top 10 :3
Pls do 6 month ranking this year😢
Bro, what is a P tier tournament? Kagaribi#11 was a P tier, Genesis 9, Port Priority 8, and more. I thought the max was S+
Premier. With entrants of some tournaments reaching into the thousands and getting more and more top players from all around the world going, s+ would've been the tier for like half the tournaments. So Premier got slapped in there.
