You`re thanking them for occupying other countries?
The US killed millions and millions of civilians in other countries far away from home, only to steal their oil, gas, and other natural riches, under the pretense of fighting evil
You seem to know very little about the atrocities your soldiers have been committing in countries that can`t defend themselves.

A late friend of mine served several tours in Vietnam. Once in awhile he would talk about it and the stories were disturbing. He said the things that helped him thru it all was American music, warm beer, an occasional letter from home and Opium to dull the horror.

I love this movie. My Uncle who was in Vietnam remembers this guy and loves him. I grew up with many refugees from Vietnam, Cambodia and the nightmare that happened there, and Laos. They are very dear people and hearing their stories is heartbreaking. Listening to my uncle reservedly speak of his also heartbreaking.

  • @chris...9497
    @chris...9497 Год назад +3

I grew up during the Vietnam War. It was the first televised war and the last conflict that allowed reporters to provide eyewitness reports from battle. This was the war that pulled down the illusion of war being noble; it provided film footage and iconic photography of the true carnage and insanity of war. We claimed to be there to keep the Vietnamese safe from communism, but we also blew up their villages and napalmed the inhabitants. Boys barely 18 years old were sent from America and ordered to shoot every man, woman, and child in some villages. In an agrarian culture, we dropped toxic defoliants on jungle and farms alike. Some of it was racial, some cultural, most of it ignorant. Most Vietnamese did not want us there. Our troops faulted the Vietnamese for 'discouraging' the American military by blowing them up and setting traps, but many of them felt invaded by us. What you see happening in Ukraine today is what the Vietnamese were doing then: trying to push us out of their country.
So when you catch sight of the bombs and executions at the edges of this film, that's what that was about; a lot of innocent people together with those fighting back being killed. They won; we finally gave up and left. And strangely enough, they seemed to have forgiven us. Vietnam veterans from the US are welcomed there as friends.

      Eyewitness reporting showing the truth.....
Something now very hard to find, even with the WWW Net, much is censored or shadow banned or not on searches....
Which explains your misconception about the Ukraine:
      And it's our fault, again.
The Maidan was US instigated, the political leadership US run, the militia's formed.... OK homegrown in West Ukraine and managed by Umr Jewish oligarchs.
But the pushing out? That would be the native East Ukrainians desperately trying since 2014. The locals for hundreds of years, that were being slaughtered by those legit neoNazi militias- Bandarites who flat believe THEY are white and slavs, ethnic Russians are NOT, and anyone not them are not human- and killing them at will is just fine...
8 long years later, and many bait and switch madly corrupt political players later, the loudly planned formal invasion across the Donbass and into Russia itself to seize Crimea (that voted repeatedly to return to independence and Russia's orbit, verified by intl observers as fair and legit) is bragged on everywhere.
By the NATO AND US TRAINED MILITIAS AND UKR MILITARY straight ACROSS East Ukraine where they declare they will kill the remaining residents entirely and reclaim it for West Ukrainians too.
So Russia- repeatedly trying to get the Minsk Accords signed enforced and said plans stopped- gives one last warning they.are.finally.going to help protect the ethnic Russians there.
The Donbass population that OVERWHELMINGLY wanted just that, and had been begging for protection for 8 years.
But all you heard was our MSM and pols telling you that it was RUSSIA massing troops to invade a country that hated them...
That is, unless.you were paying attention to our media in the 10s when plenty of news about the militias and Nazis in Ukraine were published.... 💁

Much of Robin William's broadcast's were improvised, even though the movie is loosely based on the real life Adrian Cronauer, who started his radio shows "GOOD MORNING VIETNAM!" while doing his show there. He worked on Bob Dole'S campaign in 1996 & Bush's reelection campaign in 2004. He passed in 2018 at 79. This was such a good movie. No one could have made this movie this good if it wasn't for Robin.

2:49 I caught one of your first videos about a month back, and you were explaining why you'd missed so many popular movies, because you read and enjoyed books. It was so nice when the radio DJ at the start of the film is talking about a service to mail out books and you thought that was a nice service. I think most people blow by that as just being the contrast to what Robin comes in and does, it's meant to show how tame and slow the current radio is, but it really highlighted your love of books and I thought it was a nice moment. Keep being you man, I'm loving your laughter and reactions to stuff :)

"Goooooooood morning Vietnam! It's 0600 hours. What does the "O" stand for? O my God, it's early! Speaking of early, let's hear it for that Marty Lee Drywitz. Silky smooth sounds, making me sound like Peggy Lee..."
Fun Fact: Robin Williams ad-libbed all of Adrian Cronauer's broadcasts.
Location Location Fact: The film was mostly shot in Bangkok, Thailand, and at the time, several hundred male students from the International (American) School of Bangkok (ISB) were recruited as extras to perform in the multitude of shots showing American GI's throughout the film. As a courtesy, Robin Williams actually came to ISB and put on a stand up routine for all students in the 10th grade and above.
Hollywood Hacks Fact: Robin Williams's portrayal of Adrian Cronauer has led to confusion as to the beliefs of the real Cronauer. Cronauer has said that the film is about 45 percent accurate, according to a biography on Robin Williams. Cronauer has said that the film misrepresented him to make him seem anti-war, when he was "anti-stupidity" in his own words. In fact, Cronauer - who later became a lawyer, and died in 2018 - became an active Republican and was a vice-chairman of the 2004 Bush-Cheney re-election campaign. Furthermore, Cronauer has also said that if he'd done half the things Williams did in the film, he would've been court-martialed and sent to Fort Leavenworth. This is why you should take any Hollywood movie about the Vietnam War with a lethal level of salt.

National Geographic made a really good documentary about the Vietnam War, interviewing people from both sides, after the war, and offering little commentary. Officers from the NVA were bragging that the heroes of the NVA were over the age of 50 and under 10. These were the people they forced into helping them, and the people American soldiers were demonized for killing.
US Army Col David Hackworth (Retired) visited Vietnam after the end of the war and asked people why they didn't fight communism. The most common reply was "We didn't understand that we needed to. You were foreigners, so we were not ready to band with you against our countrymen, and by the time we figured out what communism really was, it was too late; the war was already over."

Not so fun fact: The troops that he performs live for in the jeep were based on a real battalion. Sadly, in real life, they were being sent to a battle where they were all killed. I don't think the movie states that explicitly, but knowing that makes that scene kind of a sobering moment despite all the jokes, because you know that the real guys all died shortly after, especially with Robin Williams' jokes about them being scared. It's one of those things that I appreciate in this movie. It's a comedy, but it's also not afraid to be realistic about war and the consequences of it. It's not fun and games. Even Robin Williams' final interaction with Fun Duck To is incredible because like most soldiers, they thought they were coming in to Vietnam as liberators, which was absolutely not the case. To the Vietnamese, America was the enemy. They were just fine without them, but everyone was afraid of communism and the Domino Theory that said that if one country went communist, the whole world would go that way. Obviously, that was proven completely false. People are driven by greed and fear. A political or economic system based on that won't last forever, but it will last longer than a society based on a communist ethic. The system was doomed to fail on its own because there's no money in it. Eventually, people get tired of fascism and corporations stealing all the money too, but it just takes longer because if you have all the money, you control everything, including the government, the financial system, the media and information everyone gets to consume. One of the reasons the Vietnam War finally ended was because news anchors like Walter Cronkite reported on it and sent video back and people were rightly horrified.

He played Gomer Pyle on the Andy Griffith show. then he did a spin off of that character called Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. He played a marine private who drove his sergeant crazy. The politics of the American War of Aggression (Vietnam War) is pretty straight forward. America invaded Vietnam, following several other countries, and bombed the Vietnamese into the stone age, because we didn't feel that a country should be able to select their own form of government. The US has not much changed since then. Meanwhile, since Vietnam beat the US military and made them turn tail and run, Vietnam is slowly recovering from the disastrous war that killed a massive number of their people, devastated their ecosystem with toxic chemicals, and covered the country in landmines, all while the US continues to demand that Vietnam payback the cost of the war to the US and attempt to dictate their economic system and international trade practices, via the WTO and IMF. Vietnam demonstrates how a countries government can be run for the good of its people, not for the profit of its corporations and rich. One only needs to look at how well Vietnam did in combating Covid, compared to its "first world" adversaries. The difference is staggering and makes it plain how badly the US government failed the american people.
