Two thumbs up! Nate, you did it again! Your (easy to follow) choice of chords, makes me believe that I'm not playing the piano. It feels like Brian Jones is back, sitting in my music room, playing his sitar. Thank you! and keep up the good work, please!
Of all piano tutorials Ive ever watched your is without doubt the best. Virtually no one talks about chords which is the entire basis to playing any instrument. I love the right on topic, optional methods of play but most of all the understand the music approach not that dropping bar guitar hero garbage. Don't memorize keys, understand chords. Well done Nate and Thanks You!
Another great piano tutorial! Thank you Nate. A question: at 18:52 you're doing a trick that sounds cool but I couldn't figure out how it works (doesn't seem to be me mentioned in the explanatory section). Any tips very welcome. Thanks again.
Ah yes I got a little fancy there haha. I play a melody A G F# A with fingers 4 3 2 3 on the counts 3 + 4 + of that measure BUT the trick is I still put down the outside notes of the chord...E and B with my thumb and 5th finger...on count 3 and 4 when I also play the first A, and the F# of the melody. Try it very slow at first, and you can always use the settings wheel to change the playback speed on the video to get a better look. Cheers!
YEYY THANK YOU AGAIN!! your tutorials are so easy to follow and your music taste is epic! i have one song request - two birds by regina spektor thank you once again ! 😄
Heyyy Nate!! I just found your channel. This is a great tutorial. Very clear. It is great how you specify the structure of the chords and how you display them on the screen. . Your step by step approach is very helpful. I should mention that it also helps when you mention the counting. It also helps when you do the cover. In this video you also mention that the melody starts on count number 2. ⭐️😀
Hey thanks so much! It's nice to hear that all the rhythm details are helpful, sometimes I worry I'm overexplaining and people would prefer to just learn by imitation. Anyway, cheers!
If I could give give a suggestion; I have been fascinated by the keyboard riff of Dirty laundry by Don Henley or Pressure by billy Joel. The next ones I would like to mention are; when I see you smile by bad English, etc. Of course I also like the video you did for It’ll be okay by Shawn mendes
In this song when I do the octaves for E F# G A G F# E. Does it go like low E for E then high E octave for F# and then back to low E octave for G and so on?
Off the top of my head: I believe its low E for each of those notes, with the high E happening on the eighth note ("and") in between those right hand notes. So the left hand is playing notes at twice the frequency of the right hand notes
@@johnedwardpiano Sometimes it can also be helpful to slow the video down if you're not sure how the hands line up rhythmically - click the gear icon then change the playback speed (just in case you weren't aware!)
This is a weird one...there are live versions of them playing it in Fm, Em, and Dm over the years. The original recording is off from standard A440 tuning and somewhere between E minor (dorian really) and F minor. It's closer to F minor but either way it doesnt sound great to play along with the recording. Since it's almost as close to Em, and most casual guitarists play it in Em for the open chords, and it's easiest to play on piano that way, I went with E.

Great lesson. But why did you play it in E key? It's in D.
