I'm always looking for old classic semi trucks to save and restore. I'm also always looking for trucks or parts Detroit Diesel related. If you have one that needs to be saved or you know of one you can drop me an email at the following address: Ol2Stroker@gmail.com
Be sure to check out our website ol2stroker.com for truck parts and merch!
Thing was screaming, and people say a detroit is only good for making noise lol. It will always be my favorite diesel engine.
They are so dirty the EPA pushed them out.
Pretty sure no one says that
they definitely do lmao@@zachpearce3180
@@zachpearce3180 Oh iv heard and read more than one person say it, that and they only suck down fuel and make noise. Mainly from those that if its not a cummins or a cat engine then its garbage. No different than the chevy vs dodge vs ford guys.
@@raginroadrunner Thats not really saying much though. The EPA would have us pushing carts by hand if they could have their way.
That was a clean LTL 9000 you were paired against when the fuse blew. Also interesting to see a CLT 9000 in the lineup. Has to be quite a rock and roll dragstrip ride on all those airbags!
Sounds like you might need a little heavier valve spring, it sounds like you are getting a little valve float at higher rpm.
What your hearing is the engine "stuttering" I call it, from EGRing itself within the air box. The one pass the blower bypass actuator hose blew off so they didn't open.
@@TheCrustyFatCabJason whats happening when you hit the switch with your other hand during launch?
@or-what that's the 2 step rpm limit w/post injection for anti lag
I noticed it was down on power.. when you get this beast dialed in its definitely gonna be a force to be recond with..keep it up brother
2 strokes..
Dont have valves
Yesterday I was hanging some light fixtures with the landlord and he apologized for cutting toward me, and I told him about the "cut toward your buddy, and not toward yourself" thing, and he cracked up!!!😆
Its cut towards your buddy not toward your body
Bruh great ring of fire playing when you break down is wild
TOO COOL BOYS!!!! I love seeing a Gimmy doing its thang. sure looks like a decent air fuel mix n not smoking the place out!!
jimmy
Wayne we raced a 6v92 with an allison back in 1982 in a louisville it worked real good it was a demo truck when I worked at Harper Detroit Diesel in Toronto
I truly love this truck and how it sounds! it sounds like a Subaru Impreza WRC! :D love it. Cheers from italy
3:04 sounds like a 22b subaru rippin' 😂
SCREAMING JIMMY!!!!
The "LITTLE " Detroit that could !!
Man tough break for the Fat Cab. Looking good in practice. It's hard to cut a good tree and get out of the hole without spinning.
Sounds great going by at the top! Now I know why you are the only one. LOL Love the patina.
The 1st truck I drove was a 78 KW K100 cabover. It had a 8v92n with a double over 15 and 463s in the rear. I opened it up to 2700 rpm and never did wined it out but at 105 mph it would dance on the interstate.
detroit going 3k+ rpm is like a gas engine at 6,7k
leaktroits (nickname they earned cause they leaked oil like a harley or VW) built so much power when you drove them hard, you had to drive them like you were pissed of at them, they thrived that way. another nickname for them was "screaming jimmy diesel" cause they were so loud.
That’s so bad ass!!!!!
With the wheel spin this thing puts down that Detroit might be better off sitting behind the cab. What a beast!
Ide like to see you and Baby mad dog racing back in the day... when he had a Detroit 😜🤘
Knowing how to drive it makes a massive difference, , great vid great show
yup, had to drive them like you were pissed at them, hammer them hard and not let up.
Man that thing is rowdy. Cool af
Eliminating a few bugs and some dial in . The fat body will be hard to beat .
My god man, that looks like an absolute blast! 😁👍
That 3rd gear whatever it is is absolutely insane!💪🪝
How bout a Caddy update soon. Fat cab looked good in practice.
I was about to ask the same thing.
He's told me a couple times in the past, that the caddy work won't be done.
Not sure why, unless he wants to keep it all based on oil burners exclusively, but I look at it as something mechanical whether diesel or gasoline doesn't matter as long as it's good content.
Always interested in the old Gangster Caddies, especially if they have the biggest cubic inch stuffed under that 2 mile long hood
I'd still be interested even if it didn't just cause those land yachts were just cool, same with Lincoln's of that era.
So how bout it please 2 stroken
Awesome, brutal and inspiring
freakin love the vintage cab to go along with the leaktroit.
Awesome. Sounds like a k20 lol
So awesome great work
Wayne I was so stoked at the start! Seeing and hearing Jason hammering the FatCab flying Ol'2Stroker colors! Then......disappointment LOL Better race next time buddy.
Great video Wayne really enjoyed watching the Fat Cab run at Onaway. To bad things didn't work out. Thanks for sharing stay safe Wayne.
Should check out Australia Bandag Bullet truck has a 16v92 making 2800hp, think still holds world fastest truck guiness record. seen it do many burnouts in Australia and is a monster...
I've seen I skidding in New Zealand. But that was close to twenty years ago.
@@jeremygyles3492 Yea around same time for me too, parents built a burnout pad near Bundaberg around 22 years ago, we had Frnak and Bandag come a few times, my sister got to go in it a few times while doing burnout.
Victor Bray did his first donut in his actual drag car at my parents track and after that went and built his burnout car, Brett Stevens also.
Funny thing was Ben Bray used to drive their small hire car around our complex, he could barely see over the steering wheel lol..
I moved to Brisbane and lived in Salisbury and the Bandag Bullet used to sit in a shed near Salisbury wreckers, think was Franks business address.
that things burning cleaner than newer engines
Very cool
Looking forward to future race videos!
I would love to see that truck hauling a load as its def a torque monster to say the least and a cool conversion
Love the video Wayne going by the way it was at the line you could see something was right on the take you could see it in the exshaust colour but otherwise that truck 🛻 is going to be a sleeper killer!!!👌👍
I love my 8v71 Detroit
Badass rig man I really dig it !!!
I have a special place in my heart for these old Jimmys I worked at a farm the summer between my junior and senior year of high school this has been a little more than 50 years ago there wasn't a lot of these still running but a lot of them were parked out back by then.Where I'm going with this story is they were hauling wheat from Silverton to thegrain terminal in Portland Oregon I would guess maybe 45 miles when truck showed up at the shop every load it was at LEAST a gallon of oil or more I don't ever remember any one going on a recovery mission that damned old Jimmy could always find the barn.😢
That is a beast. Love it
That was my favorite truck from the guilty by association show last year
That was a bad ass truck that took him out in the double elimination! What was he running for a motor?
3208
At least there was a little shot of my 'ol Buick on the way in. 🤣
Most people don't know but onaways surface is almost as bad as a dirt road. It's cool they host a ton of local events and the big rig challenge.
Great videography, BTW.
Imagine ,a common rail 12 v 71 ?shure the 8v92 may be bigger but I didn't finish high school😂
The v-12 is bigger852 cu in vs 736 cu in for 8v-92
12V71 commonrail was done maybe 10 years ago.
What a fuckin screamer! Fantastic job guys, yall were killing it out there. Sounds like you might be running out of valve spring up in those high rpm’s tho, might wanna toss something heavier in it lmao
this is so freaking hardcore and cool
In The Netherlands there was a truckpulling team with a 12V92 which they converted to Common Rail. They where called Team FTF. This was 2010 or so.
Yea unfortunately they couldn't keep it together.
@@Ol2Stroker No indeed. They kept breaking blocks and cranks.
@@WieDrDerJonge likely due to the rpm limit of their class. They were pioneers!
@@Ol2Stroker 2900rpm is the limit. To bad because I really like their truck but the Iveco V8's and Volvo's are unbeatable.
Love the old girl! 👌
The fat cab has come a long way , you’ll get her dialed in !
Bangin gears❤
sounds like an old honda going down the strip lol
Yes, been waiting for thos content again. Love that truck. It's sweeeeet
It needs an Allison automatic
No autos allowed
@@TheCrustyFatCabthat’s disappointing. I grew up with small fleet of 8v92 with Allison. They were surprisingly quick.
Make it happen Wayne
Cool caddy
I wish I could look at the suspension, cuz i'd try to figure out how to put more than 40% weight when the clutch it popped and a lower launch gear.
That's a bad bitch right there
Wayne, why don't you guys run super singles soaked in VHT? Or make it a drag only tube chassis single axle. Also looks like one wheel wonder diffs Detroit lockers of spools lock em' up!
i like you already. the add before your show car insurance.
Bahahahahah that's actually not up to me but that's pretty mint
@@Ol2Stroker yea i thought it was good.
i'm a car guy your a truck. what else would the add you tube nailed that one.
@user-cg1ki9gt4p I'm all the above. Started with cars, love it all!
That thing sounds rowdy
The new tow rig is dead sexy !
Appreciate it.. Was a lot of work getting it road worthy but the combo is too cool. Cant go wrong with more vintage GMC's!!
@@TheCrustyFatCab What it the engine/trans/axle setup in the tow rig? Sure looks sweet!
@lukestrasser it's unfortunately not a Detroit, It's a big cam Cummins, 13 speed OD and 3.90 rears..
not bad for a prototype, clearly needs a bit more sorting
Ya it’s screaming but got wiped most of the time
That’s an 8v92 with 2 step 😮
I'm gonna say there was some bull shit going on in the staging that second race dude seemed like he tried to play some mind games
As if he was trying to heat soak the ole Detroit to me as well, because he never really tried to spool up until he'd had to back out twice, and caught him having to back down third time with his pants down for sure.
I'd of made a point of just pointing that BS out to everyone.
Cause he spooled up very quick when he wanted to finally bring it up on the turbos, not sure how the lights works as far as second bulb on staging lights.
I replayed it three times to see if that's what was really going on, and it sure appears to be the case.
It's bad enough with gasoline engines, but oil burner that could easily mean bad things happen because of that small minded BS.
Black smoke!
That has patina
Thanks for the GREAT VIDEO !!
how the fugg does any trans handle that, insane.
Quit burning up clutches doing burnouts. Burnouts on stiff wall, street tires is useless. Switch to super singles on your drive axles.
Dial in that suspension. You want max weight transfer from front to rear on your launch. Custom build your front shocks with a 90/10 valving. Expand quickly, settle slowly.
You need a 4 link or 3 link in the rear to stop that horrible axle wrap/wheel hop.
It wasn't wheel hopping much at all this year. Changed to new much softer tires, the burnout is just to clean the dust/dirt off them from the pits. Super singles don't work any better, there's a reason no one runs them.
I have a 16v92 at my work on a genset that’s going to be scrapped ,is this thing worth anything ?
Absolutely.
It's a bit large and heavy for a truck. But still of value. It's actually two 8V92 engines bolted together.
ECM , gets a rope
Mechanical all the way
I gotta ask whats the transmission setup on this. it shifts like 3 or 4x before you actually shift.
In TSTI diesel & heavy truck mechanics
Can we get a break down of the build
I myself am a cat man but I'll tell you this much you'll not find a better diesel in the world no where nothing but pure power my friend they don't make one no more powerful.
Just was wondering if you put air to air charger On your Detroit.
Sick
Yup..... about an hour away from me.
Hi Wayne from Yorkshire England the race trucks is a nice rat racers how many horses is it making how big peterbilt cabover doing not seen it for a while love your content keep it coming 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I've watched some of your stuff but I have a question, why the single stack?...just wondering how much your losing not getting that shit out quicker...or does the back pressure help the more consistent boost on the short pulls like that?...maybe totally off on that stance but I'm curious
@@alscompleteoutdoor9091 believe it or not, a little backpressure on these engines actually raises the compression ratio a little. Our 318's with mufflers would always outpull our straight piped trucks.
You to do the same with a 16V
My mans has a laptop in a semi...
I'm a truck mechanic and driver and I'd like to know what transmission he's running and if he single clutches for quicker torque break, the old 5 speed like skip shifting 10 sp. No lo & hi side is very slow up & down shift
Its a modified 13speed, I don't stab the clutch, just lift on the throttle. Starting out on the high side, no range shift during the race.
What year is the truck? I was just given one that looks identical and don’t know a thing about it.
When will he put the 12v92? While he doesn't install the new engine, how about increasing the size of the Turbochargers and injectors again? I heard that there are 300mm size injectors.
V12 will be going in a different truck. We have more fuel available than it can burn. I just installed a new pair of turbos a couple days ago. Still trying to optimize the setup.
Why not use a slip and lock clutch and no transmission like the big fueler dragster use? This would eliminate shifting and get you off the line better. Have you welded all the spider gears solid in the rear ends, so all 8 tires pull the same? 🎉 and a cab over truck would be much better for access to the drive train. A gmc crackerbox cab over is what I would be racing. Very light cab, and full access to everything for service.
It has a slipper clutch now, but this was the first time out with it. Takes some getting used to. It has full locking rear ends.
@@TheCrustyFatCab does the interlock work between the 2 rear ends? Seems you're spinning the front axle more than the rear one.
@KBS117 i can assure you all 8 tires are spinning. Hell the 1st race Friday we were going a little sideways at the beginning!
@@TheCrustyFatCab just thought the front axle was spinning more than the rear. The front rear axle gets lighter when the power hits the rear ends. Thought maybe you could get out of the hole a little quicker with the spider gears locked solid. Are you running an air bag suspension or a Rockwell spring system? If bags, a leveling valve for each axle might help keep the weight on both axles, but you would need quick dump valves so it could adjust immediately. Quite the setup you have. I've had the v8 71'S run away from idling for 2 or 3 days with the blower drain tubes plugged, filling the blower box with oil. They hit about 4 grand and float the valves. They will sit there doing that for about 15 seconds until they clear out the blower box. I know the sound they make when the valves float, and it seems like I'm hearing it a little when yours hits higher rpms. I'm thinking your valve springs may be getting tired or maybe you need stiffer ones? You could be loosing some high rpm power due to valve float? Also wondering if some different marine cams would give her more zing, as the land base cams are epa friendly and waste alot of fuel and air? You got the fuel to her, now you need to burn all of it. Just my experience speaking, and I would love to see that thing kick ass and take names everytime it rolls up to the line. Does your engine bypass the blower when the turbos spool up? I understand that's a 90 h.p. gain to relieve the blower of duty during turbo boost. Not trying to tell you how to do it, but I am curious as to your setup, as I really want to build one. I was thinking of using the hpop and injector system from a 7.3 or 6.0 diesel to do what your doing. The early 6.0 uses a hpop system that is independent of the engine. It isn't incorporated into the block, other than the pump is under the intake. It uses separate hydraulic lines to feed each bank of injectors. Nothing is built into the heads or block. On The latter 6.0's, that wasn't true. Anyway, good luck and give her hell.
Ps 8v92 is under 800 cu inch ,a 12 v71 is just under 850 ,thanks to my smart phone and chears
arent all detroit 2 strokes technically common rail as they have a pressurized fuel rail feeding mechanical unit injectors actuated by a camshaft?
No. The pressure is not behind nozzles.
Where did you say you were going in the fall? Cooney? Live on the west coast and will be in the area in September would like to come by there if the dates line up
Double combustion likes ,,, !
What rpm are the valve springs rated for? And what limits rpm so far? Or are you just holding her back on rpm?
Not really sure what the valve springs will take, I would expect around 4k RPM. Currently the rev limiter is set to 3650 and we're shifting at 3500. Trying to keep it together for a little while at least
How about a giveaway on a Detroit of some size? 🤷♂️
😎💪💪💪
Its a bugatti
I feel like a modern auto trans with some proper tuning, but im just a keyboard warrior
No auto transmissions allowed in this type of racing
When need another video if they are only 11:11 long Wayne-o
is it still twin turbo and all of it is just dumped into a single smokestack?
Yes, single 6" stack rather than two 5".
Jesus that thing is so nasty!!
