Is there any chance of you reviewing the SOMA Ether V2? It's not a really synth, but it's useful for electronic music as a source of drones, sound effects, sampler fodder, etc. I have one, along with some mixed feelings about it. I'd really like to see what you could do with one! 🙂
Just like SOMA's Enner it's a drone machine. (Unfortunately) I sold my Lyra-8 after a couple of month, but I kept the Enner. If you are into experimental music SOMA is a 1st class address. I hope Vlad never stopps making these stunning devices.
The magnetic charm of the Lyra-8 is undeniable. I’ve pegged it as my secret weapon for hunting down those rare, elusive samples - the kind that elevate a track from good to unforgettable. But, without fail, I’m seduced into the spontaneous symphony of a jam session. The Lyra-8 isn’t merely a piece of gear; it’s a gateway to uncharted sonic territories, beckoning me to explore further than I ever planned.
I call my Lyra 8 the "time waster". Every time I turn it on I end up spending a couple of very enjoyable hours making weird soundscapes I'll never be able to reproduce. I couple it with a Boss DR-55 drum machine running through a spring reverb, and it's lo-fi heaven.
This is by far one of the coolest pieces of gear you have had on the channel. An absolute powerhouse for generating atmospheric sounds. Thank you for showcasing this amazing synth! :)
I have own one for years now and I love it. You truly have to be recording at all times because it can start making something you have never heard of. It is VERY hard to understand and play but it is worth it. You will be looking for a sound and then look at the clock to see 2 hours went by and you were just lost messing around with it. Im glad it has no quantize or cv, midi etc. EVERYTHING has those. This doesn't and it never pretended to be. Its also built like a tank quite literally.
One of my cats was staring at the TV for at least half a minute in a WTF state of mind. They usually ignore most of the audio that I force upon them. 😂 Happy weekend!
As someone who uses this synth as the centerpiece for nearly every one of my tracks, "letting go" is possibly the best advice you can give to tackle this beast. Crazy amounts of long-decay modulated reverb and delay help too ;)
Reminds me of how Mark Twain described listening to Wagner’s Ring cycle. “I think Wagner’s music is great…..it’s much better than it sounds”. (Paraphrased)
I got a soma ether and I don't think you could make music with it but i like to get stoned and find things that are playing radio stations just laying around in the world.
Saw the Lyra-8 in the thumbnail and thought "how the hell is he going to reproduce the opening track on this thing?" You absolutely smashed it out of the park mate, good effort!
The Lyra-8 isn't bad gear, it's weird gear. No lie, I have used this device extensively whether it's Rhizome in DC or the High Zero festival. With Jazz musicians, or absolute weirdos doing noise music. I love the thing to death. It's super well built, and there is nothing else like it. Unless you are talking about ciat lonbarde instruments (hint hint). It was also the only synth I used alongside other more conventional instruments (Guitars, Bass, Cello) for my Under Night album. In short...it is surprisingly useful.
I know Soma's stuff isn't for everyone, but I love the Lyra and how it sounds and what people do with it. I picked up their Enner and the ability to just be expressive while playing is a joy unto itself. Yeah I can only use it in my more experimental compositions, but those are fun!!

Personally, I love my Lyra-8 (white, jealous of orange), but I also don't really make songs and am basically a classically trained flute player with a love of electronic noises. I knew you'd get around to this eventually, thanks! Now talk about the deep rabbit hole I'm often in thanks to VCV Rack (or discuss the fact that I actually paid a bunch of $ to NI in the very early 2000s for a Reaktor 3? 4? dongle even though a.b.s.u. was still a thing), this channel will have become more me than me. ❤❤❤

it's got the sound of a perpetually tripped over theremin that someone left on... I'll stick to my current set up.. (arturia microfreak) suggestion: orba 2. got one... and it's a noodlers paradise 😁
They had to make the lyra in orange or pink, because if it was yellow, people would start to realize that its a synthesizer straight from 'The Back Rooms'.
It's great for making weird sound effects like sirens, telephones, and all that type of jazz. Also makes some crazy basslines that don't sound like anything else. One of the newest instruments I've found that I can use and keep.
Okay. So, that was fantastic... And, now I'm really interested in seeing you tackle any of the new Stylophone stuff (the theremin, or the drone machine). Also, the Elta Solar 42.
The Lyra 8 Is my goto live performance synth, I spend hours before the gig preparing, listening, entering a zen like state on mind meld with the thing. Then on stage the moon is in a different phase, the planet wobbled, a leaf fell somewhere and everything is so wonderfully, fantastically different. Not machine if you like to know what's coming next, but absolutely the best thing to just join the ride and discover places you hadn't even imagined.
Wow ! I just opened youtube to look for informations on this exact synth, and what do I see ? The man himself just released a video on it ! Awesome ! Superb jams as always !
this is the FORBIDDEN PLANET synth!! can I also add one of the most interesting and different (in a wildly good way) demo track.... I liked immensely how you acknowledged it took you to new places and the Final track was certainly original.... Great Job....
Great job. It is also possible to make some quite beautiful and emotional melodic sounds with it which the tendency towards chaos really enhances. It can almost feel like you're in a wrestling match with it, trying and failing to bend it to your will and then submitting and letting it take you where it always wanted to go. I love it.
Ahah, I bought a Lyra two weeks ago! (the black model). I enjoy it a lot and it's the only instrument I ever had that I like to play when I come back home drunk from the pub
The dreaded day when your gear shows up here, then he makes the most epic jams yet. You master everything you touch! It’s a weird ‘synth’ but nothing like it and it really does play you.
This has been on my wishlist for some time. I have (and use) the Reaktor emulation and the Pure Data one, but your vid has again reminded me how hardware can unlock creativity in ways not possible on a plugin. Soweit die beste Lyra-8 vorführung... Vielen Dank!
That a device I suggested made it perhaps accidentally to the show, still got me pleased. You mastered the challenge with that "Krawallkastl" extremely well. The Finale is impressive. This time's suggestion is the promising, chew gum ice colored (analogue looking but still digital) drum machine from Erica Synths, the Perkons HD-01.🌀

woah im early! hi florian! love ur show
Thank you so much!!!
It's great for making weird sound effects like sirens, telephones, and all that type of jazz. Also makes some crazy basslines that don't sound like anything else.
One of the newest instruments I've found that I can use and keep.
My boxes just got ticked son!!!!
😀😀😀
Okay. So, that was fantastic... And, now I'm really interested in seeing you tackle any of the new Stylophone stuff (the theremin, or the drone machine). Also, the Elta Solar 42.
Great work! I've never gotten the CV input to work, so I was impressed with that 2nd jam.
Thank you!!!
Florian, your show is called Bad Gear. You're really undercutting yourself by making this thing sound so freaking sweet!
Thank you!!!
this is by far the spookiest episode of Bad Gear
The Lyra 8 Is my goto live performance synth, I spend hours before the gig preparing, listening, entering a zen like state on mind meld with the thing.
Then on stage the moon is in a different phase, the planet wobbled, a leaf fell somewhere and everything is so wonderfully, fantastically different.
Not machine if you like to know what's coming next, but absolutely the best thing to just join the ride and discover places you hadn't even imagined.
Wow ! I just opened youtube to look for informations on this exact synth, and what do I see ? The man himself just released a video on it ! Awesome ! Superb jams as always !
you make it sing in that last jam ❤ beautiful work
Thank you!!!
I love my Lyra. It's probably the only instrument which you can play with milimeter adjustments of a feedback knob. And yes, ALWAYS record.
Always!!!
Have never been more ready for the tunes in the latter half
😀😀😀
that is some of the best dark minimal I have ever heard. Pure genius!
Thank you so much!!!
this thing is so cool, its got a really neat character to it
Oh shit! Just clicked play, really interested to see how this goes. Love my Lyra
this is the FORBIDDEN PLANET synth!! can I also add one of the most interesting and different (in a wildly good way) demo track.... I liked immensely how you acknowledged it took you to new places and the Final track was certainly original.... Great Job....
Thank you!!!
This is similar to one of the synths Bruce Haack built in the early 60s. I dig it.
👍👍👍
Great job. It is also possible to make some quite beautiful and emotional melodic sounds with it which the tendency towards chaos really enhances. It can almost feel like you're in a wrestling match with it, trying and failing to bend it to your will and then submitting and letting it take you where it always wanted to go. I love it.
Thank you!!!
Ahah, I bought a Lyra two weeks ago! (the black model). I enjoy it a lot and it's the only instrument I ever had that I like to play when I come back home drunk from the pub
Best piece of gear for that!!!
A review of my favorite synth in my collection filled with Stalker references; how could I not subscribe?
Thank you so much!!!
My friend made these badassz oscillators that reminded me of this but this is like an interactive bank of em, quite impressive
I love my lyra I just played it live at my local synths group open mic. It is awesome ❤❤❤
Nice!!!
Danke!!!
thanks for the heads up on the "lira 8" vst... sessions!
I love my lyra-8 i actually got some decent use out of it while working on a Doom Metal project
Nice!!!
Vielen Dank!!!
thank you Professor.. I felt a little warmth in my heart everytime I see a synth on Bad Gear I did adequate research on then passed on..
🤘😁
Thanks!!! Congratulations!!!
@@AudioPilz ..I might be in serious trouble if you start doing eurorack reviews...
This was different! And I do have a feeling that you actually enjoyed using this oddball synth.
Love it!!!
