@wisdomnwiamanie2975 The day you seek for asylum, your case gets assessed and if they find it credible for processing they give you a form to go do your medicals that helps you to get a work permit. All I know is work permit is part of the process. I don't know if that makes sense

Yes, immediately you start the process, the next thing is for you to do your medical examination and then a work permit. You should be able to get your work permit in 3months or a little more but shouldn't take longer than 6months. As for your case decision that may take time God knows how long
On what grounds would you be seeking the asylum coz I hope you know the meaning of asylum. If your life by anyway in danger in your own country and have tried seeking for help anywhere and failed, do you have evidence to prove your claim. If the answer to all the above questions is yes then you can go right ahead

@eronsenas4057 If you have an outstanding evidence to show that truly you're being discriminated and because of that discrimination your life is in danger can't be helped anywhere within your country then good luck for you. Poverty is not a reason enough to seek for asylum

When I filed I wasn't working so I couldn't afford a lawyer, got a government lawyer from Legal aid. But for my hearing I had to pay a private immigration lawyer because I was already working and was in eligible for a government paid lawyer
I don't know how best I can answer this. Telling you how much I paid my lawyer I think would be misleading coz the cost of lawyer fees varies from lawyer to lawyer and also the magnitude of your case. Its not uniform. I have seen people paying as low as CAD$4000 to as much as CAD$12000. If you're asking that to inform your decision sorry this may not be helpful. What I know is that for asylum before you start working and become independent, you can get lawyers paid by government under the legal aid
