Vera Watson taught me to rock climb in the Gunks in the early 1960's. Vera disappeared high on Annapurna at the end of this expedition. She was wonderful, kind, intelligent, and thoughtful.
Terrific interview. Was wonderful to get Arlene's perspective on the more mixed personal impact of the expedition alongside the positives it had for the wider climbing world.
This series deserves much more traction than they appear to be getting.

Arlene Blum is a legitimate badass. Annapurna in ‘78 one of the greatest climbs of all time.
I love Arlene. I look up to her for being a leader and for bringing women further into mountaineering.
How amazingly brave. So very interesting to hear of such fetes and actually come back alive.
