  • Annapurna - the 10th highest mountain in the world, is one of the deadliest eight-thousanders. It was first climbed by French climbers - Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal - in 1950 via the north face.
It was the first eight thousand-meters peak to be climbed. The first winter ascent of Annapurna I was made by Polish climbers Jerzy Kukuczka and Artur Hajzer in February 1987.
Vera Komarkova and Irene Miller were the first Americans to climb Annapurna I in October 1978. They were part of the American Women’s Himalayan Expedition led by Arlene Blum. Alison Chadwick-Onyszkiewicz and Vera Watson of the second summit team, died during the climb to Camp 5.
This is the story of the American Women’s Himalayan Expedition to Annapurna in 1978 !

At 12:15 "27,000 feet above Annapurna" should have phrased as "above Annapurna at 27,000 feet".

It’s okay for men to use sherpas and it doesn’t detract from their accomplishments but women got attacked for using male sherpas. Double standards.

      I agree with you.
      But who were the critics?
My guess....little overweight man with little penises ( or though they feel that way, it's all in the mind), that have always been intimidated by successful woman, are social inept when it comes to female company, that masturbate rather than have a woman ""On Top""....little yoke of mine.
      In short,
      a bunch of primitive misogynist!
So, please Sheila, don't let those losers get you upset.
And Yes, I'm 67, and the name of my British wife of 42 years is Sheila.
      Cheers Sheila

Wow....awesome video!! Seems this mountain is the most dangerous of all the 8000'ers. These women have my respect. But.....I still like my man on top.😅

So "shapers" are not human because it a all women's exploration. If the "shapers" are human than I'm sorry ladies, it's not a all women's exploration. Is there a fountain of youth up there?

Women man sherpa animal. I don't care who climbs it , if they do it they got my respect. They have to dodge sickness ,purified air, high altitude, avalanches and bad weather. This mountain is a killer. So if you try you are risking your neck.

A "woman's only expedition" but there will be male Sherpas

Sounds like something a chauvinist male would say. You do know that Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of Everest before Hillary, don't you? Nah, I didn't think so. Do some research & educate yourself before you try & clap back.

@@alisonauton4064 nope female just pointing out that they wouldn't have a male foreign climber but that male Sherpas were ok. There probably isn't many if any female Sherpas. Tho I hope that changes.

Good point. I figure if you need me to carry your stuff up a mountain, then you ain't really a mountain climber. Just rich.
