For 13 years I've walked with pain. Sometimes up to the point that I couldn't work out anymore. Went to hospitals, physiotherapists. Nothing, until I did this. Something clicked in my shoulder and it's good again. Haven't felt this good in 13 years. Thank you so much!!

Gonna keep this short…my shoulder was killing me after heavy bench press! My range of motion was limited and my shoulder would hurt with any movement. Did the towel trick and it helped a TON. Consistently been doing it even without the towel for a few days and the pain is reducing and my range of motion is almost fully back. Thank you so much appreciate your advice! Much love!
I have shoulder issues for more than 20 years. I have been doing shoulder rehabilitation regularly for more than 6 months. It has help to some extend. I can now do weighted pull up and standing and seated shoulder presses up to 18kg with good form and slow eccentric. However, the shoulder is still loose and i struggle the most with bench presses regardless incline or flat. I practise all the queues of getting a proper arch, stablising the scapular flat and flat on the bench etc. However, i am still unable to add weight without inflamming the shoulder. Also, traps activation with heavy weights, feels the stress and pain on the ac joint. I will add this to my rehabilitation exercise. Hope it will help my chronic issue.
Dr Joe I know this is an older video but really thanks so much for this short exercise, I've been dealing with an injury from a sprained AC joint for roughly 10-11 years and really upset it in the gym tonight. Just breaking up the tissue and doing this exercise a few times really relieved me of A LOT of pain. Your knowledge is a blessing brother, much love and happy holidays if you see this!
Thank you for having literally the only self help video for a dislocated AC joint, this is amazing, I’m baffled that two of my last chiropractors have not diagnosed my AC joint separation when my shoulders are an inch apart in height and one has a huge bone sticking up, I guess the state of our medicine is unbelievably bad, although I’ll keep looking for a good one, this exercise has been an immense help.

Gonna keep going for a few weeks of 3-4 times a week but with just one session of it, huge difference!
Just watched this video along with about 4 other videos and after just doing the massaging of listed areas, I’m already feeling some relief from the ac joint. The hand and towel trick definitely helped as well. There’s was a lot off popping/clicking going on while I was doing this.

That annoying pop sound when I move my arm around my chest and that pain is so annoying because of this AC joint pain I missed the gym for this 1 week because my shoulder hurts whenever I lift heavy. I will try this massage. I really hope that it'll work.
I injured my ac joint a few days ago. Fell off a motorcycle while unloading it from a trailer. Landed on my shoulder and hit my head. I got lucky it wasn’t worse. Is it too early to go see my chiropractor? I’ve been using my muscle stim device.
Dr Joe you are a god walking amongst men thank you so much I had a full left AC dislocation about 5 years ago and my AC joint unbeknown to me has become very stiff and has caused lots of issues with my trap and left side of my neck, I've been to to a chiro and physiotherapist in the UK and they came up with nothing useful. You hit the nail on the head with manipulation and in particular the AC joint released felt the relief straight away in my trap muscle and in particular the left side of my neck, will be sticking to this program it's helped me no end and thank you so much again.
Hi Benjamin it was very bad mountain bike accident grade 5 tour all for ligaments ended up with a hook and plate operation on the NHS very tough way back
Benjamin Vogel i think i was almost a grade 3 , i’m 3 months into recovery i’m just getting back into the gym (no chest shoulder or triceps work outs) (pretty much just back, bis and legs) and i’m still feeling it
I'm from Indonesia, thank you for the knowledge. I have been suffering from shoulder pain for 4 months. And it was very torturous. After I followed the movement you demonstrated the pain was reduced. Thank you.
That worked so well thank you so much. I've had a nagging ac injury for awhile and was considering going to the doctor for it. Did this one time and already the pain i had from crossing my arm over my chest is gone. You're amazing man! I only feel it now when i pull my arms apart with my hands interlocked, but I only did it once so far.
Heavy overhead movements general aggravate this type of problem. However, as weightlifters, we are not going to avoid training. Therefore, expect some pain after training. Ice the shoulder down for 20 minutes after lifting. Warm up good prior to working out. Using techniques that I demonstrate in this video are helpful. I do this all the time prior to training chest/shoulders. I also perform some light band exercises prior to lifting. As far as lifting, just let pain be your guide. If on a particular day, a certain exercise is hurting, then skip it for that day. Good luck!
I think that bump could be your ac joint itself. Does it look similar to what his shoulders have? Or is it larger? It's definitely not a dislocation, because that hurts like shit
Hey, I need some help I can feel my shoulder pop when I lift my arm up. I have it straight out in front of me and I lift it over my head I can feel the shoulder moving back when it pops. Could you help me get rid of this?
I was just recovering from a grade 1 AC separation and used these techniques during my recovery. However, if you are concerned, I would check with your doctor. Good luck!
Hi sir thanks for your video I have acromion pain issue almost for last 5 years and went to many doctors but all in vain.finally I went to a diagnostic center in 2019 the MRI reports showed that the acromion has straight under surface and is laterally down sloping. The doctor after checking the report said that It got to be operated. I was going to take risk of operation but due to covid-19 I didn't go to the hospital. There is unrest in my whole body due to this pain. What should I do??
Holy crap, I didn't think this was going to work because I thought you were just some shirtless gym bro in the thumbnail. I started doing the massaging movements at 5:40 and my shoulder feels way better. I couldn't find this info or technique anywhere else. Great info and video. Thanks doc!
If i have pain in the AC joint i can understand the massage methods you show work, because it does feel a bit better from it. But is it ok to do a release on it right away or should I do a couple days of massaging first? Thanks
Shoulder has been in pain for past two days getting started early to help minimize the lasting damage. Provided exercises work well thank you for sharing.
I have mild AC joint arthritis from all the overhead exercises I did in the past while body building. Orthopedic all they want is remove my AC joint. I don’t want to do any surgery what do you recommend? What should I do beside these exercises and also at night when I sleep, would it be beneficial to wear a sling? What about SAM-E as a supplement? I want to go back to lifting, please let me know what you think I should do.
Give the techniques on this video a try for a few weeks. Mild AC joint arthritis shouldn't require surgery. I would also think that wearing a sling at night would be very uncomfortable. Good luck my friend.
I have a massaging gun, can I use the tools on that and run it back and forth like you do that ball and do the same thing? I have bad pain in the right shoulder when at the gym and really holds me back on my chest and shoulder days. I’ve had my left shoulder fixed surgically but don’t wanna have to do surgery on the right if I can help it.
I don’t know if you’ll reply or not but I’ll give it a shot. For about a year, i’m having discomfort somewhere around AC joint. It came suddenly.. no fall or trauma. At first, it was really painful during a workout but i thought that it will go away eventually so i pushed through it. After couple of month, when i saw no improvement, I started going lighter on my training and watch out that there’s no any pain. Long story short - right now ( about year later ) pain has reduced drasticly but i still feel kinda “ pinch “ when i cross arm over my body. I’ve been to couple PT’s and they all told me theres nothing wrong with my shoulder but my trap and shoulder blade are very tight. My question to you is - could that “ pain “ i’m still feeling coming from trap ( part that you massage on the video ), or is it AC joint? And for the record, mine is not painful or tender to touch. Thank you so much in advance and i really hope to hear from you :)
No grinding or noises. I can move it no problem, it only hurts when I bring my arm across my chest (left shoulder) and AC area hurts to touch. I been letting it recover for 3 days. I want to work out, but don’t want to injure it more. But I’ll try you recommendations.
Great info, thanks very much. Is it normal to have a fair deal of pain for the second excercise where you used the towel and were rotating your arm? I found that caused me a fair deal of discomfort so had to stop?
It can so only perform the techniques right now that don't cause pain. Perhaps in a week or two, try the towel exercise again and see if it is less painful. Good luck!
I have had pain in Ac joint and inflammation for the last 6 months and i have to skip my workout because of pain , i did Mri but it shows moderate arthritis I want to do workout again without pain so what should I do plz suggest me
Sir , i play cricket, which requires a lot of shoulder rotation (fast bowling which is kind of similar to pitching in baseball),I did alot of bowling a few days ago ,so should i start bowling again after it gets healed or should u wait for some more time??
Pls help me because I have a shoulder pain after I do push up It doesn't hurt unless I do push ups , its been days now and the pain wont go away what should I do pls help me . And I am not sure if its really on my shoulder because I can feel it
Hey man, I really hope this comment reaches you, 22 year old aspiring athlete (MMA ). I injured my ac joint in September, i landed on it and the acromion swelled up, i gave it two weeks of rest and when the swelling went down i returned right back to training. The shoulder never felt the same since so about 3 months after the injury i got a cortisone shot from my doctor. Same thing took two weeks off and went right back to training. Is it possible i havent given it enough rest and need to step away from training completely for 4-6 weeks? Thank you so much you are the man
You might be jumping back into training a little too fast. Also, give these techniques some time. Keep working them for the next few weeks. Good luck!!
Usually in about 6-8 weeks you can get back to training. However, that depends on whether or not you are still having pain. If pain continues, have a doctor/therapist take a look at it.
What about excersises to keep ac joint stable as much as i can? Which muscles do i want to target? Rotator cuffs, upper trap? What about the no goes on excersises if the ac joint is unstable?
Shoulder stability is primarily obtained by keeping the rotator cuff muscles strong. We have quite a few videos on the channel going over various exercises. Good luck!
I've made crash last week, realy stupid but I've got Joint separation pl+ a bit cracked...They gave me Arm sling (how is the exact name do't know with my english..) 3 weeks ,after that I need X ray agay and I hopeeee it's gonna Heal naturaly 🙏🙏🙏🌞🌞🌞
You will have to experiment a little. Sometimes when I have had a sore AC joint, I can perform certain motions and not others. Perhaps incline movements might feel fine but flat press doesn't (or vice versa). Perform whatever exercises don't hurt until the AC joint calms down. Good luck!
Sir... its working.... I have been suffered ac joint sprain for more than 3 months.. I tried ur workouts... I feel better now.. can I go for gym workouts now ??? Because past 3 months am doing in small weights only... now can I do normal workouts ??like push up and shoulder workouts ??...a BIG thanks u sir... pls do more videos like this
You can workout if you are feeling better. However, just keep avoiding any exercises that cause any pain/discomfort. You don't want to aggravate the injury. Good luck my friend!
Back in 2011 I was in the gym doing some incline bench press. Started to get a sharp pain in my right shoulder joint. My uncle told me could be joint rubbing vain ? If that's the case. Is it a serious I mite have to go under the knife.
Thank you! My right shoulder already feels so much better and it's something I had been struggling with for the past 16+ years. My right hip kind of has the same kind of tightness and problem, it pops when I raise it from the ground. Not sure if the issue is connected somehow?
It doesn't hurt when I lift in the gym.. but it hurts on other awkward daily movements at if I sleep on it etc. Is it safe for me to still lift weights in the gym ? Or will it make the problem worse even though it doesn't hurt during the lifting movements... Cheers !
@@OcraMedHealth thanks for the response.. it doesn't hurt during the excersise but it's very sore the day after.. is this a red flag? I just want to make sure that I'm not worsening the problem.. thanks In advanced for the reply.
I would just be careful to keep the exercise light until the area is feeling better. No need to push it with heavy weights until the shoulder has healed.
Doc, my shoulder has been given me pain for the past 4 months and I couldn't figure out what it was. I was like "dang it's the little pointy bone on the top of my shoulder!" And it didn't start hurting until I did some front deltoid workouts. But now, I just did all the steps you provided and I instantly feel a relief in pain. Thank you for such a helpful video. God bless
I had a heavy fall onto my shoulder from a bike accident. It's my left shoulder that does not have teh wear and tear of my right shoulder. Is the rehab different for a fall as opposed to receptive use injury?
@@OcraMedHealth I'm 62 YO. My shoulder was fine before the accident. I am now 11 days post-accident. Much improvement but still sore. I have not done any rehab exercised yet.
@@user-jv9qz2bu1r It's a good sign that it is making improvement. I would have it evaluated to make sure everything is structurally OK. If it is, you can use the techniques on this video. Good luck!!
Hey Dr Joe, thank you so much this is extremely helpful for my AC joint pain! Any chance you can also make a video for intercostal pain? I have very tight ribs and am having trouble 'unglue-ing' them. Thanks!
Hi Dr Joe. Yes please intercostal video! My shoulder issue is from seatbelt injury from rear end car accident and I've had the intercostal problem and ac joint problem ever since but ribs seem to be taboo for people. Nobody really knows how to fix this that I've seen.
I have a 20 year old separated ac joint thats been an issue since day 1, even after 2 surgeries including a modified weaver and dunn that i never let heal . I was young and dumb when it happened. i didnt understand the injury and i never let it heal before going back to normal activities.. . its very unstable and i live in chronic pain that effects my quality of life.. im in great shape physically over all, i work out almost daily and target my ac join with physical therapy exercises .but it effects pretty much all my exercises .. when i do pull ups it feels like im not hanging evenly because theres so much instability in that shoulder that its reach is longer when hanging, its very frustrating. .. my shoulder blade position is different than my non injured side, its lower and sits flat almost .. i have achy back pain on that side daily and the appearance of a difference in leg length/hip height that i feel is all stemming from this shoulder injury..its like my entire injured side is effected ...do you have any advice for me ? i dont even know where to begin . thanks bud
Personally, I would continue to try to keep training but avoid any exercises that directly aggravate the area. If pretty much everything hurts, then I would take 4-6 weeks off from training. Good luck!
I fell in soap and hold my hand. To drum beside and my left shoulder just went inside its cavity i felt and i immediately tried to bring my elbow close and i felt it fit back and consulted local massager and they said nothing happend but now even after 2-3 years my hand muscles are not growing and neck to shoulder muscle is tight allot and left neck muscles are less grown and elbow pains sometimes and bicep and tricep and deltoid muscles aren't growing on left but right is good growth plz help
Sounds like you may need some professional therapy. In the meantime, you can try the techniques from the video for a few weeks and see if they provide some relief. Good luck!
It's hard to say. Give the techniques a try for a few weeks and see if it helps. I would also have the area evaluated by a professional if you haven't done so. Good luck!
Wow, thanks a lot it worked amazingly! Is it fine that I still have a little pain after doing this? Should I take rest from my workouts? Please respond.
Hi so as of today I recently dislocated my AC joint grade 3 i’m just wondering when should I be able to exercise I have a lot of pain still but want to take the proper steps into healing it
I dont injury i have on my shoulder but one time im carrying a heavy thing when i will carry the thing my shoulder pop after that because im a volleyball player when i spike on my right hand its hurts so bad like my shoulder is so weak can you say what injury is that and when i rotate my shoulder it sound like pop and cracking sound is this a ac joint ? Please answer my question 😔 and can i go to chiropractor to help me fix my shoulder? Its been 1 year or 2 years that my shoulder cracks every time i rotate
It's hard for me to say what is injured without performing an exam on the area. Find a good sports chiropractor/therapist in your area and have it checked out. Good luck!
I recently had a ac joint injury during football got hit somewhere around there and all of a sudden my right shoulder cracks out of nowhere and hurts insanely when I do a range of motion and it happens when I do something physical I need help
Do you recommend this for a acromioclavicular separation?i have a left slight elevation left clavicle, 6 views each acromioclavicular joint slight asymmetrical widening of acromioclavicular and coracoclavicular distances
I had a grade 3/100% ac separation but without any ripping or tearing of the ligaments. As a bodybuilder I now have my bone sticking way out of my shoulder and lots of instability. It’s pretty much ruined my BBing career at this point. Are their any exercises that I could continually do to put it back in place and resume BBing?
If you have a Grade 3 separation, then that means you have torn the supporting soft tissue. That is why the clavicle is sticking up. I would consult with an orthopedic for that type of injury. Exercises won't bring the clavicle back down. Good luck my friend!
Did the techniques from the video help? If the end of the clavicle is sticking up, you may have had an old shoulder separation. Did you ever injury your shoulder?
I have been dealing with this pain in my ac joint for a couple months now. The work I do seems to really hinder the healing process. I went to an orthopedic specialist and they told me they could fix it by doing surgery and cutting out a small piece of bone. Any helpful thoughts on surgery?
I'm not a big fan of any of those type of procedures. I would recommend seeing a good sports therapist or chiropractor before you opt for surgery. Good luck my friend!
sir can you understand what kind of symptom does this resemble to? i have had my left ring finger shake for quite few months, then it disappeared. Then that problem went to left foot...4th toe...if I were to spread my toes for sometime, i observe it starts shaking, and its always pulsating mildly from within with a bit of pain...is this some nerve blockage issue? sometimes even for left foot it goes away, but then again comes back....
I injuried myself with planche 5 motnhs ago, and before like month and a half I paused doing it so I focused on some other things like front lever and victorian cross. The pain never didn't stop, but it isn't hurting THAT bad, it's just hurting while doing push ups, or planche and it's cracking while rotating it. Will the excerise you gave in this video help me with my problem? Thanks in advance, amazing video!
It's hard to say for sure if it will help. However, if the techniques in the video feel OK when you perform them, there is no harm in trying them for a few weeks. Good luck! Keep me posted on your progress.
Well the origin of the bicep is in the general area which is why the pain is there. One tendon attaches to the supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula while the other attaches to the coracoid process of the scapula.
When I did that exercise I actually couldn't lift my elbow up and def couldn't pivot my hand up in the second step. Was too painful. Could that mean its an impingement instead of an AC problem?
Hi Dr. I hear popping in external rotation and shoulder extension when my arm is bent. My trap has hurt for a month. I think it’s the ac joint but it doesn’t hurt in any other motions. I think I hurt it doing a ring push-up but didn’t hear or feel anything. Any idea? Thanks
Hi Todd! Sorry, but it's impossible to diagnose without examining the area. Have you had it looked at by a sports doctor/therapist in your area? Have you tried any of the techniques in the video? Any relief after doing them?
No, everyone is closed due to what's going on. I did try your technique only once. I will try it a few more times. I can believe the noise my joint is making. I think I only have a grade one sprain so I'll just rest it. It's been about a month and I will as still doing pull ups and push ups and light dunbells (35,lbs) I think I just need to rest it. Do you think the cracking will go away eventually?
It's hard to say if the cracking will go away. I don't know how old you are, but I'm 55 and I hear all sorts of cracking and creeking sounds when I work out on lots of joints! lol. My thought is, if it doesn't hurt it can't be anything to serious. Good luck my friend!
My shoulder right now is so bad.. I throw a stone and then Bang my left shoulder is totally locked! I cant move it properly. Hoping you give me some advice to do.
I have ac joint pain. I feel it only when i pull either weights or pullups and i have no problem when i push up with shoulder. Can i do the same training for relief?
I went to physiotherapy for the AC joint, he gave me 3 sessions of ultrasound and told that it would be all right with the time and it's been 5 days i haven't workout but the pain is still there. Should what should I be doing..Pls guide

The AC joint is usually pretty visible on people, especially if they are lean.
Great video.
Suggestion. AC joint widening can be achieved using a tennis ball under the armpit and squeezing ?
I wouldn't want to do that. Blood vessels and nerves are in that area.

I’m having the same issue, is you’re shoulder discomfort gone?
@@adrianmurillo142 Are you going to the gym and doing shoulders during your season
Because that can be putting too much pressure on your shoulder
Got any tips on how to perform exercises for chest and shoulders when you have osteolisis of the distal clavicle without aggravating the pain?
Heavy overhead movements general aggravate this type of problem. However, as weightlifters, we are not going to avoid training. Therefore, expect some pain after training. Ice the shoulder down for 20 minutes after lifting. Warm up good prior to working out. Using techniques that I demonstrate in this video are helpful. I do this all the time prior to training chest/shoulders. I also perform some light band exercises prior to lifting. As far as lifting, just let pain be your guide. If on a particular day, a certain exercise is hurting, then skip it for that day. Good luck!
@@OcraMedHealth Thanks appreciate the advice. I already had one AC resection in the left shoulder. Trying to avoid it in the right.👍🏼
thank you for the time and video, will this work to lower a bump that is there... or would that be a dislocation... thanks...
I think that bump could be your ac joint itself. Does it look similar to what his shoulders have? Or is it larger? It's definitely not a dislocation, because that hurts like shit
An injury to the AC joint is called a separation. A dislocation is an injury to the gleno-humeral joint.
@@infernalpenguin1469 it's perhaps not even as high as his are, but one side is more than the other now... thanks for the reply

That's what the video is for. Give it some time. At least 3-4 weeks of working the techniques. Good luck.
Great video! I have distal clavicle osteolysis in both shoulders. Any advice on how to get back to certain weightlifting exercises?
The techniques on this video should help depending on the severity of your injury. Good luck!
Thanks for posting this video. Can I do these exercises with grade 1 AC joint separation?
I was just recovering from a grade 1 AC separation and used these techniques during my recovery. However, if you are concerned, I would check with your doctor. Good luck!
How did your ac joint separation issue get fixed? This will be very helpful. Thank you
Hi sir thanks for your video
I have acromion pain issue almost for last 5 years and went to many doctors but all in vain.finally I went to a diagnostic center in 2019 the MRI reports showed that the acromion has straight under surface and is laterally down sloping.
The doctor after checking the report said that It got to be operated.
I was going to take risk of operation but due to covid-19 I didn't go to the hospital.
There is unrest in my whole body due to this pain. What should I do??

Thank you my friend. Glad I could help!
If i have pain in the AC joint i can understand the massage methods you show work, because it does feel a bit better from it. But is it ok to do a release on it right away or should I do a couple days of massaging first? Thanks
The release work is fine to perform unless it is painful for you.
@@OcraMedHealth Thank you!

You can try the gun. Just be careful because it's a pretty boney area of the body.
How to fix gap between ac joint pllzz reply🙂
If there is a gap you may have separated your AC joint. Have you had a doctor look at it?
Good luck! Just make sure to avoid any exercises that you feel directly aggravates it.
Is this exercise suitable if you have an moderate AC separation ? im trying to avoid surgery if I can , thanks

Good luck!!
I had a grade 1 or 2 AC sprain. How long until I can start weightlifting again? Thanks
Good luck!
Awesome video dude

What if u have full range of motion but your ac joint Is injured it’s been 4 weeks feels tender to touch and is not getting any better

Are there any chest exercises I can do with a painful ac joint?
You will have to experiment a little. Sometimes when I have had a sore AC joint, I can perform certain motions and not others. Perhaps incline movements might feel fine but flat press doesn't (or vice versa). Perform whatever exercises don't hurt until the AC joint calms down. Good luck!

Do you recommend this for a acromioclavicular separation?i have a left slight elevation left clavicle, 6 views each acromioclavicular joint slight asymmetrical widening of acromioclavicular and coracoclavicular distances
Not if you just injured it. This isn't a treatment for a new AC joint separation.
I have fluid in my ac joint and my doctor gave me some medicine will this exercise help me?
I can't say for sure if it will help. Only perform it if you can do it comfortably and without any pain. Good luck with your injury!
I have a question, my ac joint is like sticking out of my shoulder and it’s from bench pressing im pretty sure, do you have any advice?
Did the techniques from the video help? If the end of the clavicle is sticking up, you may have had an old shoulder separation. Did you ever injury your shoulder?
I have been dealing with this pain in my ac joint for a couple months now. The work I do seems to really hinder the healing process. I went to an orthopedic specialist and they told me they could fix it by doing surgery and cutting out a small piece of bone. Any helpful thoughts on surgery?

@@OcraMedHealth thank you, you are amazing man! :)
Thanks for this video. If this joint is sore could it refer pain to the biceps muscle?
Well the origin of the bicep is in the general area which is why the pain is there. One tendon attaches to the supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula while the other attaches to the coracoid process of the scapula.
How do you lock the clavicle? Mine still moves as I am lifting my shoulder up
It's a little tricky but with some practice you will get better at it.
When I did that exercise I actually couldn't lift my elbow up and def couldn't pivot my hand up in the second step. Was too painful. Could that mean its an impingement instead of an AC problem?
If you can't perform the techniques demonstrated you should have the injury evaluated. Could be a number of different types of injuries.
