    What I love about Indian food is that even if you're not a meat eater, they do things to vegetables that make them beautiful and interesting and above all satisfying. This place is over the top. Thanks Mark and Ming.

      @@johaygood588 Just to be clear, please note that I did not indicate that anyone who is Indian, is or isn't a vegan. I was using the aetherial you , meaning " one or anyone" not Indians particularly. I was meaning to indicate that Indian vegetable recipes are unusually interesting and tasty. English can be confusing.

    • @stevenpdxedu
      @stevenpdxedu 3 года назад +33

      Still, one has to acknowledge that 27% of 1.4 billion souls is a lot of vegetarians. More than in any other country. That's 369 million (or so), slightly more than the entire population of the US. Not to mention others that eat both. Any way you slice it, India is an impressive country even if misunderstood by some.

    • @Dumpy332
      @Dumpy332 3 года назад +17

      Let me clarify that proportion of vegans is small in India as compared to vegetarians. Almost all Indians consume dairy. Even the most strict vegetarian Jain community also consume dairy.

    • @AD10894
      @AD10894 3 года назад +8

      @@johaygood588 There are also Vaishnavs who are strict vegetarians and have been so for centuries, not just Jains. But you are right, people need to be more accepting of food choices (whether one eats meat or not) and not infringe on anyone's right.

      @@johaygood588 dude sounds like you have inferiority complex. I've been to India and I loved the Hindu culture, the people and their food.
      Poverty exists everywhere.
      I think you don't have too much knowledge, you're probably a urban youth who's never seen the beauty of rural India. You only see them as poor.

      just the limitations are religion which prohibits people in india from eating beef and pork but we are a democracy so we can eat but here comes the rich religious organisations who kill people on doing that and the current government is their indirect subsidiary so yes we can't eat or cook certain foods.

      @nothing .. it’s not religion thing not to eat beef and pork . We Indians grow up having pet cows in our village family , and we don’t eat our pet they are our family members ..just like you won’t eat your pet cat or dog if you are hungry.. and for pork, pigs in India are mostly found in drains eating human poop .. so we don’t eat animal who feeds on our poop .. do a bit of research next time mate before typing..cheers..

    for anyone confused, The chef and staff are from Nepal that is a border country of India and has very fewer restrictions, so many Nepali's come down to India and work in restaurants. Since it became economically viable many of these talented Nepali's also moved to Thailand as they have similar features and the cultures are also pretty similar. That is why you have an "Asian" looking chef making Indian food in Thailand.

    Mark, can I be your long lost sister. Lol. I just stumbled across your page looking up how to make Trinidad chicken curry. Trying to make it home. I love your reactions when you eat. So glad your family gets to enjoy your travels with you! My sister and I would love an around the world foodie trip. It's on the bucket list! I love all kinds of ethnic foods. Most Americans don't know how delicious ethnic foods are. I told my sister: "If I ever get to visit Trinidad, that I would book a hotel a stone's throw from the street vendors. I eat Trini for breakfast, lunch, and dinner until it's all gone! No lie. A friend asked me if I wanted to try her curry and I said yes. OMG! I would give her $50 every 10 days to make it for me. She was going to show me how to make it but she took ill and ended up in the hospital. Within days she was gone. She had cancer everywhere. It was too late to save her. 😪 I love good food. I hope I can do a foodie tour in the future. I would hit all the Caribbean Islands first! Thank you for bringing us with you on your trips!
