I have about 5 episodes left on “Vikings” and will then watch the first season of “Valhalla”. I also plan on diving into “The Last Kingdom” as I’ve heard good things.
The Last Kingdom is Amazing. Historically speaking, it aligns with Vikings when the story starts around the time the Sons of Ragnar took England with the Great Heathen Army.
If any of Y'all like Vikings, I highly recommend checking out the anime and manga Vinland Saga. It takes place during the life of Cnut. While it's definitely not 100% historically accurate, the author takes great pride in representing the time period.
Yes, absolutely agreed, Vinland Saga is a brilliant anime and manga based on Vikings. I'd say it's definitely pretty great in its own ways of representing Vikings and the time period. The Author definitely takes pride in his representation of the time period while being very passionate about the story, characters and history. Vinland Saga is amazing and There is alot of other great historical anime and manga that need recognition as well. i also love watching/reading great Historical media in general.

I like some liberties here and there but if you're gonna make a "historical drama" at least have a good semblance with how it was or else just add aliens and cowboys in it too.

Last Kingdom: nearly everything to do with the Mercians. Especially Aethelred. It puzzles me why film studios butcher the actual history for added drama. The real stories are actually more amazing than the shows. Please don’t think I’m being prudish about it though. Their all amazing shows with a good deal of true history.
I think half of the reason they butcher it is so their show/movie whatever doesn't become easily predictable. Especially if you study history like I do, watching shows and already knowing what's gonna happen because you studied it kind of takes the fun out of watching it. Don't give your hopes up. They have Haakon the good, one of the greatest vikings In Scandinavian history, played as a black woman.
If you want it to stick to history go watch a documentary instead!
