Gene's side of this story may not be completely true, or there may be more to it than he's said here, but he (and Paul) do have a history of getting behind up and coming bands and giving them a push. They certainly did for RUSH.

Before Paul could turn to Gene Simmons to explain about signing them, Gene had already left his seat and had snuck backstage to meet them. I despise Gene, but it is quite magnanimous how he let Van Halen go contractually and financially. This is true

Agreed. He probably saved them from selling their souls early on though.
Kind of a no brainer there...but KISS certainly put out far more product, toured far more and out earned VH by a good margin. Gene is Mr. Business. Gene was the first person to get VH properly recorded, although the final takes on VH I and II are superior versions of songs from those sessions. The arrangements are different. You can hear the Electric Ladyland recordings on YT.

@@southsider3542 Thank you. I knew his story was "different" but wasn't 100% sure . Still Simmons does not offer any proof and I do not know how much his word is worth not knowing him. I am a bit jaded because I have had to investigate so many phony Vets over the years. I was surprised that KISS has recently demonstrated a genuine patriotic streak.
