- In this video I go through the process I take to replace a high pressure fuel pump on Kia and Hyundai
vehicles.
The process is fairly simple but caution must still be taken to ensure no personal injury or damage to occurs to the vehicles.
I hope you enjoy.

Easy as 1, 2, 3
Mine turned over in less than 2 seconds after replacing this part (of course I thought it was my spark plugs initially).
Thanks for the video.
you are welcome.

thanks for watching
@@JLsAutoSolution👍 watched it also as part of my research and diagnostic.
Thank you for showing all the steps clearly
I was lied to! I thought this would take me less than 10 minutes, but it took almost an hour! lol good video
If you need to drain the tank, is purging the system needed? I'm trying to avoid ANY of this gas running thru the system, so and just want to disconnect and drain from the low pressure feed line
Good Vídeo Friend.
Greetings
I would have liked to see in more detail how you got those clips off. Which side of that gray ring did you pry?
yeah fax. it’s not coming off
i’ve prayed from both sides. squeezed galore idk dude. can’t find any other videos tho that show this TYPE of clip
I want to read my low side fuel pressure on a 2011 Kia optima 2,4
Is there another option besides buying a $150 special adapter to hook up a gauge?
Trying to make my own with the fittings to adapt but have no clue what size the fittings are on the low side of pump. Thanks
yes, lisle makes a full kit that can be used on multiple vehicles. but that connection is needed sorry. if you have other connector that can make a t-joint that will work also.
2:01 Would it be safe to reuse the same hi pressure fuel line if I'm using the same pump? I just need to remove the pump to replace the valve cover gaskets. Same pump will go back on to the same fuel line = OK?
Service manual says to replace it. Due to the fact that there is a crush effect when torqueing the pipe. or esle there could be fuel leakage and it could cause a fire.
Just had the same pump in my Hyundai Accent go out. For the high pressure line replacement, were the torque specs the same for the line attached to the GDI pump and the side of the hose attached to the fuel rail?
typically 24 ft/lbs for both. in manual. always replace the line, if you don't fuel could leak out and cause a fire
For the lp line. Were you pressing the grey plastic circle towards the pump or outwards pressing in to the fuel line? I was trying to remove the one on my veloster but it wasnt coming out.
You need to push toward the pump
thanks for watching
The HPFP bolts...I noticed the head of the bolt matches the ones that are used for the spark plug boots. are they in fact the same bolt or different ? - Thanks !
different part numbers, so i would advise against using the coil bolts,
Ahh yes what a wonderful video of your hands being in the fucking way
Is the pump supposed to be seated all the way day or will there be a small gap between the valve cover and pump?
no. there is a little gap inbetween the pump and mounting surface.
thanks for watching.
Where did you get the tool you used to release the low pressure line? Like to acquire one. Thank You!👍🇺🇸
that tool is just a clip remover that fits perfectly for the line removal.
does the battery need to be disconnected in order to remove high pressure fuel pump?
It would not hurt to remove the negative battery terminal, but I personally feet it is unnecessary, just keep the key out of the ignition.
I broke but accident my electric connection plug , is a way I can just replace the gray connection
sorry for the late response, which connector are you taking about.
After you have installed the high pressure fuel pump, what is the procedure for starting the engine afterwards and getting fuel back into the line? I was waiting for that at the end of the video, but it was not included. Thanks in advance.
you only need to crank the engine over after everything is replaced. it may take a few seconds for the vehicle to start.
Where is the high pressure fuel pump on a Kia Sedona mk2 2008 please great video bye the way 👍
I guess that’s where I messed up 1:07 … I only let it stalled once & then I tried to take out the electrical connector & low pressure line but once I got to the high pressure line it started squirting a lot fuel so I didn’t even continue it :/
How do you pull off low pressure fuel line?
the clip needs to be pushed evenly inwards
In the begaining first u said to remove the high pressure fuel pump(1) on fuse box lid. Then u said the lower fuel pump fuse. Number (2) on the fuse box lid which one is it
I misspoke in the beginning by saying high pressure fuse, but then correct my self right after and say low pressure.
so remove the low pressure fuel pump fuse.
The high pressure fuel pump in controlled by the ecm so there is no fuse for it.
thanks for watching
do you also replace the gasket under the fuel pump?
you could but i never have, that gasket is only for oil.
Thank you for the video. Was the old fuel pump still operating during this video? How do I relieve fuel pressure if my pump isn’t operating at all? I remove the LP fuse and it dies immediately, doesn’t run for 5 minutes. I think it’s because my pump is flat out not working at all. Any ideas? Thanks again!
check for lp with a fuel guage. if during cranking it is not working suspect a low pressure issue( but not necessarily the pump) perform a full diag. thanks for watching.
@@JLsAutoSolution thanks for the reply. Mechanic has confirmed it is the HP fuel injection pump. Car is cold in the garage, can I just proceed with safety goggles and rags?
I'm only at 3,300 miles but I'm experiencing sputtering, choking and ultimately dying of the engine. Sounds a lot like fuel cutoff to me but I'm no technician.
IS THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY? IF SO HAVE THE DEALER LOOK AT IT, NO SENSE IN WASTING YOUR TIME ON SOMETHING THAT IS UNDER WARRATY..
THANKS FOR WATCHING
@@JLsAutoSolution It's at the dealer right now and I am waiting to hear back. Under warranty, yes, but they always like to deny warranty work when they see mods to the car like bolt ons.
I accidentally broke the grey tab, can it be replaced? Without buying a whole new line?
you mean the lock tab from the low pressure line
@@JLsAutoSolution the one you push towards the pump, i broke it as well :c can it be replaced?
May I ask what the part number is for that line please?
it depends on the model of vehicle, you could search online and find it for your specific vehicle.
Great video man.
Question: did you mean to say to remove the low pressure pump fuse or the high pressure pump fuse....it sounded like you said low.
no th elow pressure fuse.. is coorect. the low pressur feeds the high pressure. no lowe pressure= no start- no high pressure mean low power.
@@JLsAutoSolution oooooOOo. Okay. Cool man🤘😎🤘
Would a bad one cause a loud ticking noise
The gdi pump is normally noisy and has a loud ticking sound, if there is no dtc's pertaining to the fuel pressure i would not bother with it.
thanks for watching
The fuel pump camshaft follower seems to be a really common issue and makes a lot of noise. If you remove the hpfp and pull the follower out, you can check the play and replace it easily. I just bought one. It was about $80.
Mine ticks loud as hell when it's cold and then once warm it's quiet. I think it's the follower and my car only has 15 k on it.
Something feels broke need to fix it,I cry out for help but they listen....I'ma be a loner tell it's finish.

This comment is goated 😂💪🏾
What was the the issue with it Jeremy?
No issue. At clients request. Explained that there was no need if no codes and no issues..
Still wanted it replaced.
@@JLsAutoSolution 🤔
@@TheGibby3340 thats what i thought lol.. But it was at my main job... They said change it.. So changed it
could we know why the high presure pump is replace for ...code or leaking
At clients request.. No diag was performed.. Client refused any diag.
Thanks for watching
What are normal symptoms if it starts going bad? All or nothing? Having a rough idle and trying to figure out a list of things to check.
Starting off.. Rough idles could be electrical or mechanical. If you do not have a scan tool with at least generic obd2 data, I would start by getting one.
2- verify fuel trims/ misfires data . see if its happening on one cylinder or multiple.
That's just for starters.. Gdi pump's will either code a high pressure or low pressure issue. But there are many variables to consider..
Start off with basics.. Just out of curiosity. What vehicle are we talking about..
@@JLsAutoSolution 2016 Tucson. Rough idle and mpg going down. Replaced oxygen sensor and MAP sensor. Did a CRC GDI spray cleaning with an impressive amount of crud coming out of the exhaust. Maybe that will help. It has 95k miles, bought at 60k so unsure of maintenance before that.
Dropped a boroscope and the valves are seriously gunked up, even after a can of GDI cleaner.
@@tedwalton6985 HYUNDAI AND KIAS ARE VERY NOTORIOUS FOR HAVING HEAVY CARBON BUILD UP ON THE VALVES... THIS IS DUE TO THE FUEL BEING DIRECTLY SPRAYED INTO THE CYLINDER(GDI) INSTEAD OF HAVING THE FUEL/AIR CHARGE ENTER THROUGH THE INTAKE VALVE(MPI). THE FUEL IS WHAT KEPT THE INTAKE VALVES CLEAN.
I NORMALLY PERFORM MULRTIPLE CLEANINGS IN ORDER TO BRING THE INTAKE VALVES BACK TO SOMEWHAT OF A NORMAL STATE... TYPICALLY I SUGGEST THIS AT 24000KM.. NOW BE ADVISED THAT EACH TIME A CLEANING IS PERFOMED A OIL CHANGE SHOULD BE PEROFMRED ALSO..
@@JLsAutoSolution What do you normally use? I used the CRC GDI cleaner.
Is this the 3.3 V6???
4cylinder
ill better pay to some friend to do it . don't wanna brake anything
Nice job but i never seen one with problema...
hey ricardo.. I agree that it is rare to see a failed gdi pump but it does happen.. here a video ruclips.net/video/lF4BSTl_S5w/видео.html.
Typically the leak more than fail completely.
thanks for watching
I have video..
It's actually not uncommon for these to start leaking gasoline into the engine block where it starts mixing with engine oil. Can do a lot of damage to the engine if goes unnoticed which can happen easily as often you don't even realize somethings wrong.
Fakeworld. Really? Did you read the manual? Did you turned on this engine on this video?
compound Objection, hearsay
Next time you due a video make it up close
will do.. thanks for the input
You literally spend half the video with your hands in front of the camera so we can’t see what you’re doing.
