- Both Hazelwood and Florissant are a pair of North County suburbs that are still decent places to live. However, both municipalities have lost population overtime. Hazelwood is home to the former St. Louis Mills Outlet Mall which failed arguably from being under poor ownership. Florissant has been forced to downsize their public schools due to lower enrollment rates from population loss.

I haven't to this area in years and enjoyed seeing all those pretty low-slung brick ranch-style houses and green lawns they have. It brings back childhood memories even though this isn't where I grew up.
That Ferguson-Florissant School Administration building being torn down was originally Florissant Junior High School. I attended 7th, 8th and 9th grades there in '63 thru '65. I was in the 8th grade and eating lunch in that school's cafeteria when the principal came in and announced that President Kennedy had just been shot. We finished lunch, returned to class and just sat in our last 3 classes listening to non-stop radio coverage of the news piped in over the school intercom system until the end of the school day. So sad to see my old Junior High being demolished.
Too bad it couldn't be repurposed. That style is in now.
When you do Bridgeton make sure to drive by the nasty burning radioactive landfill lol.

There really are though. I didn’t realize until I started exploring this year.

Florissant/ Spanish lake/ black jack change a lot it more hoods and gangs in their areas but some areas are low income and sum are Middle class and the houses are falling apart in areas too and their a lot of vacant houses now and their more becoming vacant too
Just sad this area ain’t the same like in the 1990s it change in 2000s and just got worst too

Well done! Grew up there in the 60s and 70s. Knew every street and drove on many times ( after the first 5 mins). Its like you did a tour of all my hang outs and friends parents houses.

So many people and businesses are getting the hell out of St Louis City and St Louis County , because this place is a cesspool. Abandoned on Vice was here and Vice did a great job. FYI. Ha Ha Ha I did the same thing. Back in 1985. I learned to drive my first car in the Hazelwood West Parking lot. We left there the summer of 86. Haven't been back since. Nothing looks the same. 🇺🇸🦅✌️

I used to live in Hazelwood and Maryland Heights back when the St. Louis area was good. So glad I don't live there anymore.
There are still some good areas in the St. Louis area today
@@ChrisHarden Come to Denver (where I'm at now) and see what's a GREAT area like. The problem with St. Louis is the city and the county work against one another instead of together.

Chris what few acceptable areas there are, are gone in near future
Higher crime areas on average, reflected in the price of housing. The crime gets higher when you move east, and lower when you move south.
Some parts of the West are pretty good, put I agree, South and Southwest St Louis are the best parts. The mid parts like Clayton are good to.
Yes, I was shocked several years ago when I was looking at how insanely cheap the houses in Florissant have become. Looks nice as you drive through for the most part but with the prices and seeing inside some of those houses makes you think twice!

IMO, I would say building a mall in the middle of nowhere was just dumb. There are no homes or businesses nearby, thus no reason to travel there.
Sam difference with the St Louis Premium Outlets. Both built in flood plains in areas slightly away from the population. There are no other malls in North County (Jamestown was done by time the Mills came). I think many other factors impacted the Mills including classic racism and poor misconceptions about North County if we’re being real.

@@drh3b It was just so horrible before hand, I knew some people who died on 270 because of how treacherous it is before they started the makeover. Alot of the locals actually wanted this because it was just way too old of infrastructure made for traffic that was way less then what it is now, but we will see how it works out when it's all said and done.

Lol. This video analysis was comical. I grew up in and around Bridgeton and let me tell you………I lost count of all the crime there before the airport bought it out. Carrolton baby!…………Crime everyday. Fights…….all the time. Got in a fight with some drunk adult as a teenager in the parking lot of the bowling alley and over by the gas station. Toxic nuke dump nearby. Straight garbage. Wish I never lived there.

Wow thanks guy was amazing. i remember when St Louis Mills mall open. i think the demise of this mall was it was to big and to expensive(very) and the location also. thanks again for the aswesome catches. also people was getting robbed, i heard not a safe area.
I believe that one the Mills originally opened it was supposed to be a discount mall and it lasted for a little bit immediately my thoughts are these malls won't last with online sales and not enough foot traffic not to mention the rent is sky high even at many strip malls

St. Louis County should just consolidate all of its school districts together so there won’t be that much of declining enrollment and problems.
