Everything you need to know about Olympic Modern Pentathlon.
A classic contest played out in five acts: fencing, swimming, horse riding, shooting and running - with all the events taking place on the same day. Part of the Olympic Games since Stockholm 1912, modern pentathlon has men’s and women’s competitions.

That must be one long day.
I really like the videos on equestrian sports.
Thanks for another entertaining video
0:15 how tall is that guy?!
Also u23’s do tetrathalon which is basically the same thing minus the fencing, then 712’s do minimums which is tetrathalon minus the shoot.
And then you get bamboozled by the horse 😂😂
wow
You must have a lot of money to practice Fencing and Horse riding.
It doesn't necessarily cost that much to fence (I'm a fencer =P), but at that level yeah. Horse riding is much more expensive though.
It doesn't necessarily cost that much to horse riding (I'm Mongolian =P)
As it said in the video you don't have your own horse, and you only have 20 minutes to familiarize yourself with the horse. I am not sure how much fencing actually costs.
Amgalan Bat-Erdene I have Seen that in Mongolia there are many horse sports and also since there is a lot of free territory and low population, easy to take care of them, but i dont know if that is very True, but that is not always easy in other places.
Good luck to Mongolia at the olympics from El Salvador.
I compete at 1.30m show jumping and yearly it cost me about 5-7 thousand dollars (horse tack , feed , show fee , etc)
Master everything master is nothing
this sport should not exist
why
Why not say that they run two miles instead of the wholly ungainly "3.2km"?
Most of the world doesn't use miles so why
Because your a fuckhead
Ace Reaper Soft lad. But you're always good for a giggle, so I'll let you off....
Ivan Gonzalez Aha! Really! The most advanced nation in the world, the U.S., uses miles - and you're calling them savages! What foolishness!
+Chris Owens It's a meme, I didn't invent that
This really deserves more attention. I cannot imagine preparing for this event. You basically have to do well on 5 sports which has almost little to no correlation between each others.
They are sort-of related, this is the kind of skills a military officer must master which brings back the martial origin of the olympic games.
Also u23’s do tetrathalon which is basically the same thing minus the fencing, then 712’s do minimums which is tetrathalon minus the shoot.
And you have to be rich. Lessons and time in all those various sports, and fencing and horseback riding are not so common or accessible.
i can't believe how all these athletes survive all these sports in one day
Leogaming Torres it’s all fun, that’s how we do it
Leogaming Torres Also u23’s do tetrathalon which is basically the same thing minus the fencing, then 712’s do minimums which is tetrathalon minus the shoot.
All the skills a good military courier of the late 19th century would be expected to display.
Exactly, which is kind of ironic because it's not so modern anymore but it's still cool 😆
Emily Swiftstone just like javelin throwing and archery. old but gold :)
This should be called the Three Musketeers event
I thought triathlons were crazy, but this?!
Guys in the comments! I've read through alot, and people have been saying its hard to train. Join a club! There's plenty of clubs in the world aha. I am a modern pentathlete and its relatively cheap, I run, shoot, and fence as part of that club. I swim in a separate club and Ride at a farm.
i realize this was [3]Years ago, but i just want You to know i’m planning to walk through that same path at some point soon in time & i have a whole lot of respect & appreciation for You that You’ve delved into such an Awesome Awesome endeavor... truly amazing! whatever it is you’re doing now in your life, i hope You always always take pride in this (possibly still on-going) chapter of your story... i hope all is well & i Wish You All the Best Alissa 🙂💜
This is probably the most "noble" olympic sport.
General George Patton competed for Team USA in the 1912 Olympics in this event. I believe he finished 5th.
He got disqualified when he shot all the horses and threw them over the bridge!!!
@@prettynoose8497😂😂😂
This looks super difficult
No doubt this event is difficult. But the quality of each athlete is not that great. These are simply wealthy people trying their athletic best. Imagine how good this sport would be to watch if costs were not a factor?
@@newttella1043 There's national teams which receive direct subsidies from their respective govts. How do you think athletes make a living while training 6 hrs. per day?
@@torresinfesta643 A subsidy only reduce costs. The athlete still needs substantial funding to pay for all the equipment, coaching, training facilities etc. These are all costs BEFORE an athlete is even competitive. No one is sponsoring or subsidizing a new or beginner athlete. They must have their own wealth just to start.
@@newttella1043 and this is a problem how ? , like it s not that way in every single other sport ? again my hunch is that you r e roblem with this is because most of them are white.
@@mantasvilunas2636 If a sport only draws participants from a very small portion of the population, is it really the best that it could be?
Does the background music sounded like the Power Puff Girls opening song or is it just me??
The Pentathlon has to be one of the stupidest sports out there and I adore it so much

Baron de Coubertin rotates in his grave.
Wait will it not be a part of 2028?
@@kincaidstri2733The show jumping event will be replaced with an obstacle course.
The show jumping element needs to be removed, or people should use their own horses. Absolute horse abuse and it’s disgusting. 20minutes to familiarise yourself with a horse is obsurd - a horse needs much longer than 20 minutes. Can’t believe it really.
So if they allowed me to bang together two empty halves of coconut that I found in Mercia just before the show jumping part, would that count as the unfamiliar horse?
Why am I laughing so much?!! 🤣🤣🤣😆
Pentathlon Training Session is like Soldiers Training in Military Camp
that's cool. but does the athlete win 5 medals? lol jk
would love to do this tho, just seems expensive to learn and train for all of those
-8.14-
The beat is really good :-)
yo the last comment was 8 months ago
I used to do this; it was great fun :).
The music was ghastly.
How would you even train for this? Also what if the horse you got allocated didn't like you..lol
I was wondering about this as well... Surely they can't ensure that every horse was going to have exactly the same temperament to make it fair?
I think each team brings its own horses and they use those for the draw, so the horses are used to show jumping. But you are right; if the horse decides that it doesn't like you, you're pretty much screwed.
@@ryancontino9752 ….. 4 years later did you see what happened the other day?
an archery quick guide please :)
That's really cool tho!
looks very tiring. I'll stay on my couch eating cheetos
Also u23’s do tetrathalon which is basically the same thing minus the fencing, then 712’s do minimums which is tetrathalon minus the shoot.
What r the steps to get in this game at olympic level
This has got to be the coolest Olympic sport. Anybody want to challenge me?
But sadly it's one of the less followed by the audience. Many people have issues following combined sports events (especially on the scoring part).
Yes, provided that we could use empty halves of coconut that we found on the way as the unfamiliar horses.
I think this one is the coolest!
ah, you have been running for about 10 km? here is your gun
Wow, those are on different leverl mashallah ❤️
What is the name of the song used in the video, please?
Durade - sandstorm
