I am Gujarati living in Mumbai, we celebrate Diwali since we belong to this culture. Ismailis if Central Asia celebrate different cultural traditions.

Dr. Andani, thank you very much for these video series on the Isma'ilis. It is very informative for those of us wanting to learn more. In this video, you mentioned that Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq was the 6th Imam. However, if you consider Imam Husayn ibn 'Ali to be the 2nd Imam, as Isma'ilis do, then Ja'far al-Sadiq would be the 5th Imam. He is considered the 6th Imam by the Twelvers because for them the Imamat went from 'Ali to Hassan as the 2nd Imam, and then Husayn as the 3rd Imam. Please let me know if I'm missing something. Thank you again.

@@dise6737 moreover, in Sunnism they don't split over an imam there are just 4 main schools of thought with slightly different interpretations and their practices are highly identical. While if you look at the Ismaili Nizari practices and compare them with the twelvers they are far from identical.

Why didn't you mention about the fiver shias, the Zaidis. Moreover, do Ismailis consider their Imams to infallible, like the twelvers?
Yes, they are infallibles not bcz of themselves, but Allah purified them. Quran is the best proof of that. The Imams are an examples like our beloved prophet (s) to all humanity, and the guidance is only for those who heed to this guidance. They will always be as guide for humanity from Allah to humankind untill the day of judgement.

isn't "Al-Mahdi" more of a title than a specific name? there are many "Al-mahdis" in the history of islam and specifically in the "Banu Hashim" who have always clung to the title to legitimize their claims to power. even the third Abbasid caliph, the son of Al-Mansur chose the regnal name of almadi, probably in order to allude to the fact that he was the "Imam Al-Huda" and Al-Mahdi, not necessarily in the messianic connotation of course.

محمد بن اسماعیل کے بعد فلسفہ اسماعیلیہ میں دورستر کا آغاز ہوتاہے۔اور امامت مستور یعنی پوشیدہ ہوتا ہے۔ امامت سلامیہ نامی مصر کے شہر میں نامعلوم جگہ پر مقیم ہوتا ہیں۔یوں اسی زمانہ مستور کو یعنی امامت کی پوشیدہ ہوجانے کو عقیدہ اسماعیلیہ میں ۔دور ستر کا زمانہ کہلاتا ہے۔اس زمانے میں ایک گروہ ساتویں امامت پر رک گیا ۔جنہیں سبعیہ اسماعیلی کہلایا گیا۔ان کا عقیدہ تھا کہ امام بھی سات ہوتے ہیں اس سے زیادہ امام نہیں ہونگے۔
سبعیہ یا ہفت امامی اسماعیلی، اسماعیل بن جعفر الصادق کو آخری امام جانتے ہیں اور ان کی غیبت کے قائل ہیں۔ یہان ایک بات یہ بھی ہیں کہ عام طور اسماعیلیوں کو بھی سبعیہ یا ہفت اسماعیلی اس فلسفیانہ نظریہ امامت پر بھی کہلایا جاتا ہیں کہ اسماعیلی امامت میں ہر ساتواں امام کے بعد نیا دور شروع ہوجاتی ہے۔یعنی چھ چھوٹے دور کے اماموں کے بعد اخری ساتویں امام بڑے دور کا امام ہوتا ہے اس کے بعد پھر سے چھوٹے دور شروع ہوجاتی ہیں۔اس طرح یہ سلسلہ ہر سات دوروں کے بعد گھومتا ہیں جیساکہ ہفتہ کے دنوں کا سلسلہ ہیں۔اس لئے بھی سبعیہ یا ہفت امامی موجودہ نزاری اسماعیلیوں کےلئے بھی کہلایا جاتا ہے۔اور نظریہ باطنی میں یہ سلسلے کو دور کبیر اور ادوار کبریا کہلاتا ہے۔موجودہ نزاری اونچاسویں امام سات بڑے دوروں کے اخری امام ہیں ۔یعنی 7×7 =49 : اور دور نبوت کے زمانے میں صامت یعنی خاموش ائمہ کی تعداد بھی اونچاس ہی تھا۔جن کا آخری امام بھی مولا علی علیہ السلام ہی تھا۔جو امام مقیم ابی طالب علیہ السلام کا جانیشن اور مستقر امام تھا۔جبکہ دور امامت کے پہلا ظہور امامت کے دور کا امام بھی مولا علی علیہ السلام ہی تھا۔جو آخری نبی محمدﷺ کا جانیشین اور وصی تھا۔۔
قارئین مخترم ۔اب چونکہ ہماری موضوع تاریخی حوالے سے ہیں اس لئے دوباره تاریخ اسماعیلیت کے زکر کو اگے بڑھاتا ہوا یہ بھی بتاتا ہوں کہ جب اسماعیلت میں دور ستر ۔ کے زمانے میں یعنی امامت جب ۔( مستور )۔۔ پوشیدہ ہوۓ تھے۔تو اس زمانے میں جو داعی تھے وہ کھبی کھبار خود کو امام کے لقب سے ظاہر کرتے تھے۔جبکہ حقیقی امام خود کو داعی کے لقب سے بھی شناخت کرتے تھے۔ اس وجہ سے عام طورپر مورخین نے دوستر کے زمانے کی آئمہ کو داعیوں کے نام سے بھی لکھے ہیں۔یادرہے کہ( فلسفہ نزاری امامت میں امام الوقت یک وقت ۔امام۔پیر ۔اور داعی بھی ہوسکتا ہے) اب دور ستر کے زمانے میں حقیقی امامت اسماعیلیوں کی کثیر تعداد میں موجود نزاری اسماعیلی عقیدے کے مطابق

We don't consider him the main imam you id*ot
Either the speaker doesn't know or he has deliberately chosen to omit the breaks in the table of genealogy of Ismaili Imams. There had been a break in the Ismaili Imams' lineage until Hassan bin Sabah brought a kid from somewhere and pronounced him Imam at Alamut. Next break came when Mongols killed all the progeny of Alauddin Khorshah the then Imam of Alamut, and then kicked him to death. After several centuries one person appears in Iran and claims himself to be descendant of Khorshah!!! His progeny was taken in to protection by the English and settled at Bombay. Please read Bernard Lewis book "The Assassins".
Completely inaccurate. There are no breaks in the Imamat lineage. Sure if you rely on the polemics and misinformation you can tell that story but per the primary sources the lineage never broke. The lineage from Nizar to Alamut Imams is documented in both Nizari and non-Ismaili sources. The descendants of Nizar survived and fled Egypt and multiple sources mention Sabbah’s role in granting them safety. Likewise non-Ismaili sources document the continuation of the Nizari line after Alamut as within twenty years the son of Imam Rukn al-Din retook Alamut and many descendants of that Imam survived after Alamut.

Hazrat ismail had not died… Imam Jafar Al Sadiq himself had appointed the oldest son; hazrat ismail in his own life time whilst he was alive then who gave random people authority to choose the new successor? This my friend was a confederacy played out by those who didn’t want ismailism to pursue forward. This is like if the Queen died but chose her next successor before dying but some how you change the next appointed heir to the throne.. it doesn’t work like that you see.

حضرت امام حسن علی شاہ علیہ السلام ١٢٣٣ھ بمطابق ١٨١٧ ء میں مسندِ امامت پر جلوہ افروز ہوۓ۔آپ علیہ السلام حسن الحسینی کے نام سے بھی یاد کئے جاتے ہیں۔اور آغاخان آوّل کے نام سے بھی آغاخان آپ کا لقب تھا۔۔
" آپ علیہ السلام کی ابتدائی زندگی کے متعلق تھوڑی سی معلومات ملتی ہیں۔مثلاً آپ کے پیدائش ١٢١٩ھ بمطابق ١٨٠٤ء میں محلات میں ہوئی تھی۔آپ کی والدہ کا نام بی بی سرکار تھی۔اور بہت ہی زہین اور دل کی مہربان خاتون تھیں ۔آپ محلات میں رہتی تھیں ۔جہان آپ علیہ السلام کے والد صاحب رہتے تھے۔جب حضرت امام خلیل اللہ علیہ السلام یزد میں رہنے گئے تھے۔تو بی بی سرکار محلات میں ٹھہری ہوئی تھیں ۔کیونکہ وہ آپنے فرزند حسن علیہ السلام کی تعلیم و تربیت کرتی تھیں ۔لیکن محلات میں بہت سے دشمن سیاسی اسباب کی بناء پر آپ کو تنگ کرتے تھے۔ اس لئے آپ قم شہر میں رہنے لگیں۔جہان حضرت امام حسن علی شاہ علیہ السلام کی تعلیم کا انتظام کیا گیا۔۔
" حضرت امام حسن علی شاہ علیہ السلام بچپن سے دینی کتابوں کا مطالعہ کرتے تھے۔اور صوفی شعراء کے اشعار بھی پڑھتے تھے۔اور اپنے لئے کئی کتابیں جمع کی تھیں ۔اور ملا علی محمد آپ کو تعلیم دیتے تھے۔محلات اور قم کے گورنر امام علیہ السلام کے خاندان سے عدوت رکھتے تھے۔کیونکہ امام علیہ السلام کو آپنے مریدوں کی طرف سے بہت عزت ملتی تھی۔جسے حاکم پسند نہیں کرتے تھے۔جب امام شاہ خلیل اللہ علیہ السلام کی شہادت کی خبر حضرت بی بی سرکار کو ہوئی تو وہ آپنے بیٹے حضرت امام حسن علی شاہ کو لے کر تہران میں فتح علی شاہ قاچار بادشاہ کے دربار میں گئیں۔اور حاکم کے ظلم اور امام علیہ السلام کی شہادت کے متعلق بادشاہ کو اگاہ کیا۔بادشاہ نے آپنے بیٹے ظلّ السلطان کو بلایا۔جو اُن علاقوں کا محافظ تھا۔ اور حضرت امام شاہ خلیل اللہ علیہ السلام کے قاتل کو دربار میں طلب کرنے کا حکم جاری کیا۔چنانچہ قاتل کو لایا گیا۔ اور ظلّ السلطان نے حاکم کو امام علیہ السلام کے خاندان سے اچھا سلوک کرنے کا حکم صادر کیا۔
" حضرت امام حسن علی شاہ علیہ السلام آپنی والدہ ماجدہ کے ساتھ کچھ عرصہ درالخلافے میں ٹھہرےجہان بادشاہ نے اصرار کرکے اپنی بیٹی سرور جہان کی شادی حضرت امام شاہ حسن علی شاہ علیہ السلام سے کروائی اور شاہی خزانے سے ایک لاکھ پندرہ ہزار روپیہ دیا۔ اور اس کے علاوہ جوہرات بھی دیئے اور حضرت امام علیہ السلام کو قم اور محلات کا گورنر بھی مقرر کیا۔ اس طرح فتح علی شاہ کے دورِ حکومت میں حضرت امام علیہ السلام نے محلات میں سکونت اختیار کی۔ اس وجہ سے آپ کو آقاخان محلاتی بھی کہتے تھے۔۔۔
آغا خان دوم
امام علی شاہ آغاخان اوّل ١٢٩٨ھ بمطابق ١٨٨١ء میں ممبئی میں پیدا ہوئے۔ آپ آغاخان ثانی کے نام سے بھی معروف تھے۔ آپ کی پیدائش محلات(ایران )میں ١٢٤٦ھ /١٨٣٠ء میں ہوئی تھی۔آپ کی والدہ ماجدہ کا نام ” شہزادی سرور جہان بیگم تھا “جو ایران کے بادشاہ فتح علی شاہ قاچار کی بیٹی تھی ۔

سر سلطان محمد شاہ آغا خان سوم بن آغا علی شاہ آغاخان دوئم٭2 نومبر 1877ء کو کراچی میں پیدا ہوۓ تھے۔آپ مسلمانوں کے اسماعیلی فرقے کے 48 ویں امام اور تحریک پاکستان کے عظیم رہنماتھے۔ آپ نے تقریباً ستر سال امامت کی ہے جو اسماعیلی اماموں میں کسی بھی امام کی امامت سے طولانی امامت ہے۔

مستعلیہ طیبیہ وہ ہیں جو طیب ابوالقاسم کو اپنا آخری امام جانتے ہیں اور ان کی غیبت کے قائل ہیں۔ اور ان کے نائبین داعی مطلق کہلاتے ہیں۔ ان کو بوہرہ جماعت بھی کہتے ہیں۔ آج کل تمام مستعلیہ، مستعلیہ طیبیہ یا بوہرہ ہی ہیں۔ یہ یمن اور بھارت میں رہائش پزیر ہیں۔
تمام بوہروں کے 26 داعی مطلق مشترکہ ہیں۔ جن کو سب مانتے ہیں۔ بعد میں ان کا داعی مطلق میں اختلاف ہو گیا تو یمن میں ان کو سلیمانی بوہرہ کہا جاتا ہے۔ اور بھارت میں داؤدی بوہرہ کہا جاتا ہے۔ اور جو سنی ہو گئے وہ صغیری بوہرہ کہلاتے ہیں۔
داؤدی بوہرہ کے داعی مطلق
داؤدی بوہرہ کے ایک بہت چھوٹے گروہ علوی بوہرہ کو 1980 ء سے ضیاء الدین صاحب بطور 44 ویں داعی مطلق گجرات کے علاقہ برودہ میں چلا رہے ہیں۔ داؤدی بوہرہ کے 29 ویں داعی مطلق کے انتخاب پر علی بن ابراہیم کے اختلاف پر اس گروہ کو علوی بوہرہ کہا جاتا ہے۔

How Shia's hold divinity to the bloodline is in its very nature what the arabs used to hold on to in the days of Jahiliyah(Ignorance). The lineage stops with the Prophet Muhammad(P.B.U.H) as the last prophet. Just because you are descendent of his bloodline does not make you any greater. Rather the book of Allah is clear “Each man shall reap the fruits of his own deeds, and no one shall bear the burden of another.” [Al-Anaam 6:164]
Shia believes that Imams come to explain and implement the law of the holy Quran. If anybody considers himself as an imam and his characters and actions are against the Quran then consider him. Hi is not Imam. Such as Imam Jaffar Sadiq a.s says If you see any quote or narration that reffers to us and that cite have against the law of the Quran then consider that the narration is wrong and through it in Garbage. So, Imams means the practical of the Holy Quran.
