There were Ukainian Kozaks. They fought the Poles and the Muscovites (Russians).

@@Rottensparrow not sure what you are talking about but Kozaks were Ukrainian, the language they spoke in, songs, and official documents were all Ukrainian. They lived independently in their Sich though. They lived by war and raiding, so they often took jobs for money all across Europe.

does anyone know where to buy a saber as curved as theirs? I never can find ones quite that good.
Cold Steel sells a sharp affordable version under the name "shamshir"... The sabers of Eastern Europe are based on, or in many cases were, from the ottoman empire (bought or captured from there)
So is this where they got the idea for Dothraki in Game of Thrones?

Depends on where you leave. You see, there is a sword shop in Ukraine but you will have troubles on border customs, because it's kinda weapon you know. In your country there might be some smith-crafter and you can give him an order. But quality depends on his previous experience. Better find some real fan of eastern swords.

Have these people never heard of Kozaks? Scots? Basques? Dancing with knives isn’t new. Many cultures dance with swords, knives and other weapons.
Sounds nice, but in fact the Poles with their polish sabers were the best swordsmen and fencers in Europe.
They've always defeated Kossacks or Russians in melee combat.
And that’s why they had guns too.

Очень интересно как соотносится образование "Гетьманщины" с вашим утверждением? Если Речь Посполитая всегда побеждала, как могло на случайно (по воле исторического случая) на отошедших к Речи Посполитой территориях образоваться государственное образование со своим государственным аппаратом (надеюсь Вы не станете утверждать, что после 1648-го года украинских Гетьманов и всю казацкую старшину утверждали на сейме в Варшаве?))))
@@user-oe4be4wr1b Pliz, the Commonwealth in XVII c. suffered from a constant lack of army, due to the democratic political system it always had THE SMALLEST armed forces in Europe - and constantly several fronts, Swedish, Prussian, Russian, Turkish, Tatar and finally the Cossack one in addition.
Formally it was supposed to be "18,000 portions" for soldiers in Poland and Lithuania together, but every officer took several portions, so in practice the standing army was only... several thousand men - for a huge area and many enemies. F.e. in the Battle of Kłuszyn, after which they captured Moscow and almost conquer Russia, the Polish army was 7 times smaller than the Russian-Swedish one. 7 times !!!
In the campanies you mentioned there also was a gigantic numerical superiority of the enemy + stupidity of aged hetmans, who still thought it's the XVI c. and "will disperse the uprising with whips" + betrayal of Cossack units. When once Poland gathered a bit more standing army (half of it was still "pospolite ruszenie") at Beresteczko - in the open battle the Cossacks and Tatars had no chance.
But after Beresteczko the army vanished due to lack of money.
In the war crime of Batoh, where the POWs were murdered - died the MOST of the Polish soldiers of that time. There was simply no more, and the Swedish invasion known as the "Deluge" soon followed and destroyed the remnants. The reconstruction of the armed forces took many years and only resulted in the war with Russia and at Vienna.
Cossack (Kozak) simply means a warrior clan of ethnic Russians of Ukraine nationality living in villages in and around Kyiv. some Cossack villages are also in Russia, where the same ancient swordsmanship are taught. Present day Cossack villages are far from Kyiv. Their self discipline and former swordamanship skills was previously passed down from farther to son from the middle ages an up until 1783. Their skills self discipline ended when Queen Catherine liberated Kyiv and Cossacks and Ukrainians. Present day Cossacks in cities of Ukraine have no warrior skills. Many Cossack villages mostly in Ukraine still teach their young self discipline and swordsmanship skills, inly in remote cossack villages.
