    Thanks for the video! A reclining sofa I have broke during a move and the right side of it is sagging in and one of the joints scrapes on the ground there. Would you know of a good place to order a new mechanism? Or would it be better to search for a cheap used recliner I can scrap the mechanism out of?

    • @the323vlog4
      @the323vlog4  3 года назад

      That is a possibility, but there are so many different models and styles, it is hard to get the exact one. Not impossible though. Where are usually start is with the store where It was purchased from. Bigger companies like Rooms To Go or Ashley‘s usually have the ability to part order mechanisms, and it’s a great way to ensure it’s the exact one that you need.You might even have some luck giving the mechanism a tap with a small two or 3 pound hammer

    I have a base very much the same. It has a worn out broken pivot point fastener. The two chair's I have, has been used a lot but have been covered since day one, and still look brand new, so I hate to spend to replace them. The steel fastener looks exactly like the one's on the base in your video. I believe it is some kind of steel type rivet, fitting into a small hole on one arm, and a larger hole on the other.
    My question is, do I need to try and replace this with a high speed steel bolt/washer/nuts, or is their a special part I can buy and where to buy it? Thank you.

    • @the323vlog4
      @the323vlog4  4 года назад

      I personally haven’t seen any parts specifically sold for this in my eight years of doing it. I think you’re on the right track as to finding the high speed bolt/nut/washers for replacement. That’s what I have used in the last and they seem to hold up great.

  • @stylerod
    @stylerod 4 года назад +1

    Thanks for the video. Wonder if you have seen one of these frames that just gets sloppy. The couch and side that is used most often is difficult to open and close when someone is sitting on it. I found that the outside telescoping mechanism is hitting the bottom bar that runs across the floor. You can see that whole side is drooping to the outside. When I compare that reclining mechanism to the other couch that doesn't get used as often it is VERY loose. But I don't find any bolts or connections that are loose when I turn it upside down. Do these just get sloppy over time and use?

    • @the323vlog4
      @the323vlog4  4 года назад +1

      Yes! That is definitely what I see . The riveted joints become very loose over time and the mechanism started leaning towards the arms. What I’ve done in the past that sometimes alleviates the rubbing is adding a few washers between the mechanism frame and threaded leg that screws into the mechanism frame. That gives it an extra 1/4” sometimes which is all is needed to prevent it from rubbing...unless it’s drastic

    Question - we have an older Flexsteel recliner, which fits our needs perfectly. However the plastic roller which is part of the manual recliner mechanism has broken and won't allow the chair to recline smoothly, {you have to get out of the chair, lift up the front, and pull out the footrest to get it to recline}. I have contacted Flexsteel and have been informed that I would have to replace the whole recliner mechanism, however the chair is too old and the part is no longer available. • @the323vlog4
      @the323vlog4  3 года назад +1

      Great question. There are a few places where screws and bolts can be tightened. If you look at the mechanism, there are the scissor springs on the left and right and those are connected by a handful of metal tubes usually. I would start hh tightening all of those connections(usually 4 bolts per tube). Then, I would check where your mechanism connects to the wooden seat frame. There are typically 6 or less screws/bolts on each side . The scissor spring itself usually has around a dozen riveted joints that are not able to be tightened. There is a typical amount of play in those joints. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, I would recommend checking with the store of purchase to see if they’re able to part order a new mechanism for you.

    • @the323vlog4

      In my experience, That is usually an indicator that the foot rest is rubbing and stuck on the arm when trying to open. Hello. I have a manual recliner sofa. My first problem was not being able to open the foot rest. I took the handle off and saw that cable was broken. I fix that but now l can’t get the recliner to close. It pops open every time l try to shut it. I hear that it is not locking. Do you have a video for this problem?

      I do not have a video of that issue yet. I’d check with lever activator that responds on the mechanism when pull g the handle and make sure it’s connected properly.

    I’ve got a recliner in a sofa that had a rivet break on one of the arms that has a spring. Ever had to replace a rivet or been able to fix with a small bolt? Great video.

      Thanks! Yeah, I’ve had success using bolts (make sure it’s not too long) and washers in between moving parts(lubrication helps)

      I was just able to slip a bolt and locking nut in and now it’s working! I’m getting a new couch to replace this 12 year old one, but this repair will get me by until the new one arrives.

    I love this video. I am having problems with my handle barley moving. I do not see a cable at all. The handle barley moves the metal bar attachment before the mechanism catches on a flat bar that connects to the mechanism. I wish I could send you a picture.

    I replaced the handle but I can’t get the footrest to lock into the closed position. I think that because the handle was broken someone pulled the footrest out manually and broke something. Do you have any advice?

    • @the323vlog4
      @the323vlog4  8 месяцев назад +1

      In would check the lever activator on the mechanism. It’s the piece the cable ties into that attached to the mechanism

    I have a recliner with exact the same mechanism. It is very hard to recline. Does it have any adjustment to make it easier to recline? Thank you.

    • @the323vlog4
      @the323vlog4  4 года назад

      Carlos Alvarez not on this one. What I usually do is lubricate all of the riveted joints with a product called Mohawk ez slip. Sometimes the mfr mounts the footrest too close to the arms and that can create rubbing issues and make it hard to open.

      If it’s new, you may check with store of purchase and see if they have a technician who can evaluate it in person. the recliner repair guy has a video on this subject, but one of the most common things I see is the frame of the arms blocking the footrest from too much padding.
