Today's video is a look inside my main mic box. I don't keep every last mic I own in the same case, but I do keep the main mics I use at every gig in the same case... and this is that case. I also keep some DI's in the workbox, so there are always plenty of DI's around for any surprises that might pop up on gig day. Beyond that, as mentioned in this video, I have another case that is more dedicated to DI's which is where the "rider DI's" live, and also where mics that don't necessarily fit in mic holes live. Large diaphragm mics, B98 mics, a Shure SM91, a second B52, a couple of AKG D112 mics, etc... But that case only goes to gigs where I know I need some of that stuff via tech riders and show advances. Probably need to do a video on that case one of these days too... ;) As always, likes and subscribes appreciated. Leave any comments or questions here. I actually replace them at a certain point... Sometimes I will take them off and clean them if it's obvious they can be cleaned. I have a box of grills and some of these are about to be replaced. This video and a bit of that work is coinciding. The mic case is the EWI mic case. I have that EWI case, and one that is identical except it's not got the foam with holes. It has compartments and a tray. That's the one that gets the rider DI's and mics that don't really fit in holes like the large diaphragm mics.
It's really hard to say. So many variables. And what might be perfect for one situation, not nearly as good for another. And one's person's perfect could be another person's "meh". The truth is, any decent mic, with a well-tuned and played kick can sound OK. You might have to work a little harder to get there though. Using two mics lends some flexibility because the inside mic can do take some of the load away from the outside mic to do both the boom and the click. So, the B52 could be fine live or in the studio... Or something else entirely can work. Like an EV RE20. Sweetwater did a kick mic demo with several mics. Sry, but I can't find any information that the beyer M88 is a ribbon mic! It's a dynamic microphone. However...do you have any ribbon mics that you use live? Cause Ribbons can easily get destroyed especially live on stage.
Heh... You're right. Now I can be less careful with it! I always treated it more carefully because I worried about it more than other mics. I'm going to edit out the 'ribbon' blurb in the video.

I agree that the beta 57 is extremely versatile. Great kit & video!
I just unpacked 3 new ones and put them in the mic case today. :)
Excellent information! I'm really enjoying your videos.
Thanks!
Beta91a for the win 🤜🤜🤜 great sound even on its own
I also have one of the old, original SM91's... It also works great by itself.
Thanks Alan! Good info as always. Hey so, which mic case is that? Also, do you ever wash your SM58 mic grills?

@@AlanHamiltonAudio Awesome. Thanks for the reply man!
Nice
In studio settings, what mic would you suggest for a kick out mic?

Hi Al. 🙋🏻♀️
Hello Cindy!
Hi Al!
Hello Hunter!
What case are you using for your DIs?
I'm using this case:
www.audiopile.net/M040-TRAY
ahhhh.. microphones and a small bag of weed from 1987?
LOL... No, nothing like that in there...
