- Fuels specialists manage every aspect of the refueling of every aircraft on the flight line. More than handling jet fuel, these professionals are also responsible for operating the vehicles, equipment and storage facilities that are essential to the refueling operation while also ensuring the compliance of all safety regulations while handling these volatile liquids. www.airforce.c...
I was in Fuels, active duty and ANG, Desert Storm vet. I fueled every type of aircraft imaginable from every branch of the US military, allied aircraft, AF1, you name it. The actual job can be fun, but really boring in between fueling runs. When dispatch calls your name, move quick, work safe. Keep a good attitude, show initiative, you're a flightline hero. Best job ever!
Very easy too
ANG will give you the reigns to the whole shabang. AD is a dud when it comes to POL.
@@Jameski07 elaborate more
@@curryglocc4788 in AD you’re purposed to one area usually where supervision needs a body and not necessarily where you’ll succeed the most. You’ll stay in that lane for longer than you should unless you’re a real go getter. I wasn’t, I needed other areas of POL to be forced on me to really learn it. When I left AD after my 6yr term was up I went to the guard side. In the guard, you don’t have much of a choice but to learn all aspects of the career field and it will be thrust upon you to learn it all as the guard works with a much smaller shop but with the same roles and responsibilities as a much larger manned AD element would have. I learned more about the career field in a couple of years than I ever would have in AD. Lab, accounting, storage, receiving. You name it, all of it because you have to know it. When you deploy as a guardsman it will become readily apparent what the difference is between you and someone who’s only ever been AD. You’re more laid back and that has a lot to do with you having a good grasp of most aspects of the career field. Shops just run better when you know how most functions work and what actions are needed to have mission success.
Obviously, we don’t know the whole story, but that is hilarious how after A1C Courtland tells his recruiter about his Chemistry degree, the recruiter just recommends him Fuels lol. He could've steered him in a better direction (i.e at least let him know about OTS?), but nah, "I have to fill the quota man". OMG, anyway, thank you for your service A1C Courtland, you have a bright future ahead of you anyway. I'm sure of it.
Depends on the ASVAB score...
Sad to see recruiters are still doing this. Mine didnthe same thing to me. Told him i wanted to be a pilot and he asked what degree i was looking at. I did and he told.me inwould need something that applies to aeronautics. Later found out that was total BS, but loved doimg what i was doing. Did 30 years amd retired as an E-9.
So you don’t need a degree to become a pilot?
@theechosenone4471 You need a bachelor's degree. My recruiter lied to me about what my major was. Any 4 year degree will do. If you want to fly helicopters in the Army I believe it is still an associates degree.
Thank you for your service mr.carson
I went to high school with Carson. He was the class clown who was so brilliant. I’m so proud of you Carson! 🎉More favor & grace!
I remember being told by my recruiter that I would be working in fuel cell...maintenance on aircraft. The first day at tech school to walk in and see a fuel truck painting on the wall I learned...welcome to POL. Not what I wanted, but I am thankful for the years in it. Did I hear this airman say 4 hours to fill a C-17? I don't think so...lol!

Try 4 hours to fuel a C-135 with Av/ gas, with one truck 5k gls that’s about right 😂, back in the 60’s high speed fuel pit where on a drawing board some where, now AC Carriers was a different story. 😂
Keep it up!
Pretty important job and chemistry knowledge is essential for such a job !
TOO TRUE! YOU DEFINITLY KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT IRON MAN!
An amazing young
man, wonderful!!!!
Thanks!!!❤️🎉🎉🎉🎉
What are the work hours for this job ?
Because I want to know if I have time to work on a bachelors degree while active duty in this job
Yes...always time off duty...if you really want it, you can do it.
@@JesusIsWayTruthandLife what’s the hours
Twelve on, twelve off, if you're on alert, or an exercise. 😊😊😅😅😂😂
I need to know where to buy that sunglasses
In my time, only pilots could wear sunglasses.
The only cringe thing about this video is the comments , you guys do know it's not only possible but there's a higher chance of him being selected for OTS if one enlists first. Not only that but in each branch the enlisted men respect officers that were prior enlisted.
During OTS, my instructor stated that no prior service person should be an officer. E-5 in 3 years, top 5% of all OTS recruits and in his mind I shouldn't be taking up space.
Fuelers are under paided and very physical work.. and planes are back to back
@Nino Brown
I wish / not in my job.. solo man job.. up a ladder at nyc airport.. they push us to 15 flights per shift..
@@fcm2790 are the hours good
@@curryglocc4788
Depends on the airport.. nyc .. hours are 4am-1pm / or 1-10pm.. not bad and alot OT all time… Actually after 4 months my body got used to it..
@@fcm2790 9 hour shifts not bad. Do you have weekends off? Does this particular AFSC PCS frequently?
@@curryglocc4788
No weekends on by seniority / this is for non military airports im referring to.. normal airports jfk lga..
No disrespect intended to this honorable young man but his recruiter did him dirty to recommend he be a gas station jockey ! Fcuk that !
wait wha? You got degree why didn't you go Officer?
lol exactly what i said he could be paid double lmao
his recruiter played him
Exactly my thoughts.
Probably because of the responsibility tied with being an officer
Officer slots are dictated by the needs of the Air Force at that time. If there wasn't a job he liked, he would've decided not to go the O route. Going the enlisted route still guarantees educational benefits, health insurance, the chance to travel the world, and other potential career opportunities if one doesn't see the Air Force in their retirement plan. He's older than the typical enlistee and most likely has weighed his options and has a plan. Fly, fight, win
Wait so these guys do more than drive the truck to my jet?
😂😂
Yes, we also drive it away from your jet🤣
LOL! Heard that from a few pilots before.
POL-painting, odd-jobs, landscaping.
I have this job! I’ve been trying to look online but can’t really find a straight or clear answer but what Job titles or company’s is this setting me up for once I get out of the Airforce after hopefully serving 20 years and after that go into Civilian life?
If you don't want to work at an airport or oil company..use your VA and go back to school or a trade school. Lots of options.
Aww, you kids have it easy! Back in my day, we had the ol' R-5's and diesel R-9's in school bus yellow. Ronald Reagan was our C-in C. We were called 631x0's back then, too.
CC=33, 'air'plane that's all you need! @1.14 listen closely to what he says and next time you go to a swimming pool keep that figure in mind!!!
what?
Field uniform same as Pakistan Air Force
Enough with the OTS talk. That position isn’t for everyone. Not everyone wants to be a leader. He seems to enjoy his career so that’s all that matters. Yes the officer route is the best option if you have a degree but just like with any career, you have to see yourself in that role.
Wait. Lol but your pol
