  • Apologies for all the wind noise and terrible editing! And all the incorrect information... Watch at your own risk of boredom and possible loss of sanity.
The Slightly Shambolic Shuffles are back! In this longest video ever, we visit the 50th Birthday of the Ford Capri Celebrations at the Brooklands Museum near Weybridge in Surrey, which was organised by the Surrey Capri Club. Over 250 Capris were rumoured to have been present, and I saw everything from an early 1969 Mark I to a number of Capri 280 Brooklands models registered in late 1987. The quality and variety of cars on show was absolutely outstanding.
Get ready for a quest to find the perfect Professionals style Capri, broken concrete surfaces, lots of lovely Tickford Capris, pedantic obsessions with identifying cars with the correct wheels, a very, very nice end of the line Capri 2.0 Laser (which may be featuring in future videos), lots of references to Ford Granadas, a surprising number of V8s engines, masses of ignorance and a general deterioration in camerawork as I get more and more excited... Nothing untoward, then!

Great to see these classic cars again . My late grandad had one of what must been the very first mk1. Basic 1300 ‘s in a brown colour. As kids at the time we thought it was so fast and sporty even though he rarely exceeded 30 miles an hour god bless him 😊 20 years later I became the owner of a 2.8 I. . It’s incredible that Ford designed a car that could accommodate such a big range of engines. Looking at the prices now I wish I had kept mine as it would be worth a fortune now .

Yes, it was an amazing event, I was privileged to have been there! Mark I Capris are very rare, but I did see some lovely ones, even 1300s like your grandfather's. The most common type seemed to be the 2.8 Injections like yours, which is not surprising, as they are great! Prices have gone up a bit recently, haven't they?

Hi graham , that WGO937W 3.0s was mine,I put those wheels and spoilers on it in the mid 90s .
when I bought it in 1994 it had only about 20,000 miles on it, it was mint condition but the paint had gone anodised and flat so I bare metal sprayed it, fitted full jansspeeds ,I sourced the wider Xpack alloys that’s on it and spoilers direct from a Ford agent , I was very lucky because they had been discontinued for sometime ,, I did intend keeping it as a weekend fun car , but being a motor trader, I thought I would try my luck and advertise it for double of what I paid for /spent on it,sold it in the back of the fast ford Magazine .
I recently put a photograph on the Capri Club group on Facebook of it .
Would love one day to have a look at it if you ever at a show . 👍🏼

Thankyou so much for uploading, as a former Capri owner for 22 years it brought back so many memories. The MK 1 3.0 GTs at 7.40 and 14.25 e.t.c are actually RS 3.1s of which only 248 were made so it was really good to see so many there. By the way your knowledge of the Capri is actually very good, better than most of my Rover knowledge. Thanks once again Sir.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  5 лет назад

Thanks Andy! Yes those RS 3100s were actually badged as 3000 GTs as well, which made it really, really confusing for me. As you say, very rare and desirable cars. Can you remind me which Capri that you had? I think you may have told me, but I have forgotten! Jason's beautiful 1987 (at least it was registered that year) grey 2.0 Laser should be appearing on the channel at some point next year in a full review, and I am really looking forward to it...

I worked for Broadspeed from 1970-75 building race and road cars. We built about 30 or so turbo capris and I remember building the bronze Broadspeed Turbo Bullit back in early 1972. Amongst others there were two that were exported to Spain for exhibit at the Barcelona Motor Show by Giuseppe Riesi in 1973. One was red the other blue. The blue one was then bought by Rafael Barrios. He had it converted to left hand drive. It eventually found its way back to the UK some years later.

    I want a rust free Capri in 2022 !
Thanks mate, I got here through your page and input. I love Capris. Had a 1.6L S plate for 6 years , sold when I went abroad. I had modified it, as you did in the day, buy a small engine cheap and customize as we used to say. Was a 2.0S Turbo when I finished. I had small money available as a miner and took time. Was not the best destination , but I was young and cash strapped. Since I've had a few cars, Porsche etc but never loved a car more than my original Capri.
The fact that you walk around and show all there, as if we were there ! I am in the USA so missed this ! Brilliant
2022, Houston Texas, I want to buy one, no rust and elevate it to a Mustang beater ! The Capri was so more beautiful than any Mustang (!) do you agree ?
I want to build a 2023 Capri that Ford Should have built !
Who can sell me a good MkII ?

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  2 года назад

Yes, they should have built a proper follow up to the Capri, and they tried several times with the Probe and the Cougar, but it never quite worked for them. At the time I made this, I didn't know how to edit, and so this was one massive file, hence why it feels like being there, since it was very much as it came...
The Capri IIs were sold in America until 1978 from what I remember, but they aren't exactly common anywhere any more!

  • @johnnichols9056

As a big fan in the States it was beautiful to see! Severally underappreciated over here. I've owned an early Mk1 2.0, a late Mk1 2.8 both of which I autocrossed, a '76 2.8 Giha and finally a '76 2.8 which I autocrossed. The last one was lowered a rear sway bar added to reduce understeer and the front bar located to eliminate slippage. Barells of fun, miss them all and always a rare sight here. Wished for an X pack to this day.

Since this time, my knowledge of Capris and the general presentation of the channel has been improved. I do know what a John Player Special Capri is, it had been a long day by the time I finished recording. I am surprised so many people are still watching this video, to be honest....

The Blue LS. Those Alloys are Mkv Cortina Alloys Never used on any capri.
The LS came on steel deep dished Wheels.
Those Square hole alloys were Cortina Ghia ONLY. a larger similar version was used on the Last Mk2 Granada.
The Capri LS was a budget version to drop the price to shift more metal.
A similar version of the Square hole Alloys was used on the Fiesta Ghia Mk1.
They Made a Capri 2.3, using the cologne 2.3 V6 from the Cortina / Granada. This engine was for overseas markets ONLY and LHD.
This engine would have made the Perfect Capri.

The owner is a huge Ford fan and was really informative about all these lovely old cars and the different wheels. It's really hard to find a Capri 1.6 LS on the original wheels and yes, I did get that wrong. The Cortina Ghia wheels do look good, though! The Granada Ghia/TRX wheels are also similar, but not the same. The Belgian 2.3 S I filmed in the video was a really nice surprise to see, but we didn't get it over here, sadly, as you say. Got a full walkaround of a 1987 (although it was manufactured in 1986) Capri 280 Brooklands coming up on my channel soon, and I also have two podcasts on the cars of The Professionals which went up this week. Consul Capri was a 1.5. I think that the Green car with the boot spoiler, black bonnet and corner bumpers was the wonderful RS 3100. A couple of very rare American Market Capris which look like Mk1 Facelifts with twin headlamps and Amber marker lights on the sides for Federal Legislation. They are recognisable by the lettering on the bonnet reading simply CAPRI because they were imported German built cars with a 2.6 litre Cologne V6 and sold through Lincoln/Mercury Dealers.

Hi great video I remember seeing you on the day walking round filming the cars and seeing you chatting to Jason and some of the other members of our group. Sorry I didn't come over and say hello but there was a lot of Capris and people to see. Thanks for filming my 1.6 Laser at 38:43 one of a few 1.6 Lasers there. I see you really liked the colour of Jason's beautiful 2.0 Laser its mercury grey which only the last Lasers off the production line were painted in. I'm also a huge fan of the professionals like yourself. Unfortunately the glacier blue 1.6 LS you said it was great it has its original wheels on aren't they're alloys off a mk5 cortina Ghia, it should have steel wheels originally. It was a fantastic day and the turn out was incredible nearly 300 Capris were there to celebrate a true iconic motoring legends 50th anniversary.

Thanks Daniel! Yes, it was an absolute pleasure to be there, and to see so many cars at the Brooklands Museum. It was a bit crazy in terms of the parking situation, I must say... Sorry that I didn't get to say hello either, it was quite an intense day, as you say! Jason's Capri 2.0 Laser is pencilled in for a full review on my channel at some point next year, and it was a pleasure to meet him (and the car) in person and also to see other fine specimens there such as yours. A teacher when I was at prep school in 1992 had a Capri 1.6 LS. Can't remember what wheels his had, hence getting that wrong. Were there actually any 1.6 LS models there with the correct wheels? Clearly, I am not a Capri expert! The Cortina 80 Ghia wheels always remind me of the Mk2 Granada Ghia/TRX wheels, although they are clearly not the same. If you like The Professionals, then I have two podcasts on The Cars Of The Professionals to be released on the channel next week! Thanks again.

@@lloydvehicleconsulting you could say that. Part of my dream is to be able to look at the backseat and see own 2 and 4 year old back there looking back at me just as I did looking at my dad. His capris were the center of my life. I remember polishing his wheels of his 3ltr gxl in the garden and breaking down due to running out of fuel, going to all the capri club shows it's all so engrained in my childhood. Some might say its nostalgia but for me it's far more its definatly emotional. My parents split when I was 7 the best years of my life they were. From then it went downhill we stopped going to shows it was never the same. Dad had his big accident when I was 8 or 9 my life was not fun anymore. I even shed many tears everytime I saw the poor car on dads drive the car being a wreck I remember telling the car when I visited my father how much I loved it, how much it meant to me and how much I'll remember the car. The car was well known in the show scene in its day along with some others friends of my dads included a red 3.0 xpack with custom airbrushing over the bonnet of a scantily clad lady and a wizard casting spells down the side I bet dom Coleman would easily remember that if he was a part of the scene way back in 90s.
The car sits very heavy on my heart so much so that if you have ever seen Christine the movie the way the 58 plymouth fury had over Arnie the same could be said about my dads last capri. I have a similar connection to his 73 gxl however I was about 4 so it maybe didnt have a much of an impact I still remember it though I have a photo of that with me stood beside it that's the one he broke down in i still remember the exact spot it was lol
Can I just say Thankyou so much for listening to my story there is much more I could probably say but I've wrote enough thankyou. I would just like to say that if I one day have a chance to spend just one full day or weekend with one to show my wife and kids just how amazing the car you always promised yourself makes me feel that would be the only thing I would ever ask for if at any time my days become numbered that would be the perfect end for me

No problem at all, Mike! Yes, the Mark III Capri does have a similar braking system to the Mark IV/V Cortina, so that would make sense that you can put the Cortina Ghia wheels on it. I actually released a review of a 1982 Capri 2.8 Injection on the channel last week if you are interested...

Wow, that's a lot of Capris. Prices seem to be on the rise at the moment, the 2.8 Injection I drove is worth around £12-15,000. I am hoping that I will be able to review a Capri 2.0 Laser at some point as well, as a viewer has very kindly offered one to me.
