    Awesome, will be watching your journey. Please show as much scenery possible and things you see along the way. Wonder why you don't have a backpacking stove? Instant rice, noodles, beans etc. Stay safe and healthy!

      Thought I could get away with just eating gas station food, but I was wrong. Should of brought a stove. This was my first bikepacking trip so it defiantly was a learning experience. Thanks for joining me on my adventure!

    Back in the day, I rode the GDMBR and used my regular touring setup- mtn bike, front and rear panniers and slick road tires. If you're considering this trip, I'd recommend starting in Jasper so you can include the Icefields parkway (a mostly road ride) as well. It is a beautiful start to the actual off-road route. The Canadian Rockies are spectacular.

    The cheapest place in Banff is the Hostelling International Alpine Centre. I stayed one night last September on my 12 day cycling trip and it was one of the best hostels I've ever been to. I bought a YHA lifetime membership back in 1986 and have stayed at hostels in at least 15 countries.

    • @jonnyeverett

      I recommend the snow peak giga power stove with the built in igniter. Used it on a biking trip in 2014 and it was the best stove I've ever owned. Lost mine and will repurchase.

    • @jonnyeverett
      @jonnyeverett  12 дней назад +1

      Trek 1120. 29ers. I didn't go tubeless, but defiantly should of. A few episodes from now you will see my regret in not going tubeless.

      @ ok, I just started cycling again after 44 years off , two months ago. Everything is so different now than 1980 and before. Yes, tubeless I think is way better. Very cool vids. I think you had a fantastic attitude. Much respect

      @@MetalTeamster A lot of people carry a spare TPU (thinner and lighter) tube while going tubeless. That will be my go to methodology as a gravel bike commuter this year. I want to do this trail in the future. Looks amazing!!

      @@samueljlarson I cycle with the owner of the shop I bought my bike from, and he suggested carrying spare tube, tire lever and a dynaplug, which I do. Great way to cover all bases

    I am interested in why you chose the shoes you are wearing on this bike journey? Looks like sandals. The weather looks like you get cold feet. How did they work out?

    • @jonnyeverett
      @jonnyeverett  13 дней назад +1

      Those sandals were made for outdoor activity. They are called Bedrock Sandals. They held up pretty well. I've also sometimes use them to go hiking. I did carry a pair of shoes with me, but I just got used to the sandals so just stuck with them. I also carried a pair of socks that were made for these sandals and wore them when it got cold. I had a lot people question my shoe choice along the way, but it worked out for me.

    Good luck on your journey. If you're wondering why you're so tired going up hills, I'd look at the food you're eating on the trail. Eating junk food just doesn't cut it. Carbs, fat, protein and electrolytes and lots of water.
