  • Destiny 2's Lore and Story from the Episodes is getting a revamp. Changes coming to The Revenant and Heresy Episodes later in the year are going to help to change up the way that the story content of each act is delivered to us. We're also getting more narrative content in Act 2 of Echoes & we'll be exploring the secrets of the Conductor, Nessus and Saint more in this act.

Not that it justifies bad results, but seeing passionate and caring devs softens what would otherwise be a terrible release of something. Like I know they're trying their best and good God do I fuck up too sometimes.
On the positive side seeing positive and responsive devs release amazing content just fucking fuels a strong community bond and love for the game. Makes you feel a part of it.
It's the bad actors and outspoken ones that make being open and responsive tough, but I do think it goes such a long way with the non-toxic people.

If the other planets of Sol return, I hope we see them changed as well. I'd quit Destiny 2 years ago after the Red War, and never really explored Mercury or Mars. In the event Venus isn't it, I have a few other options that would work for Vex related stories, but honestly I am in agreement the most likely is Venus.
    - The Pyramidion. Sure its on IO, but I remember hearing that the internal structure is in its own space, and it was just the entry on IO. There should be another entry point on Mars. Unlikely though because Avalon likely covers everything relating to it
    - The Black Garden. That said, we've returned to it so much I don't know if we should consider this a return.
    - The Leviathan - It ate the previous planetary core of Nessus, so we might return there to investigate the remains of Argos, for example. Not to mention the excessive amount of Vex that Calus stored in the menagerie. Arguably the biggest stretch of the 3 alternate locations.

Infinitely prefer the "Get the story in one big chunk each Act" approach, not just conceptually but because it means there's less mandatory filler. The story gets to be arranged into its three story beats for the season/episode, but without the filler weeks of "We just had a story beat, we're a month out from the next story beat, so here, have... one conversation and one radio message." So many weeks in seasonal stories just felt like the narrative equivalent of styrofoam packing peanuts, and I'd genuinely rather have nothing happening than just *that.*

Add the Lucent Hive Architecture and Enemies to the Cosmodrome and Moon. Actually add the Shadow Legion Enemies and Architecture to the European Dead Zone. Add the Fallen Pirate Architecture to Europa and the Cosmodrome. Actually add the new beautiful terraformed Nessus flora and architecture to Nessus. Hell, add the Dread to Neomuna! So it’s not just the Tormentors you find of the Dread species there.
This way, even if new players don’t get to experience those old seasons, they can see the enemy location changes and additional architecture caused by the seasons and episodes. A visual story and effects, making the Seasons actually feel like something that happened in history. Please!!

We need to get our money's worth (lorewise), so it feels like if this season is a story about Maya Sundaresh trying something out with the vex and playing with Saint's mind a little, before we blow her to bits- what's it worth? Visiting the Infinite Forest feels like a dead end, too, but there can be dozens of things the Vex are cooking up in there with significant lore relevance and Saint's connection to it might draw us there. Going to Venus? For what? A tour? Nothing there. The Black Garden? That might be it. We could get some massive bombshells there about the nature of the universe AND let's not forget the Ishtar collective logo we found there in the Season of the Wish. That is probably where we are going! Take care, Byf.

    • @broderickfoster2107
      @broderickfoster2107 19 дней назад

If I had to guess it will likely be a parallel of Saint’s identity crisis going back into the Infinite Forest for Maya (assuming she is actually the Conductor) looking for Chioma. I think we’ll see an actual played out version of the Veil Containment logs basically of Maya going power and control crazy and Chioma being afraid of her. So I imagine Maya will have an obsession with finding “her” Chioma in the Infinite Forest being so far gone that she can’t accept that Chioma can’t accept the changes Maya undergoes.
We could also see a sort of House of Wolves / Sundial 2.0 incident where The Conductor tried to change the past and make it so that with the Echo the vex have always been under her control and change major aspects of history to whatever their end goals are.
Bringing back Mercury / Infinite Forest seems to be the most logical step for me as I don’t see the benefit in bringing a whole new Venus and Dreadnaught in the same year especially if Venus is only going to be for a short amount of time. Black Garden also feels a bit too repetitive seeing as how Wish had a major focus on the Black Garden and that’s almost always tied in with Sol Divisive, whereas The Conductor’s Vex all seem to resemble the Mercury styled Vex. I could be totally wrong with all this but that’s my guess as to where we’re going to see. Possibly even the location for the exotic quest so that they can keep the work of the infinite forest around longer after a potential sunsetting of Echoes

I hope that the move away from weekly drip feed results in more consistent plot pacing. Too many of the seasonal stories have big intros and big endings, but the story from week 3 to week 4 to week 5 just feels like the plot is being moved *just* enough to make you care. Season of the Haunted had my favourite storytelling of any season, and part of that is because it was rewarding and engaging the whole way through as we went from crow to zavala to caityl. Here's hoping the lack of a rigid weekly drip feed makes the pacing more natural

  • @SCI-FIGaming

I'm very interested to see how this format works. I personally have grown tired of the weekly drops of content so being able to do it all in one go or at my own pace I think will be good. HOWEVER. I think depending on the narrative of any future episodes stories it may benefit from a weekly system. Going by Byf';s example on a previous video. Season of the splicer and season of the chosen worked well as weekly drops because it fit the narrative of those stories.
It may help to have some episodes drop all at once, some weekly and maybe mix a bit of both. A few weeks worth of content in one go followed by some weekly drops if it fits story wise. That's just me however, either way I'm glad Bungie has payed attention to the feedback so I'm more hopeful for future episodes after heresy.

I would point out that while the devs spoke about releasing the Narrative content for each Act for Episodes Two and Three all at once, I don’t recall them mentioning any planned change to the cadence of Seasonal Challenges in particular.
While we may indeed be able to knock out all the storyline beats for a given Act in the space of a single sitting upon release starting with Episode Two, the possibility (likelihood?) that Challenges continue being released on a weekly basis may lead to further complaints from the “let me do everything at once” crowd.
Of course we’ll have to wait and see how the Challenges are handled alongside the change in Narrative pacing when it is implemented before drawing any firm conclusions.

I appreciate them moving to a model where a whole act is playable right away, but I just hope whatever those episodes get for the first act is far more meaty than what we had for Echoes. Act 1 is basically an interesting opening premise followed by a whole bunch of nothing and then a short mission with a cliffhanger ending to set up the second act where the real meat is, and I'd have been just as disappointed with it playing in one go as I was week to week I think.

I think the best thing about them moving away from weekly seasonal story stuff is that they already started splitting the seasonal content into 3 parts (or acts). I feel like this makes the perfect middle ground between the 2 major viewpoints on how they want to play through the seasonal content. Its still spaced out into 3 parts, but now you also dont have to log in every week to stay up to date. I feel like it opens the window of time where people can do irl stuff, get invested into other games, etc. You don't have to worry about trying to predict which week will have the lore drop, or the exotic quest activates, or whatever else could happen.
I can understand if people just aren't invested in a certain seasonal storyline, or find the missions/activities boring, but I feel like this is the perfect sweet spot for how the seasonal content should be released. If anyone is complaining about it going forward i'd be kinda shocked personally. That or just not really trust that person to give reasonable/valuable feedback on the game lol.

I think that full act story drops on day one of each might not be the answer to the drop cadence, but I’m super interested to see how it goes. Also I’m a bit confused on the whole saint thing. My understanding is that we pulled the real saint out of a section of his time within the vex network, but he thinks he’s a simulation which I’m like 80% confident he can’t be since he can wield the light, which the vex can’t simulate as I recall.

Couple of things... The Vex are channeling radiolaria into Nessus' core... Wouldn't it be something if the Vex are trying to build their own version of a Death Star/War Moon/Unicorn/Megamaid by becoming a giant planetoid unit? After all their bodies are nothing but frames or containers so that wouldn't be out of the questions....
Second as exciting Vex developments are I'm also really excited about the split that's happening in the Eliksni camp. Mithrax and House light is the official good light aligned camp, House Dusk is shaping up to be the rogue sorta light aligned house that probably sees the Echo as a way to get close (in their own way) to the power of the light but carry on being raiders. On the darkness end of the spectrum you got what's left of Salvation and more extreme Fikrul's lot. This is going to make for some killer stories...

I think this is a very welcome and positive change. I think the new episode model of 3 acts dropping at different times is what allows them to make this change in story delivery, the individual story beats dropping at once but with a period between each one so that the remaining 3 months aren’t left without any content. I think it will be a success and I agree that in episode heresay we will see its full potential where the story is carved around this type of delivery. The other thing of cors is their improved response to feedback and increased communication. This new bungie since into the light has transformed the game and I honestly love the game atm. They have renewed my faith in them and I have full confidence in anything wrong or an issue the community has is dealt with moving forward.

It’s probably a lot to ask from bungie but, I’ve always wanted seasons to be like actual dlc campaigns, but also have some weekly updates or some secret mission that happens, and I feel like there should be some times where we do our seasonal stuff but also something else has happened that has nothing to do with the season, maybe the dlc but like some consequence of our actions happen on some random place and it’s like a mini side quest but it comes with some special gear, something secret to keep us interested

Honestly all im waiting for is actual locational changes for nessus, i was fine with act 1 overall, it wasnt crazy and had some fun moments here and there, but the only thing that soured me was going to locations that had changes to their environments in the open world and the places not being changed. Which is very strange considering i walked back to the location where the echo supposedly crash landed and it was still there so changing the location itself is very much possible, im just guessing there hasnt been physical changes in act 1 to solidify that things are still changing with the world and nothing in act 1 really mentioned nessus undergoing changes, it seems that the final mission was the first one that really questions "huh, where did all this radiolaria get drained?" leading into act 2.

Just something to consider but as always, the trailer breakdowns you give are awesome as always, just wishing you had facecam on and you react right when a trailer is about to come out. Take Care Byf and we’ll see you in the next video.
Also, I think Allison mentioned how the echoes isn’t just a memory of the Precursors but other civilizations that were absorbed into it. What are your thoughts on that? Could this echo perhaps not be based on the Precursor civilization but another ancient one? Maybe the first one the Witness visited after its initial creation?

  • @Daniel-wt5bl
    @Daniel-wt5bl 19 дней назад

I don't really think the issue is the weekly delivery of story. I think its more tied to how each week is structured like its, talk to seasonal vendor - go do thing (usually in seasonal activity) - then unique-ish story bit - then back to seasonal vendor. If releasing all the content in one go still follows this cadence between each of the story beats it's still going to be more the same. The structure is too predictable right now, hopefully the way the link the story is switched up.

Doing Season of the Witch in 3 content lumps would be to it's detriment.

I much prefer the story dropping in one lump; however it's delivered I play through it as a priority, so all the weekly gating does is break up the story. It's not like there's a huge duration of story each week either; less than 2 hours, and that's stopping to hear every voice line, not bothering to use an optimised build, and doing all the optional vendor stuff(i.e. sample collection this Episode). It has never been the bulk of the weekly content; that has been the Rituals, Seasonal Activities, repeatable Quests (e.g. Xur's Cipher Quest whose name currently escapes me, but starts with 'Xeno'), rotating Raids/Dungeons/Exotic Missions, and Bounties.

In season of the Splicer Misraaks helps guide us through the Vex network, but the tone of his commentary seems to be more curiosity based, rather than one of reverence - do they not see these ancient machines as sacred beings? I don't feel like I've heard much about their opinion on the Vex species, but maybe I've just missed a bunch of stuff...?

I will say, when Allison was talking about the visions for the story, specifically about how Act 1 was like, as you say, a "lighthearted romp across Nessus with Failsafe and Saint and Osiris and descends into a darker story where Saint is questioning his own personhood," it perked up my ears.
I'm unsure how that part was meant to be interpreted. What I mean is, when Bungie said that, did they mean they just wanted that idea to be their main focus for Act 1, or were they hoping that that general idea would be what we latched onto for ourselves as we played thru Act 1? When they say that, are they talking about their focused vision, or their hopes for our first interpretations?
Because, to me, Act 1 was anything BUT lighthearted. If Bungie was trying to get us to be all like "oohh yay the Witness is dead, we can throw parties for the rest of our lives and bask in the rainbows and sunshine!1!!" then they failed. Going into Act 1 I was just like "well, Witness is dead, but now we've got newer problems on our hands that we can't just blame the Witness for. What the HECK is going on now?" It didn't feel lighthearted, but rather just like one big sigh of "here we go again."
Now, that's not to say I don't like the story, because I do like it. This is just on whether or not Bungie wanted us to get that message of "Act 1 should be lighthearted fun until Saint goes missing then it goes dark," because like I said earlier, I did not feel that way at all. It always felt dark due to the lack of concrete knowledge of anything (besides rumors and such, but that's with everything lol).

I prefer getting the story in one big chunk, but I am scared we will get the: Seasonal activity > story beat > seasonal activity > story beat and so on.
If we get all the story in 1 go, ie Seasonal activity > All story beats and its all done in 30-40 mins, it will still leave a negative sentiment I think.
Episodes were sold as a different way of telling stories, and a way for Bungie to tell bigger stories than seasons allowed. So far Episode 1 has not delivered that. I am cautiously optimistic though. Season 1 was often the weakest of an expansions, so I am hopeful the next two episodes get bigger :D
