  • I may have broken my camera during a rainy night hike on my most recent 2 night backpacking trip.
    After hiking in the rain while filming, the mic would not work, and the video came out a little weird. Will have to see in a few days if I can fix it!
    In the meantime, please enjoy this video. It was a 2 night backpacking trip to Packwood Lake, located Near the Goat Rocks Wilderness in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
    We started the hike Friday night with a night hike with some close friends, and it was awesome to say the least.
    I also recently hit 5,000 subscribers, and wanted to thank each and every one of you who are subscribed to my channel. You motivate me to continue creating content for you to enjoy!
    Please feel free to like and comment, as it would really help support this channel.

    Wow. Those bites were bad. Campsite 1 looked pretty awesome. But campsite 2 was a lot bigger. Those views my friend are incredible. Still seeing snow on mountain tops. Awesome. Enjoyed it. Congrats on 5k. 😃👍👍

      Backpacking With Jason thanks! Yeah campsite 1 was decent, but the site was too small. But camping is always awesome despite the minor setbacks. Thanks for dropping by 🍻

    Great video as always, love watching your stuff! So the black lines are from your lights. A lot of modern lights use pulse width modulation to dim the light. What that does is turn the light on and off rapidly to decrease the brightness. This refresh rate is too fast for our eyes to pick up, but that is what is being picked up by the camera. You can see the flicker if you take one of your lights, turn it on a lower setting and look at it while swinging it around. Hope this helps!

      Nick Farrell Thanks Nick! And thanks for the info on the flicker, that was just the info I was looking for, much appreciated! 🙏. I guess I’ll need to keep that in mind for any future videos using the headlamp .

    As always, great video Edward. I wish I could live further north, but alas, I’m stuck here in Texas in the 100 degree heat with no mountains. Yet I try to get out as often as I can. In case your camera is still broken, perhaps try using silica packets or other dessicants in a zip-lock bag. Using rice to dry out electronics may introduce fine particulates into your camera which you’ll want to avoid. As for bug repellant, use Picaridin instead of DEET. It’s been proven to be just as effective as DEET in many cases and it’s safe for your outdoor gear. DEET often contains distillates which will damage gear or cause them to wear out prematurely. This is often the case with weatherproofing properties of outdoor gear. I wish you the best and congrats on the 5k subscriber milestone! Looking forward to your next video my friend.

      ricecowboy so what kind of outdoor activities do you get to enjoy in your area and environment? I did a backpacking trip in Joshua Tree a while back and it wasn’t too bad ( granted it was not in the 100’s lol).
      Thanks for the tips on the camera and repellent! I did use a bit of picaridin, but it may have not been enough. Camera appears to be working better now, but I may give your suggestion a shot in case I missed anything. Thanks for the awesome feedback, cheers!

      Edward Shin Not much to do except some early morning fishing during the summer in Texas. I prefer to drive to Arkansas or Oklahoma for hiking and camping but it's not quite as scenic as your Pacific NW forests. One of these days I want to hike Whistler BC or Banff. I seem to love comfort and gear too much to go in long hikes. Perhaps one day. 😀

      ricecowboy banff is on my bucket list as well! It’s an amazing looking place from what I can tell in videos and pictures. If you ever do decide to visit the PNW, I got plenty of recommendations for you 👍

    Quick questions regarding the campsite.
    1) are there restrooms, portapotties? If not where and how did you go?
    2) what did you do with your trash? Are there Receptacles or did you pack it back out?
    3) is there Firewood there or did you have to bring it in with you?

    Planning to do this hike in 7 days. Is there anywhere close to the lake to fit 4 1 man tents?

    Damn, you got eaten alive! Was this even though you used mosquito repellent or because you didn't have any? Looks so painful!!!

    • @KrokemOutdoors
      @KrokemOutdoors  6 лет назад

      Art M yeah, I sprayed the Sawyer Picaridin and it still didn’t keep them away. It’s more itchy than painful 🤮

    • @artm6723
      @artm6723 6 лет назад +1

      Yup, that's the good stuff. Sucks that it didn't stop them. It's supposed to be better than DEET.

    • @KrokemOutdoors
      @KrokemOutdoors  6 лет назад +1

      Art M I think it’s because i didn’t reapply after sweating during the hike 😵. Should’ve known better lol
